The 16 year old Wayne Rooney was a better Wayne Rooney than he is now.
Disagree all you like, not sure if you recall the 16/17year old Rooney. Took defenders on, played defence splitting passes, raw and dominant.

If you don't take it from me take it from Ivan Campo, after being bullied by him in a Christmas fixture for Bolton in 2002 he stated he was as good as any player he had faced. Having played at the highest level he had a good idea.

Rooney in the Jupiter league FFS?!, give your head a wobble. It's a poor standard d league, anderlecht piss it most years and they aren't much kop

You guys are making it sound like a 16 year Wayne Rooney is better than any striker that has ever played in the Jupiler league. To my knowledge, no striker has ever bagged in 50 goals in the Jupiler league.

All I can do is shake my head and disagree.

Hang on... You want him to score more whilst linking up play? Want him to part the Red Sea too?

And again, fuck the price tag! If you're expectations are purely based on on a price tag, its pointless debating with you and honestly I expect better. The price tag has no relation to the players ability!!! How many times?!

Surely you're joking. You're not giving Anderlect -- or that league -- enough credit.

Or maybe Wayne Rooney waaay too much.

33 of those goals were scored in the belgian Jupiter league, a sub standard league. Compared to the likes of aguero who scored his playing for inependiente in Argentina and athletico in la liga?

I was being pedantic highlighting what a load of shite that early bird picture is. Every time I see it I cringe. There really is no comparison between Rom and those other players.

As I've stated before, put a 16 year old Wayne Rooney up front for anderlecht and he would get 50+ goals.

If you can put messi, tevez Rooney etc as 16 year olds playing in the Jupiter league then we can have a fair comparison.

Simply put. You stick messi, Rooney, Owen, shearer as 16 year olds playingup front for anderlecht and its like fishing with dynamite. Rooney at 16 playing for anderlecht would have got 50 goals in a season. I am not kidding.

But £24m for Soldado looks like a joke. £35m for Andy Carroll looks like a joke. £33m for Robinho looks like a joke. Even players with incredible records, may cost you millions (Torres - £50m, Schevchenko £30m) and even that's not a guarantee of how a player will perform at the new club. Those two were absolute dead certs to carry on their credentials. It just so happened not to. They were finished articles and flopped. We have an unfinished one, who's heavily critisised.

Until you pay it, how do you know if they're worth the money?

Suarez did well in Holland, not that brilliant, he became a MUCH better player at Liverpool. Without doubt. He was worth (£23m) that, back then. Alfonso Alves came from Holland, scored a goal a game....turned out he just liked pies too much.

There is nobody, not that would have any resale value anyway which is absolutely a must when a club like us pisses 28 million up the wall (not up front but still)

People were mentioning Wellbeck, after a semi decent side he's done absolutely fuck all for a much more free scoring team than us with much better players around, Bony maybe but no resale from him and he was only as proven as Lukaku was. CharlieAustin, Ings? Nobody else would probably ofcome on our wages to us I don't think.

Lukaku will come good I have no doubt about that. We will also get our money back off him regardless of how he does.

His price must have dropped this season, same as Ross.
We need to keep him and give him chance to fulfill his own potential and belief.

He really believes he cam be big, so just maybe he can be.

I take it as representative of the opinions of the people on here, because it is. It's not gospel because opinions aren't "gospel" by definition.

How does that have anything to do with how the team play on the pitch? We're reacting to it, not dictating it .

    Don't understand your point.

Seasons where we had extra games when we qualified for Europe.
    05-06 top scorer Beattie 11
    07-08 top scorer Yakubu 21
08-09 top scorer Cahill, Fellaini 9
    09-10 top scorer Saha 15

You can poo poo it all you want mate but his stats don't lie.

    12-13 played 38, scored 17
    13-14 played 33, scored 16
    14-15 played 41, scored 18

That's 34 in 74 for Everton. Strike rate of 2.17 in an Everton shirt.

18 goals in 41 games this season is a great achievement in any side, let alone a side playing as shite as we have.

Yes, stats can be misleading, but there's only one stat that counts in football, goals. He scores them. You don't like him, and probably never will, but it's your opinion, and like a hole in our arses, we all have one.

    http://toffeeweb.com/history/players/goalscorers.php
Here are stats on our top goal scorers season by season, and during my footballing life we've not had many strikers to believe in, I've got one now.
i'll try not to get involved in this anymore. To be honest there are too many threads that have descended into this argument, it needs to stay in this thread.

    You should be already IMO

You stated categorically at the start of the season that he would not improve and what we saw then was the finished article. Over time you have since back tracked and said it was his touch that would never improve and now you have begrudgingly conceded that it in fact has improved

Yes he has had some really poor performances this season but that is a reflection of how the entire team has performed and the style of play and you don't seem to want to acknowledge that. As soon as we started going a bit more direct Lukaku has come to life and started banging the goals in, that's no coincidence

The lad is still young and still developing as a player. I can remember Graham Sharp at the same age when he came down from Dumbarton and he didn't have half of the potential Lukaku has and he didn't turn out too badly. He learnt a lot from Andy Gray and his game developed ten fold. I firmly believe Lukaku can do the same from Ferguson

I did and I didn't want him. I had big reservations about his ability as a player. I stated I wanted bony and wellbeck ahead of him. We could have had bony for 20m, wellbeck 13m.

No, second season syndrome, players having poor seasons, and world cup lag all contributed.

Being new to the forum I have looked at this thread with great interest.
Everyone has some very valid arguments about Lukaku and we are all entitled to our opinions.
As long as he is an Everton player I will back him 100%.
There may be times when I am absolutely pissed about his performances, offsides being a prime example but I believe that we have a decent striker in our team.
I hate the tag World Class being bandied around for players, how many genuine world class players are there...... Messi, Ronaldo, Neuer etc.
The Premiership is exciting but there are very few of these "World Class" players operating in it....Hazard, Silva, Toure, Aguero ?.
My point is that we could never afford one of these types of player so we have to make do.
28 million was a lot of money for Everton to spend on one player but after his loan spell I like many other fans, was quite excited about his signing.
Ok this season he hasn't hit the heights of last, but neither have the team.
When the team has played well Lukaku has generally done so too.
He has missed opportunities but at least he is in there to miss them, and we haven't had too many strikers doing that over the years.

He's got 22 goals in 54 appearances for us and even before you consider how shite the service in to him has been this season that is a pretty impressive strike rate

No first touch though so we should get rid and bring Vellios back

The Argentina league is far superior, absolutely no question. The defenders are so much stronger and physical. There is no comparison.

Either way, not arsed with carrying this on. If the stats that were posted on that rosta were relevant and critical in assessing a players ability then Alan Shearer should have been crap.

Rom is ours now, people can't take the piss out of us, we have stumped up a large wad of cash, let's enjoy watching him justify it.

You don't know a thing about the JPL do you

The JPL has brought forth much more impressive defenders than the Argentinean primera division. Eliaquim Mangala, Vincent Kompany, Dante, Daniel Van Buyten, Lombaerts to name a few that are currently active, all came from the JPL. Some interesting prodigies: Cheikhou Kouyaté, just transferred to West Ham from Anderlecht, very promising. Costa Rica's best defender during the World Cup: Duarte? Plays at Club Brugge. And then I'm leaving out Vertonghen, Vermaelen and Alderweireld, cause they didn't see first team action in Belgium before going to the Netherlands.

Look, I didn't want to do another "my daddy is stronger than your daddy" competition and I can appreciate that you prefer the argentina competition. But when you say nonsense like "the Argentina league is far superior", then that's just the same old filth surfacing again and doesn't belong on a forum where we respect one another.

What was everyone panicking for? New he'd sign

In all seriousness though I don't get this "28 million yokes" line of thinking. He's easily worth that IN TODAYS MARKET. Obviously no player is worth that money but in todays market... Lallana 25, Loven 20, Shaw 32 need I go on? 28 million for a /1 year old proven premier league striker is not too much money in todays market. He'll be worth close to double that in 4 years.

Excellent piece of business from the club. Hat tipped to all involved
