dark
Good to see were in front, was thinking that all the chances would come to nothing. For those of you who had a freezed stream - 51 GOAL - Shocking defending from Boro as the ball comes into the six-yard box. Turnbull saves from Cahill, but only Arca tries to stop the Aussie getting the rebound and he slots it home. Everton take the lead and fully deserved. dark
It's finished. 1-0 Cahill scrambled home from close range following Mikel Arteta's corner six minutes after the interval to move Everton up to sixth in the table. It was no more than Everton deserved after carving out a host of chances, with debutant Dan Gosling twice coming close to his first senior goal. Afonso Alves missed a chance to snatch a point for Middlesbrough late on. Everton delivered a composed performance to record their seventh away win of the season, with only Chelsea having more. Their recent resurgence is all the more remarkable given the fact that boss David Moyes is operating without a fit senior striker. But Cahill has stepped into the breach in the emergency and followed up his winner at Eastlands with another crucial strike to seal three Boxing Day points. Middlesbrough, in sharp contrast, were abject and have now gone seven games without a win. Everton were forced to draft teenager Gosling into their line-up after Leon Osman was ruled out, along with Joseph Yobo. But it did not have an adverse effect on Moyes' injury-hit side as they dominated the first 45 minutes. Steven Pienaar had the ball in the net early on, but it was ruled out for a push in the area as Everton pressed for an early advantage. Tuncay then tested Everton keeper Tim Howard, but it was a rare moment of danger for the Merseysiders in the early exchanges. Pienaar came close after 27 minutes when Cahill set him up 12 yards out, but his shot hit the post and rebounded to safety. Middlesbrough then had a period of pressure around the half-hour mark, with Howard saving well down low to his right from Gary O'Neill and then Joleon Lescott blocking crucially from Mido. Everton had the final chance of the first half when Lescott only succeeded in inadvertently clearing the danger after Cahill nodded Arteta's corner into the six-yard area. EFC-Paul
Another three away points on the board We bossed the game with comfort if we had a fit Yakubu or Saha to get on the end of some of those through balls we would have won by three or four. Quite impressed with Goslings performance made some good challenges and played a few good balls unlucky not to get a goal or two. Good crimbo week chaps COYB Edited December 26, 2008 by EFC-Paul
chicagoblue
Certainly worth the three points but we could use an outlet. When we try to break we've nowhere to go at the moment. Looks like we might at least have Vic back for the next match though. MikeO
Workmanlike win, could've been a lot more comfortable but with the players at our disposal I'm well happy with that. Back up to the top six where we belong....just sort out the home form (starting Sunday) and we'll have a run at Villa and Arsenal. Could do with the pair of them drawing this evening. Blue 250
Could well have been 3 or 4-0.One or two really good moves, didn't see any Everon player have a poor game. Gosling good performance!
Romey 1878
A very good win and in truth it could have been far more. With Hull getting smashed again today it was important for us to pick up the three points and we did exactly that and the boys played very well. I can't help feeling down because if our home form had been what it should be we'd comfortably be in the top four now . Hopefully that will pick up with us now playing well, starting against Sunderland.
Guest efctaxi
Good win today , with room to spare . Decent début from Gosling showing that he has the composure to carry the weight of a shirt , so good luck to him . Another silly yellow card from the big guy , but thought he contributed ok again today . Solid defensive work including some good blocks from Baines , with the whole backline playing well . Thankfully Lescott got by without a yellow so should have another strong defense against Sunderland . Dominated the first half , and very comfortable 2nd , so we're playing pretty well at the moment . Only 1 goal , but we can't complain under current injuries . Difficult to say who was my man of the match

JohnDTraynor
Now have the second best away record and the worst home record in the Premier League, and in sixth place with a negative goal difference, and the nearest challengers to sixth are Hull, Fulham and Wigan. Strange season.

GMorrison183
Just for a second, consider all the stories that have been going on...and where do we once again find ourselves? In a European Place. Great job by the boys, if you all can remember to the Big Fella's (my choice for his best nickname ) first game to now, he is really starting to adjust and settle into the squad. Anyone know how his English is coming? Great effort overall though.
MikeO
Everton have set a new Club record for league victories away from home in a calendar year. The much-deserved 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough means David Moyes' men have won 11 of their 19 matches on the road in 2008. That matches the total set in 1984 and 1985 - but in both those years the Toffees played 22 games. Remarkable stat .
