“I said to the boys the other day, isn’t it about time someone got on the end of a corner kick? We’ve spoken about the forwards, but the other players need to chip in with some goals as well.”

Stop Mikel "hit the first man" Arteta from taking them and we may have a chance of scoring from a corner.

Im more concerned that we havent got a CF who knows where the back of the net is than Artetas set pieces

had another thought on this, Arteta's 2 goals have come from him sitting on the edge of the area whilst Baines takes the corner, right?

no his goal against utd was from a cross by baines not a corner..still though he is one of the best shooters we have he should be hangin around outside the area and let baines or bily take them

I agree mate but CFs feed off service and if theres are crap crosses coming in, which is a large part of the service, theyve got even less chance. Add that to the fact they cant shoot.... At least giving them decent service might, big might here, give them more chances of scoring.

never understood the likes of lampard, drogba, gerrard etc taking corners and the same goes for Arteta. You want your clean ball strikers on the edge of the box ready to pick up the headed clearance which is usually the outcome from an arial ball in. How many times have you seen scholes smash one is and score or pretty much near as do so.

As far as corners go, unless you are looking at an Andy Hinchcliffe esque delivery, you want to make it beat the first man and give the keeper and defenders something to think about. Does it really take a dead ball specialist to take a corner? You want someone who can put it in the mix with some pace, anything other than hitting the defender on the near post.

Apart from that our strikers haven't been scoring as saha is only just getting back, Yak is still and has not been fit and beckford will take time - that's if he get's there.

We have been crying out for a striker since Yak got injured. Apart from the injury prone saha who else is there?

Thats the problem though, there is nothing wrong with the service as Tim Cahill is proving. We are creating chances by the bucketfull but just not taking them.

Unless of course you mean the corners!

i don't think we are creating all that many chances...having a lot of play in the opponents half yes but not many clear cut chances to speak of! cahill is just showing how good he is with limited chances

I think that may have been the case earlier on in the season but we have been creating plenty of chances of late, against Blackpool alone we had enough chances to win 5 games(20 shots 14 on target 2 goals) . Against Stoke it was the same (18 shots 10 on target 1 goal)

We are just missing a decent CF who can finish off the chances we are creating

The only service Skippy is getting is from Baines from open play. He gets nothing from Artetas corners/freekicks which is why we (Mark and I) dont want him taking corners, freekicks or any other forms of crossing! Let Baines take all of them, stick Arteta on the edge of the box like Marco said and create more dangerous deliveries which make the opportunities. Arteta can then belt anything that comes his way through the crowd and rip the net open

think mikky is sitting too deep during normal play.

I agree, he's our most creative player and needs to be around the box more. Also, before his injury, he was easily our best set piece taker - aside from a slight dodgy spell for a couple of months. Baines set pieces aren't usually anything special but I do agree that he should be taking more at the moment, most of his assists come from open play, Arteta was an amazing crosser in open play too. I think once Arteta gets back up to speed (assuming that he does) hopefully his set piece delivery will return, when/if it does, he should take all of them as far as I'm concerned. He needs encouragement, not stick, he's our best player and we want him to express himself not get negative and play safe.

Id much rather have Baines taking set pieces as well as well as have Arteta on the edge of the box.

Of all the chances we have been creating I dont think too many have fallen to our strikers, at least not the good ones. I can only think of maybe 3/4 good chances Yakubu has had in the last couple of games and he has scored one. In fact according to the stats in the last 2 games cahill has had 10 shots, 2 on target, 1 goal. Yakubu has 3 shots, 3 on target, 1 goal.

For me that is the problem. You cant really blame the strikers if the service they are getting is shite. You could say that part of that is yakubu's fault as well but he always tries making himself available in the box and IMO he creates a lot of the space that Cahill attempts to exploit.

At least Davey has come out with a stark warning, letting them know to get their arses in gear. What I dont like about that article is that he hints Saha will be starting when fit ahead of Yakubu.

Artetas corner taking in particular has always been poor even before he got injured. Baines has also been sloppy but i think you get more gems from baines than you do from Arteta and that overall Baines is more consistent.

This quote from the BBC's match report about sums it up

"A tendency to marry promising approach play with poor finishing has been a source of mounting dismay to Moyes, and nothing the Scot saw against Bolton will have allayed his concerns.

Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, Louis Saha and Fellaini were serial squanderers of half-chances over the course of the evening, and Everton were also woefully poor from corners, winning a total of 15 yet barely threatening from one."

Saha (I think) had a header from a corner cleared off the line so not quite accurate....though still not good enough.

This is what I just don't get. He WAS back up to speed when he came back from his injury at the end of last season. He was absolutely running the show for us and dominating games from start to finish. It had me so excited for this season. But come this season he's been so poor it's untrue. A total pussy on the ball, afraid to try anything. I just do not understand what has happened to him over the summer.

I disagree about his corners having always been good, I've never liked them. His free-kicks yes, but not his corners. I believe we had 15 corners last night and didn't look remotely threatening. How many of those corners did Arteta take? Genuine question because I wasn't there!

He took most of them probably 2/3 until Bainess took over, but to be fair they where not much better.

Our corners aren't threatening due to two things IMO - Arteta is shite at them, and then there's the fact that we very rarely vary our corners. Whoever is taking them is always trying to do the exact same thing every time. Do our coaches not realise it makes us easy to defend against?

This is very true, i remember seeing we'd had 21 goal attempts after 75 minutes last night and thinking there's something badly wrong if you can't find back of the net from that many efforts
