  1. Let me just check if I'm right here Steve... You originate from Cornwall. You live in America (this is the bit I'm unsure of...from previous posts, I have you as living there? Some language used in posts indicates this too???) And you want Scotland to become independent based purely on some secret hope of a reunion of Celtic nations from thousands of years ago? Didn't the Celtic language spread right across Europe at one point? But it just 'died' out? You clearly know much more than me on this subject. I'm all for tradition. We need tradition. But using history in such a way, a way that causes a bit of hatred, is wrong. I appreciate your passion for your long gone roots...but the world's moved on. And will do so again and again.

Really looking forward to this game. Well, at least, the return to Europe. Was really tempted to buy a ticket, and whack the cost plus all petrol on credit card...but the plastic has taken a battering this last month!!! The atmosphere should be belting. While I think some europa games will see fringe players given a chance...I don't think this will be one of those games. Strong line up to play a strong team.
  4. ....actually, we already have 800,000 scots living in England (such a bad country aren't we??!!). I wonder if it's YES, how many of the NO will express their fears by crossing the border. Some reports suggest up to a 6th of the 5.3million population. And we complain about Muslims....!!!! (That's tongue in cheek before anyone kicks off!!!)
  5. How are they different in so many ways? I'm married to a Glaswegian, and enjoy it when we spend time in Glasgow. Last time I spoke to my wife, she spoke the same language as me??? We got married in April and had lots of her family down, they also spoke the same language. All my 'plastic scouse' family were there...They all inter mingled brilliantly and had a brill weekend. Behind all the banter (usually sports related!), generally, both Scots and English are fine. The only bias is the BBC. Avoid that at all costs on any subject. All this history...Christ, the time is now. If they are still angry because William Wallace got hung, drawn and quartered...well, that's sad. We English can't forever be the bad guys just because thousands of years ago we dared to venture and take ownership of land...in an era when every civilisation was doing the same! I'll stop there with that one as I am in danger of going over my own head!!! Ha! We are what we are. As a United Kingdom, has it done us any harm? We have many privileges that other nations envy. Fair enough, each country should have much more influence on what happens in their own land. But all this anti England stuff is dated. It's old news. For the UKs size, we are a big player in the world (for right or wrong reasons). Would we be if we were all separate? I fear that if it is Yes, it will be because of bravado and misplaced pride. Yet will also mean some very uncertain, and hard, years for the Scots. They don't deserve that. BUT...If it is yes, then good luck. Hope it goes well...because you just know that if it doesn't go well they'll only jump over the border into England.
  6. 65% No....35% Yes. The silent ones will speak, and they are silent because they are 'No'. I really hope that the famous Scottish pride can be swallowed a little and that common sense can prevail. I find it hard to believe that they are having a vote with so many unanswered questions. I also find it difficult that 16 year old can vote. Most of these can't make beans on toast, yet they can take part in this vote? C'mon, that's shocking. The big swinger for me will be that while the Scots dislike the Westminster decision making (can't blame them really...even Northerners don't like that!), at least they know where they are. Go independent, and it's all up in the air. Currency for example...the most important thing for a country is currency. It's strength on a global scale can make or break a nation. The scots don't know what they are going to use. Yet they may vote 'yes'? Oil/Gas...its ok saying you have it and that is what will support the economy. But how do you know what value is on it? You become independent, the world knows you are relying in this resource to make your country work, you don't think the extracting companies are going to be real mean in negotiating prices etc? If they decide not to extract, and go elsewhere, you're screwed. Most of the fuel extracted is used in the UK. What if Westminster decide it's cheaper to import it from elsewhere? Politics can make that happen. Politics is the biggest Bitch in the history of mankind. All nations go into debt. They need money from banks etc to keep the nation going. As a new independent country, they won't have a credit rating, will be seen as very high risk and will find it difficult to borrow money. When they do borrow, the interest will be a lot higher than the UK pays. Could go on...so many ifs and buts. I wouldn't like to be a Scot just now. Not a chance!
  7. I'm not getting overly excited just yet. Not after the waterfront and tesco shambles. It's good we are still hunting. And I would love this to come off. But no plans, drawings, models, surveys...finance!!! Forget this one until something more concrete comes out.
  8. Not many in the team have set the world alight so far this season, so to continously hone in on one player seems unjust. Especially if the basis is his speculated price tag. He ain't been our worst player. No where near. If you don't like something about someone, then you need real strong self control to not continously notice that something. So for Lukaku, his every miscontrol will be noted, while his good points will be missed, such as hitting the bar. It might be subconscious, it might be deliberate.

I think it's unjust just to look at his Wigan record. You do have to also take into account his Swansea record for it to be a balanced argument. I thought his record at Swansea must have been sound as he took them to another level and is credited for their footballing philosophy. So thanks Bailey for digging it out!!!
  10. Holloway is funny as fuck though eh? Seriously though... Big respect for saying you'd be a better person, Brett. You know, when I first heard his interviews for Everton I was inspired. The way he talks, the way he puts his views across, his knowledge, calm explanations. I've tried to take bits of him into my own management/leadership style. Its hard though, because by nature us English are pretty shit at the positive outlook stuff. I think he's brill. Ok, so the use of 'phenomenal' and 'unique' may be over zealous, but it's no more annoying than the constant use of the word 'mate'.
  11. Have you got anything to show where those convictions come from? Not sure what...I dunno, touches, heat maps, clips, comparisons vs last season? You might be dead right if you can back it up.
  12. This picking him apart at interviews is daft. What's the point? Look at him when we concede or do something wrong on the pitch...His look if frustration is there for all to see. I noticed in his interview that he seemed more downbeat after the Chelsea game. His tone of voice was slighly lighter, his eyes not as wide open and his mouth a bit more down turned. He wasn't himself, definitely disappointed. You can still speak using real positive words, but your face gives away your true feelings.
  13. I think he's done alright so far. Especially considering he is carrying an injury to quite an important part of a footballers body! He's been unlucky not to score, it's not through lack of effort. His touch for me has been 50/50...at times fine, at times a bit dodgy. He needs to maintain composure when he has the opportunity to lead an attack or set up a quick attack. He seems to try to rush it a bit and lose composure and therefore the ball. His price tag seems to weigh on people's mind. Maybe his too. He's definitely in the spot light. But 28 mill ain't the 'there and now price', just like Rooney ' s 26mill wasn't. And Rooney ' s was 10 years ago!! At the end of the day, every footballer has his flaws. It's a bit pointless forever looking for his flaws unless you are going to do it fairly for every player out there. You could say 'I would have preferred whoever...' but they'll have flaws too. So far, in his short career, he has proven himself to be a near top end goal scorer in the most difficult league in the world. So long as he continues to do so, I'll happily let him have his flaws.
  14. Besic, Barry, Atsu, Galloway, Lukaku, Eto'o. Not bad.
  15. Confirmed. A late one but it went through. Reported 16 million. We definitely were never going to be in for him!!!!
  16. Reports today saying we agreed a 7.5mill fee but then tried to knock it down to 5 mill. In a way I hope it's right, at least it means we've got a few quid sat around. I was also tagged in a couple of posts this morning....One with the title 'Villa and Everton fans react to not signing Cleverly...' and it's Del boy and Rodney laughing. Another said 'Everton's most successful transfer window...Not signing Cleverly'. Hahaha. Not very well thought of, is he?! Poor lad.
  17. "I've lost my glasses...has anyone seen my glasses" (Will, The Inbetweeners Movie)
  18. Well that was a poor transfer deadline day, all round not just for us. I'm overall happy with our business this summer. The squad overall is stronger. Just gonna sit back and enjoy the season. God I'm knackered tonight!
  19. SSN just said it never even got to the personal negotiating stage! Christ, it was miles away from happening!!!
  20. Haha...could be! God, think I've ate to much popcorn.
  21. Is 'points of fact' an actual saying or have I got that mixed up? It doesn't sound right!
