Totally agree, we can't even begin to judge Ancelotti this year. Totally unfair to make any calls on his performance to date.
He arrive in December to a frantic Xmas period - all preping and recovering for games - very little proper training time with the players. Brands an Ancelotti did the exact right thing in January - no panic buys and thus more ill spent transfer funds!!! So good call on this.
Then we come to March and lockdown and no proper player contact or training sessions for around 3 months. Then in July back to restricted training sessions and frantic game turnaround again.
Last few weeks players been on holiday break.
So since his arrival it been frantic game after game, little to no contact, frantic game after game. There has been few opportunities for prolonged periods of in depth training sessions.
In the 8-9 months that Ancelotti has been at the club, how much quality management, training and coaching has he and is team been really able to do?
There is now going to be very little pre-season before the start of the coming season, so in all honesty - even when it comes to his 12 month anniversary  with the club it will have been the one of the strangest and most testing 12 months that there has ever been in all walks of life and not just football.
With Brands I actually like the general philosophy of player purchasing - there will always be duds in transfer dealings, but generally we are moving deadwood out the door and bringing in younger players to the club. But it is going to need 4-5 seasons of averaging to see how this philosophy really pans out. Patience really is needed, probably this coming season more than ever.

I think this job has to be Ancellotti's biggest challenge.  To turn a mediocre team into a good team and then in to a very good or even a great team!!!  That's pretty much his remit.
I think he has inherited almost the worst type of squad you can get (bar a couple of exceptions) - to many players who are being overpaid in comparison to their ability, manyw have little genuine hunger to prove themselves - they have the massive contracts (that they would not be getting elsewhere), they are not really good enough to be playing in better teams, so happily coasting at been 'ordinary' and average or worse!!. Many have  more than hit their ceiling when we signed them up on big money contracts!!!!
I think it is that little bit more difficult to rebuild when we are going to be kind of stuck with a lot of the players on good money and who will not get a better offer than what they have at Everton  - Gyli,  Bolaise, Tosun, Bernard, Walcott, Gomes, Pickford , Iwobi, MIna, Rameriez, Besic.  That's 11 recent signing I would quite happily see being replaced, but that will not be easy, they will not want to go, and other teams will not want to pay much for them or match their current wages. So as said, the worst type of squad for a rebuild.
I hope Ancellotti IS able to get a lot more out of the player we already have at the club, but they are not in the bracket of the player he has had to work with in the past - those players had genuine quality - so his job was to get it out of them on a consistent basis. I am not sure the players listed are genuine quality - the are able to do some things well, but flatter to deceive in all honesty.  Not even Ancellotti can make silk purses out of sow's ears.
I personally don't think this is going to be turned around that quickly (without a bottomless pit of money in order to just take the hit on what we already have), this is going to take 2-3 more seasons to sort out (this COVID business is not going to help at the moment either). I hope this time around we give the manager the time needed - this manager is proven at the top level (which is what we are aspiring for), unlike the last few we have had. It was right to sack those as swiftly as we did, but they where questionable signings in the first place.

Already said that I think Buendia would be a good signing for us - When you couple tackling stats along with is attacking stats for a 23 year old in a poor Norwich team, it's pretty impressive. He is now English football and Premiership proven. Not going to be silly wages, so a pretty low risk signing at his age. Stats far better than what we have.

I agree have to work on the basis he is not going to be the answer in midfield at this moment in time, he is not premiership proven yet and bad run of injuries is only going to make the risk of him not being prem standard slightly greater.  So we have to bring another in decent defensive midfielder on the assumption he will not cut the mustard.
If as we all hope, in 6-9 months time Gbamin comes back strong and begins to push for a starting place it has to be considered a massive bonus. Finger cross for the lad as this was a big move for him.

Really unlucky for him to have such serious back to back injuries and still gonna be out for sometime. His positions is just the area of the park we have been lacking in as well this season. He would have been and important cog in the wheel once he had some premiership experience.  We are obviously going be getting reinforcements for this position this summer- so you have to wonder has his big chance  gone to make the position his own, if others come in.  You would hope who ever comes in will be pretty settled in the position by the beginning of 2021. So Gabmin may find his chances of starts more limited than he would have 12 months ago. A bit of competition wouldn't go a miss so really hope he does come back strong.

We are currently living in very strange times, fucking with lots of people's heads. Football players will be no different. Its going to continue, it will be a stranger transfer market and a 20/21 season. I personally don't see stadiums being filled with crowds of people for at least 12months. This thing isn't going to go away quietly. For any transfers this summer, a bit of extra patience is going to be needed. Would you fancy uping sticks (with your family) and going to live in a hotel in a foreign country at the moment? away from all your friends and extended family. I have to work away on Monday night and  need to stay in a hotel, the paperwork and company risk assessments I have had to do is quite unbelievable.
Think we will also need to be a bit careful harshly judging over the 20/21 as well. Timing sucks, as first time we have a managers of Ancelloties calibre at the club. Like everybody else, 3month after his arrival he is kind of having to working with one arm be his back. So not the best for him to come to do a rebuild of the club. His first 18months at the club will be under very difficult circumstances.

A lot of our player have struggled since the restart. European football was only an outside chance and I think most player have come back with a 'Whats the point' kind of attitude. As an Everton fan, if I am honest, I already had this season as 'done with' in my head and wasn't overly bothered if it actually started again or was wrote off. I have more of an eye on next season - how did others feel? Overly bothered about a restart.?
Now as pros being paid to play, this should not happen and players should be giving their all week in week out, but human nature doesn't work that way.
