  1. The "paper talk" I was seeing was suggesting €20m outright or a 1 year loan-to-buy at €12m.  Far more reasonable, particularly the loan-to-buy (as long as still optional after the year).  They Need to shift his wages apparently.

He's really come off the highs of his Ajax days.  He's still a bit of "name" keeper, but is he any good?

  2. This piece suggests (accurately IMO) the opposite, current u23s setup is holding players back for too long.

Think we need to be a lot better about getting more of our young talent the opportunities to step up.  Otherwise it's too small a player pipeline to rely just on the few who, largely through lucky opportunity, can breakthrough directly from our youth games.  Branthwaite is a perfect example; if not for already having a shortage in the position and forced by injuries, it might have been years before we saw him in a "competitive" fixture.

We've had 4 loan moves across our current u23 squad, 2 of those for players now aged 22.  Set more of them the challenge, younger.  Might take them a couple of loans as well.

Definitely want to see Simms loaned out next year, along with a handful of others (if keeping them).  Some of the u18s could/should be looked at soon as well (Onyango in particular).  Although getting more of the u23s out quicker would naturally push up u18 players to fill the void.

Ross Barkley considered himself a striker. Walcott for years at arsenal said he was a center forward.  Yet another reason to trust the manager and not the footballers

There's a quote, a number of posts back, from Carlo saying that; he did well on the left, could be a midfielder, and thinks he'd be good in the #10.  Unsworth has also said he thought he should be a #9.

    Shouldn't forget about Gibson too

Gibson I'm locking in for a Loan away, he does need to be playing week in week out.

Holgate pretty close to the "clear number 1" for mine, although Keane has been impressive lately.  Don't think we're in a position to bring anyone in who's clear levels above what we've got, although do think we still need another true left sided CB.  Gabriel would be that player, although seems likely he doesn't want to be here.

  5. He was impressive.  Impressive enough to change our Summer plans?  Enough to be one of 4 squad CBs, or do we get another in and carry 5 for the year?

He's young enough that he doesn't need to play week in week out, but don't like the idea of no "competitive" football from someone we want to develop.

  6. Yep, agree with @markjazzbassist and @Aidan

Nerves clearly at play.  Work rate/pressing was likely playing it safe and maintaining position - although the pressing was pretty light on from the whole team.

Holgate & DCL are perfect examples of what 1st team game time can do for player development.  Both were written off by plenty early on.

Hope Gordon gets plenty more minutes this year, before a full season loan next year.  Skills and nous are there, needs game time and confidence.

  7. Opportunity missed there, should be 2 points off 5th.

Kean was about early, but there's no real rapport between himself and DCL.  Will take time.

Thought Gordon grew into the game.  Has good feet, knows how to keep the ball, and got into some good areas.

Holgate by far the standout, Pickford also good.  Thought DCL's touch was pretty good today, but service was poor and he got more frustrated than usual.
