duncanmckenzieismagic
Would he have done better than a rusty player who has had a few minutes of competitive football with a team he's had no time to get acquainted with? Absolutely. We could also say that with our usual back 4 we wouldn't have conceded the goals.... that with Barry we would have had more cohesion and leadership.... But let's just talk about Rom. Well it is the Rom thread! Anyway I didn't expect you to acknowledge we missed him badly last night but thanks for confirming Lowensda
Hafnia
Well it is the Rom thread! Anyway I didn't expect you to acknowledge we missed him badly last night but thanks for confirming He is the best striker we have. Just like last year robles was the best keeper we had. Is kone going to score the goals he does? No i dont think so. He's the next best thing and his strengths are in all round play... better than Roms in that regard. As I said.... we needed a good striker to be signed and we didn't do that.
Shukes
Lukaku's done a lot more than Rooney did for us. No way. Rooney played while we were fighting relegation, and we survived. Lukaku plays in what many term, out best squad in 20 years....and we've punched below our weight. Rooney fee also saved our club in my opinion. That can't be associated with him, it was the club who defined the price. I'd also argue that his contribution was not as good as people like to believe. 17 goals in 77 games for us is not something to get excited by and he sure as shit wasn't responsible for our survival. Your right on the first point. Second nd point though, I am not saying he was responsible for it, just that he was at the club during it and had his say. So to say Rom has done more for the club, after us achieving our worst two seasons with a better squad is.....well, somewhat questionable. Ability of Lukaku is one thing, but saying he has done more for us......Just can't see what myself. Unless we feel that eleventh was an achievement? I was thinking more of the European and cup runs where his goals really helped us progress. League position is not on his shoulders, even if he could've done better

Hafnia
17 year old Rooney in our team of last 3 years = 20 + prem goals every season. Peter Beardsley- simply put if he hadn't have been associated with Liverpool would be more celebrated as an Everton player. One of the most intelligent, selfless and gifted forwards England has had in last 50 years.
Shukes
Lukaku was the reason we weren't fighting for survival last season. No he wasn't though. Your bright enough to know that if you take one player away your team will adapt. Matt has a point about euro etc, but I still think Lukaku shoulders the same responsibility as all the rest. And I still profess that for me eleventh isn't in any way an achievement for Everton football club......Just hope he doesn't help us this season eh! He was like having a defender playing up front the way he closed defenders down. Then once the ball was at his feet, he magically changed into a gifted technical player. Awesome. Hafnia
Man, I was absolutely devastated when he sign for those we don't mention. What a player. The fact he isn't spoken about these days as a legend is a piss take.... the man looked like the last kid you'd pick to be on your side but seriously what a footballer! He did his shimmy, the defenders knew the shimmy was coming and what happened?, they couldn't stop it? He helped average to decent strikers look amazing. Does anyone think Andy Cole was that good? Was he bollocks... we sold Beardsley thinking £1m was a great return to Newcastle and he turned Cole into a goal machine just like he did with other strikers along the way. England always looked garbage without him. Probably doesn't get spoken about as world class but he was. duncanmckenzieismagic
I agree about Beardsley, one of the best players I've seen in an Everton shirt Missing out on Dean Saunders and getting him instead was one of the best bits of business the club has ever done

Technically he is a million years away from suarez but most players are. I'd like to see him adapt suarez team ethic and somewhat "unhealthy" desire to win. If he just does that alone he will be a major valuable asset. Matt, nutmegwolf203 and Romey 1878

Hafnia
I agree... it's frustrating when the best player in the team doesn't win anything. I'm assuming he was player of the year in all the last 3 years? Just checked... nope. Hasn't won fans player, players player or young player of the year in his time here. Guess you turned the sound down quickly on your TV when on Friday pundit 'Thierry Henry' said that Everton didn't have a decent enough play maker to bring the best out of Lukaku......and Lukaku would probably have to move on to become what he is capable of ! See, some are capable of only seeing what a player 'can' do, others are capable of seeing what a player 'could' do......oh well, it was only Thierry Henry, what does he know !! I can see he's not the finished item, I can also see what Thierry is talking about.Lukaku hasn't exactly excelled in the last couple of games, nor have we as a team. Thierry Henry, voted Arsenals greatest player, scorer of 228 goals, oh well, maybe he lacks your judgement. I hope your right because, if Theirry's right, he'll be gone in January and we could be fuc%ed.

That's why it's a forum not a news aggregator site. Would this be Thierry Henry that is the assistant coach to martinez? He must see a really good manager there..... oh yeah he also works with lukaku doesn't he..... If the lad rectified areas of the game that let him down then I'll hold my hands up. Till then everything is just talk.
