Popular Post Broughtonblue Posted August 9, 2014 Popular Post Report Posted August 9, 2014 Hi Leicester fan in peace! It's seems pretty fitting that our first game back in the top league, after 10 years is against a club that 'lost' one of its own fans at a fixture against us 10 years ago, As you probably know, Bernard was walking to our stadium when he was tragically hit by debris dislodged by a very strong wind, unfortunately he lost his life. Just like to let you know as fans, and a club we haven't forgotten him, Infact I believe he has a plaque in our memorial garden. Matt, MikeO, Toffee_in_LA and 5 others 8 Quote
MikeO Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 Thanks for that, appreciate the thought and reminder. Was tragic. http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/bernard-murphy-an-obituary.html Matt and rubecula 2 Quote

rubecula Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 I second what MikeO said. Thank you for your kind post. It is deeply appreciated. Quote
Broughtonblue Posted August 9, 2014 Author Report Posted August 9, 2014 I echo Broughton's post No fan should go to a football game and not return home Agree completely, unfortunately another two fans lost their lives inside our stadium last season, a lifelong city fan suffered a heart attack in the concourse before a match, and a Doncastor fan had an aneurysm in the stands at our last match, our win sent Donny down and obviously we were presented with the championship trophy after the game. It was hard to celebrate as where I was sat when the trophy was presented we could see the panic amongst their fans as paramedics worked frantically on the poor chap. Quote

Horrible stuff. Puts things into perspective Quote
Broughtonblue Posted August 9, 2014 Author Report Posted August 9, 2014 Fucking hell, I'm not going now When I was posting this and thinking about it, to an outsider it would seem like we are cursed! Quote
Paddock Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 When I was posting this and thinking about it, to an outsider it would seem like we are cursed! Ha ha, it did a bit but I was just pointing it out a little lightheartedly. You're right though, no fan should not come home and it was really decent of you to remember our lad so respect to you for that. Quote
MikeO Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 Trip to Leicester sounds like booking a week end break in Midsomer . rubecula, Romey 1878 and Matt 3 Quote

JLS Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 It's our first season in the Premiership for ten years and whilst many will be celebrating can we all spare a thought for the family of Bernard Murphy who died whilst attending this fixture ten years ago when he was struck by a piece of hoarding. Leicester fans will be thinking of you. JLS Quote

Broughtonblue Posted August 16, 2014 Author Report Posted August 16, 2014 Was lovely to see the wreaths placed on and around his bench today, from both clubs and family/friends, also the amount of fans of both clubs paying their respect was touching. R.I.P Romey 1878 1 Quote
