  1. I'm thinking the calculations are "as the crow flies".
  2. Seems to work OK. Shitty Maghull is 5.25 away from Goodison, and 5.81 from our previous home Anfield. Furthest English club Plymouth Argyle at 221 miles, will expect to get them in the one of the cups then.

You cant really put him on the bench because of all the work he puts in. Who else is going to chase everything and everyone down? Granted AJ is never going to be remembered as one of our greatest forwards, he's never going to get a shed full of goals BUT there is a hell of a lot more to his game than scoring. Theres some other thread where some fans are expecting AJ to get 15-20 goals this season. I think thats a tad optimistic. If he gets close to 10 but still puts in as much effort every week then I'll be happy (just as long as someone else is banging them in).
  4. Being Negative (or more acurately REALISTIC) is part and parcel of being an Evertonian. I could turn your statement around and say “you are so positive that I wonder whether you are a true Evertonian” As a child I was always OPTIMISTIC, as an adult I’ve become more REALISTIC and if my Dad is anything to go by I will become NEGATIVE in my old age. Perhaps you are young and in an optimistic stage, if so then I’m sorry to tell you are more than likely to become more negative as you get older.
  5. Nice!! 20 goals for AJ this season would be a bloody miracle (hope I'm wrong though).
  6. In defence of Gravesen in his first spell, we werent the most confident of teams and everything used to go through Gravesen, the policy seemed to be "if in doubt give the ball to Tommy" so its not surprising he made his fair share of mistakes really. He played well yesterday, lets hope (as you say) he does it consistently.

Totally agree with you but have a look at the match review on sportinglife. I think they were watching a different game or perhaps was written by a Bolton fan. http://www.sportinglife.com/football/live/...CER_Bolton.html No-one played garbage today. AJ is no genuine centre forward but I love him for all his running. Great work for the first goal. Is it any wonder Diouf is hated. He was flying through the air before Carsley was even near him. Credit to the ref for seeing it like it was.
  8. AND...with Gravesen in midfield actually looking for the ball perhaps Hibbert will have someone to pass to, so his distribution might actually improve (I'm not holding my breath about this but it is possible).
  9. AS expected there are some blues that are not happy with Gravesen coming back, even when he was doing well for us there were fans who thought he was useless. I do hope he is used sparingly though, as the team we have at the moment should get better with time and experience. One thing I will say for Gravesen is that he is confident on the ball and I think will provide Arteta with more time and space to work his magic.
  10. Each to their own with regard to taste in music but nice to see someone here with similar taste to myself. Saw The Editors live recently and was blown away!
  11. Have to say I agree with just about all thats been said on this thread but on the subject of not jumping for headers, now I know AJ is small (and I love him for his running and effort) but he is the worst Ive seen when it comes to jumping for headers. He reminds me of some kids at primary school when the goalie kicked the ball out high and they would make a pretend effort to jump for the ball knowing very well that they misjudged it to avoid getting a headache. Vic is a bit ordinary but will be useful coming off the bench, at least until Vaughan comes back.
  12. I'm glad we sorted that out. Yakubu should be a great signing. BUT He said ""I chose to go to Middlesbrough because they were in Europe. At the moment they are not doing it" Does that mean if we fail to qualify for Europe come May then he'll want out???
  13. Not for 6 mill. Perhaps if Preston only wanted 4 mill Moyes wouldve taken him. At 4 million its worth it, what I saw of him last season he looked a decent player (despite his funny baby steps running style). SURELY after a couple of seasons (given the inflation rate of English players) his value would go up. Look at him in the same way as a bit of Real Estate. Theres profit to be had there.
  14. Would be happy if we got him for 4million quid but can you see pompey letting him go at a loss?? Does anyone know the deal regarding what Pompey paid Preston??? ie. Was it a certain initial outlay plus an extra whatever based on appearances? If so then I think we could get him for whatever the outlay was. he'll have to be content with warming the bench quite a lot though.
  15. There is an excellent article on toffeweb about the religion issue (or non-issue) http://www.toffeeweb.com/fans/beingblue/religion.asp An EXTRACT: "There appears to be little real evidence to suggest any strong relationship between support of Everton and adherence to either the Catholic or Protestant faiths. Parental family ties appear to have been much stronger, with many current Evertonians citing fathers or grandfathers (of either religion) who were true blue, through and through". It appears that in the 1890's a catholic Doctor joined the Everton board so started a trend of Catholics who chose to support Everton back then. And in the 1950's we had a few Irish players so drew a bit of an irish crowd (but we have also had orange men before that and ofcourse untold Protestants on the board in the early days). So it appears that Catholics have made dubious links with Everton and clung to them. In reality we have no allegiance to either Catholic or Protestant. ABOVE ALL ELSE, We have faith in EVERTON FC.
  16. Just because Moyes said Beattie would do a good job for England and Beattie himself said he was doing all he can to get into the England team at the time doesnt mean he was EVER going to make it. There were others way above Beattie in the pecking order. Full marks for his attitude though.
  17. Officially youre SEVENTEEN AND THREE QUARTERS (why isnt there a Jealous smilie?).
  18. Yes thats where it all started but if you read my post before getting upset over the "idiot" comment you would see that St. Domingos Church was Methodist. ie an offspin of Protestantism SO that blows your catholic theory out the window. To answer your Q; "Why not bring religion into football". ANSWER: Look at Glasgow, hardly healthy is it. Religion causes problems (not just in football either). Apologies for upsetting you by the"idiot" thing. The other day I suggested Kirkby was preferable to Speke and for that got called a cheeky twit!! And I didnt fly off the handle.
  19. Dont know if he wore No. 9 shirt and he wasnt our worst but Mike Newell frustrated the hell out of me. Thought he was garbage.
  20. YOU ARE AN IDIOT!! Everton is NOT a catholic side. Religion plays no part in football in this city AND Thank God (or whoever) for that. Catholics, Protestants and Atheists for that matter support BOTH EFC and LFC. EVERTON started out as ST.DOMINGOs A METHODIST CHURCH team, and Methodism is a form of Protestantism. So HOW ON EARTH can you claim Everton have always been a catholic side. You are obviously a catholic looking for a connection. There isnt one. Religion and football dont mix. By all means believe what you want, your faith is your choice BUT dont bring it to the ground with you. You want to be religious? Then go to church.
  21. Lots of ordinary performances v Blackburn. Most notably Phil Neville (how he didnt get a yellow card is a mystery), Hibbert, AJ, McFadden (suppose he made up for it in the last 15 minutes). Too many to name really. Baines, Lescott, Jags were the few positives for me. Arteta showed his class towards the end too. Really need our new signings soon, AJ dont look like a proper centre forward to me. Cant wait to see what Yakubu does.
  22. A protest is pointless. People who didnt vote CHOSE not to and thats that! The LOOP idea certainly put a spanner in the works. Imagine what the result wouldve been if that hadnt have popped up. 70% YES?? 75% perhaps??
  23. SIMPLY, Speke is further away from Goodison (and our main supporter base) than Kirkby. That’s all. Oh, and I hear you are a bunch of foul mouthed yobs but I cant imagine where that rumour came from
  24. THOSE that didnt cast a vote were probably undecided about whether to move to Kirkby or not, OR perhaps they were happy whichever way the vote went knowing that they would follow Everton no matter what. so dont assume that they wasted their vote. So Kirkby it is. Look on the bright side, at least its not Speke.
