Yesterday wasn’t his best game, but he did assist in Richarlison goal with the headed flick on, and scored one himself, by being in the right place, something we were all critical about until recently, he positioning has improved immensely, assisted by the formation we’re now playing. MOTD talked up the developing relationship between Dom and Richy last night. What I’ve always been impressed by is his effort and how he puts himself about, which he did again yesterday, there was one instance late on after he missed a chance to score, and rather than letting his head drop, he was chasing defenders down and won the ball back, it’s that sort of play that gets Goodison rocking imo. After the final whistle there was a tiny pitch invader, looked to be about 2-3 years old, ran onto the pitch up to Dom, with two stewards chasing, and asked for his shirt. Dom talked to him for a bit then gave him his shirt, a lovely touch, I hope the little un doesn’t get a life ban!

Defensively he was good, but on a number of occasions, he won the ball then dribbled himself back in to trouble when there were earlier pass options available. As a side note Having seen Zaha yesterday I’m very glad we didn’t get him, he won a few dribbles but didn’t have anything productive on past the defenders.

Most players seemed to have upped their performances, but the main improvement is our game tactics, today we put tackles that were fouls in areas which stopped them progressing but didn’t bring cards, and players prevented quick free kicks from being taken by getting in the way.

Much improved performance recently, but I still can’t forgive him lying on the ground when Jones scores in FA cup, and he still has a tendency to pass backward to much.

Morgan, something I never thought I would say, few errors but generally our best. Ricky and DCL kept their defence busy and both got their rewards.

Thought I’d try and get the goalkeeper discussion on here, not Richarlison page! Pickford is a good keeper with a few areas for improvement, no one is perfect of course, he’s a great shot and penalty stopper, needs to improve on command of area, kicking and controlling his head. For me he is a good as we could hope for at the moment, with room for improvement, if that doesn’t happen under Carlo in the next season or two then changes will be made, let’s see how Ryan, Dubravka, Guita and Schmichael do over the same period.

Richy, Siggy and Iwobi reported back available, will be interesting to see who Carlo puts out. Whoever it is we need to come out of the blocks fast and put them on the back foot, if we do turn up then it’s 3 points to us.

Not overly disappointed that we haven’t signed anyone, more do that we have only moved Tosun out on loan, would have liked to see Nissan, Martina as a minimum moved on and bring in some of the U23’s for the rest of the season.

My first game at Goodison was Chelsea in the main stand aged 10 in 1970 5-0, clearly remember someone shouting “come on Everton you haven’t scored for 5 minutes” Fell out of love with football late 70s early 80s due to the violence etc, fully back on board mid 80s and ever since, lucky to have got season tickets 3 years ago for me and my 15yr old son.
