aaron
Brief argument. The fella literally ran at Gerrard. Gerrard smacked him once in self defence as any sane person would. The guys a big lad so Gerrard's mate jumped to his defence and bottled him. Minor injuries. That's it. Stevie's not intimidating anyone. It was self defence. whats your source on this info? whats your source, i know someone whos mother seen gerrard and his "posse" outside the lounge inn, glass everywhere apprently. Another question - do you back gerrard if he is found guilty?
Scottish Red
Me and a few mates have been piecing it together. First of all there's a video online that you can see. Second of all, I can't come across as someone who knows it all as I'm in scotland. But someone close to the club reported on the forum; a trusted member; that this was the case. Two trusted members actually (And another on RAWK although I don't trust RAWK as much) However Thirdly, this merely confirmed what many of us suspected from reading various versions of what happened and analysing the CCTV footage. What is certain is that he was acting out of self defence. Edited January 7, 2009 by Scottish Red
Scottish Red
Bah! Video might be fake actually after looking at its source. That scuppers even my ideas then. I'll have to base it on my other sources. Apologies about that. The only part I'm 100% certain about now is that he was retaliating.
Bill
Wouldnt worry about it, he'll get off with it anyway, 1st offence will probably be a warning about future conduct and a fine.
MikeO
The only part I'm 100% certain about now is that he was retaliating. If he was retaliating then when's the other guy (the agressor by definition) going to be charged? He's not. Assaulting someone because you think they're going to assault you is not retaliation. EFC-Paul
In terms of self-defence Gerrard and others accused will not be able to play that card lightly by most accounts of what happend is that Gerrard and his friends started kicking off because the DJ wouldn't play the songs they wanted. So the provocation started by thier means coupled with the fact they where all intoxicated and the Dj was not and using force within a group doesnt bode well in court. So in terms of self defence there are no reports what so ever that the DJ made the first move or even landed a single blow on any of Gerrards party of tosser's. Like Bill has already said he will get off with it guilty or not he will walk with a slap on the wrist or a kiss on the arse. "A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime, or in effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or of persons unlawfully at large." rubecula
Well to be honest I have no idea who is in the wrong and who is in the right here. One thing I do think though is that Gerrard is a public figure, like him or loathe him, he is an example to youngsters. As such he should set an example. If he is guilty then he should be given the heaviest of punishments, not because he is a red but because of the position he holds to youngsters. If he is innocent as some believe then he should walk free without a stain on his character. Maybe with an advisory warning tattoed on his a*se so his team mates can read it in the bath. By the way is he from the same neck of the woods as Joey Barton?

By the way is he from the same neck of the woods as Joey Barton? Agree with you there mate. I think that as he is a footballer he should set a standard for those looking up to him. It's about what happens off the pitch aswell as on it and if he's going to make punching people acceptable then he needs to be punished. I agree with your points. If he's guilty - he should be punished. If he isn't just let him off like any other citizen does.

Jimmy the blue
So what happened about this case ?All seems to have been brushed under the carpet somewhat . It goes to Crown Court in July I think. The Indian guy who owns the restaurant lives round the corner from me, it seems he has 'gone back to India' for an extended holiday I'm told. I would think he'll be back but watch this space
