  1. Not a patch on the tens of millions killed by Staiin, Mao, Pol Pot, Ceaucescu, and other atheists in the 20th century. Terrorists, dictators, bullies, and other abusers of power come from all backgrounds. It's part of the human condition and therefore pointless blaming it on the faith (or lack thereof) that such abusers claim to follow. Invariably, their claim is simply a convenient vehicle to power.

Check out the ten worst atrocities in human history. Not one of them relates to religion.

Since the 80's and to date a majority of conflicts around the world whether in Europe,Africa or Asia have been fought in the name of religion.

Now I won't pretend to know how many people have died because of the difference in religious ideology, but imo far to many to justify the need to believe religion is needed and makes the world a better place to live.

I'm an atheist and I don't feel there is anything missing in my life because I have no God to answer to or believe in, and I definitely don't believe that being religious makes you a better and more stable person as the last 30 years or so have proven, so I find very difficult to see how religion play's a worthwhile role in society, when it is clear it has become a major source of conflict.

  2. Christian Muslim, Catholic Protestant, Hindu, or Jew, people murder in the name of religion, because they believe it legitimises their actions.

I personally believe in no God or religion, but try to live my life treating people how I would like to be treated, no need for a bible or the Koran to tell you how to be a good person, but they come in handy if you want to have conflict with someone with different religious views from yourself.

I'll be honest... if someone did something to create the utmost anger in me - my Roman Catholic upbringing and beliefs would be the strongest persuasion there is for not seriously harming that person.

I don't believe in killing- Simple as that.

Religion isn't the biggest cause of wars IMO.... it's desire for greed, wealth and passion. Religion can be a very powerful method of collecting and uniting people to a common cause.

There is no doubt in my mind that Christian occupation of Muslim countries over the past century has caused a lot of what we are seeing. That isn't because of religion.... it's merely the fact that the religion has been used as a common denominator and hugely used by Islamist terrorists in getting people to fight.

We should never have been involved in half the shit we were. The yanks have been at it for a long time with their support of Israel... innocent people getting blown up in the middle east long before it came on our shores.

The only solution to this is to get together with Muslim leaders - to even discuss matters with the senior terrorist leaders. Find out what exactly it is they want to achieve. Because continuing the bombing etc... offering death to them is what they want... martyrdom.

The western world has done a very good job in providing young impressionable jihadists the excuses they need to be radicalized.

It's all very well Mr Blair making catastrophic decisions that costs young soldiers and hundreds of thousands of civilians their lives... he's hardly exposed to any risk is he?

Catholics have been killing in the name of religion for hundreds of years and still are, the truth is religion has been the reason for many conflicts round the world.

The reason being religion makes you different from someone who doesn't share your religious views and values, whether right or wrong this has caused more conflict and killing, than if there was no religion.

  3. Poles are suggesting that Tory lead is getting smaller daily, now they are disagreeing on whether they will increase income tax or not, they have scored so many home goals they have become a joke and only hardened Tories will surely vote for them now.

May could go down in history for losing what was believed to be a dead cert victory, let's hope so anyway.

  4. Can't vote because I won't be in in the country and election was called to late for me to get a postal vote in time. No big deal because of living in a seriously safe Tory seat (otherwise I might have flown home for the day) but good luck guys, do the business for me

Appreciate we have a few Conservative members on TT and I respect their view however misguided it may be.

Final thought? Smash the ignorant, arrogant and obnoxious bitch please, vote tactically if you have to even if it goes against the grain. Realise that if you're voting Tory you're just toeing the Sun/Mail/Express/Telegraph/Murdoch etc agenda and screwing the poor for your own personal/imagined/quasi national interests.

    Have a nice day :).

So do I live in Tory stronghold, considering barricades at the polling station, that should stop the bankers.
  5. Also a lot of the "English" accents are actually American actors doing an English accent, which is usually half English half Australian. Truth be told I can barely tell the difference. I can't tell the difference between an Indian accent and Pakistani one either, maybe you English can since they used to be part of the empire.

Tell you what. Some brits can nail the American accent, idris Elba in the wire I thought he was from Baltimore I saw him on a talk show and thought how in the hell? I thought he was joking until I looked it up. Hell of an actor there.

To be honest Mark if an Indian and a Pakistani had a conversation with me I wouldn't have a clue which was which based solely on their accents, can you tell the difference from all of the American accents from the Canadian accent, if someone from Seattle spoke to me they may as well come from Vancouver to me they would sound the same.

  7. When I'm abroad and get asked by someone where I come from, usually Americans because they seem to think with my accent that I'm Australian, which is understandable because most of English dialogue they hear from this country on their televisions, is what I call the newsreaders accent.

Anyway when I'm asked I never refer to myself as coming from the UK or being British, I always say I'm from England or I'm English, in all fairness Britain isn't United there are probably just as many people in the four countries that make up the UK who want independence for their country from the union, so I'm not proud to be British but I am to be English.

  8. I do think that's overstating it - by a flying mile, actually!

My earlier point is that, if the percentage of Christian police officers attending church is comparable to the number of Muslim police officers attending mosque, then it's misleading to suggest that the police officers attending mosque are there under cover while police officers attending church are not. If the percentage of police officers attending mosque is less than the percentage of Muslims in society, this means one of three things: (i) they are less religious; (ii) they cannot be trusted; (iii) the police force doesn't recruit enough Muslim officers. Which scenario do you think is true?

WTF it's not the Krypton Factor, it's about innocent people being killed by radicalised extremist, to believe that how many police officers attend church or a mosque will have a bearing on this, is pure fantasy you could close every mosque in the country and you would still have the same amount of radicals wanting to kill.

And if the solution was as easy as making police officers attend mosques undercover or otherwise don't you think that would have been happening years ago.

What we have to do is stop giving the hate campaigners the ammunition to preach their vile rhetoric to the gullible followers, and we can start by keeping out of war's that are of no concern to us, because this has led us to where we are today.

  9. New to the Toffees and this forum. I'm from Roanoke, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains (hence the user name).

I've followed several teams over the last few years and never found a real fit. I continually made the mistake of imposing terms on finding a club. It had to have a cool name, or it had to be from a town my English ancestors emigrated from. Guess what? It never worked.

In the end, I had to let the club find me. I had to be open and receptive. Granted, I'm still at that stage when everything looks perfect (from 3000 miles away), but I am here nevertheless and eager to read your opinions.

Hope you stick around Blue Ridge and settle in,you've definitely made the right choice this time.

Love the fact that you come from Virginia, I have a real interest in the civil war, you Virginians played a huge role in that campaign and I'd love to visit your state to get a feel of its history.

  10. Great summing up there, my only other concern at the moment is (and i know it is still early days) the players we are being linked with so far are absolute dross, we really need to raise the bar a bit more if we are going to break the top 6 imo.

With the players he's brought in so far, average for me.
  11. G'day all,

My name is Ryan. Followed the forum for a while, mainly through the transfer rumour pages. Big few months coming up so I thought I'd join fully and get involved.

    Cheers

Welcome mate good to have you on board.

Like some of the others I keep away from the transfer rumours stuff, to be honest I haven't heard of most of the players they post, I swear there just made up names.

  12. I'm beginning to think that a Labour Lib Dem coalition could be the best way forward, if the Tories win by a landslide then everyone who voted for them deserve the massive amount of shit coming there way.

In the same way as Americans who voted for Trump I have no sympathy for them, they voted for a cock and they got a cock, so if you vote for May your voting for a liar and someone with no conviction in her believes, who changes more than the weather.

  13. I was at the game surrounded by gooners we where that shite, they weren't taking the mick they were fucking feeling sorry for me, which is a whined up the thing I and them twats found out pretty quickly is that Koeman hasn't tactically got a fucking clue, his decisions where at best inept.

  14. We'll get a full refund on the flights in 5/7 working days according to easyJet.

The extra costs are really just losing the car park payment (£90) although I suppose we could claim for four days accommodation payment when we won't be there (€140).

Not likely to be covered for the extra expenses of travel to Gatwick/parking/higher flight cost I wouldn't have thought because we've chosen to do that. I'll look at the policy when we get back.

Some airlines apparently didn't cancel so flew out OK today. Decision is a gamble by the airline though because if eJ hadn't cancelled and the strike had gone ahead they'd have had an airport full of irate customers this morning. They made the wrong decision but I can understand why, same as I can understand the proposed strike (which was due to the latest raft of austerity measures being debated in the Greek parliament today). Live and learn eh?

Fortunately we were due to go for four weeks so we'll still get twenty-four days, feel more sorry for those just booked for a week or two.

I feel more sorry for the Greeks they could do with the lost revenue. Lol
  15. false, no one can out him because his party have majority in both House and Senate. Be like May being the same but the tories have a majority all by themselves over 66%, nothing the other people can do.

My point is more that no one has the bollocks to go head to head with him, if any politician had done or said the things he has in this country they would be publicly slaughtered, he gets worse by the weeks because no one or body has the bollocks to confront him.
