I never seen Barkley as lazy and as I've said I dont see it with martial.  The facts may prove me wrong.  Barkley had lazy games - No doubt. But overall I seen a player desperate to do well for us. He cared for the shirt.

Is it the fact that I think it's criminal for a player like lukaku to give the ball away so much and not try and recover it?  That does piss me off.

Either way the facts are this.  Of the two players we are comparing - one is playing superb football and leading the man United line and the other has had a mystery injury concocted in order to drop him.  Every time martial plays against us he shows things we have never seen from lukaku. True genuine class.

You don’t have to convince me of Martial’s class. I was another that wanted him as a Lukaku replacement when he was out of favour last season.

And I’ve always found Barkley to be particularly lazy for a midfielder. The difference between he and Siggy’s pressing and tracking back is night and day for me.

Having the touch like you are wearing slippers and not steel toe capped boots and finding a team mate with your passes can get you to avoid criticism of not working too hard.

Try being a lazy fucker with the touch of an elephant.... not gonna work is it.

Modern game required player to at least do a standard of work in terms of helping the team recover and press the ball.

I really don’t like this view. We’re not talking about top attacking players like Ronaldo and Messi, we’re talking about Martial ffs! If Lukaku isn’t talented enough to avoid criticism for being lazy, than neither is Martial.

I feel like this was also your excuse for Barkley avoiding criticism for his laziness under us (and the opposite applies for Walcott). Oh the kid is lazy and lacks a bit of end product/game smarts, but look at his first touch! I’d rather just look critically at all of these players relevent deficiencies, and not just ignore them when they’re a “pretty player”.

A few matches back we had that trick play morgan pass to someone who scored on a corner.  Now that I think of it that might be the only corner scored all year!  Yikes we are terrible at corners

That was the freekick routine that Walcott scored from. We’ve also had Richarlison score his first goal from a freekick scramble and Keane scored a header too.

Don’t think we’ve actually scored one from a corner yet, but the deliveries haven’t been too bad recently, it’s the finishing that’s been the problem.

  4. I don’t really understand the shouts about his attitude. He’s an aggressive winger who’s asked to use his pace to get in behind and stretch defences quite often during a game; of course he’s not always going to be able to get back to help out in defence, but he still does his fair share.

My bigger issue with him is always going to be his lack of technique and, to a lesser extent, his finishing/final ball. But I still think the positives definitely out balance the negatives and, worst comes to worst, he’s still an excellent impact sub off the bench.

Serena Williams, what a bad loser; the ultimate "do you know who I am?" personality. Total lack of sportsmanship and completely spoiled the occasion for the Japanese lass who beat her, the crowd were dreadful also.

Can’t stand her personally because of this. Still whinging in her press conference about not being able to express her emotions on the court. When those “emotions” have included threatening linesmen in the past, I’m glad a chair umpire has finally stood up to her.

We have got rid of most of our deadwood on loan we may need Tom around the first team in case of injury.

This. With Gomes arriving injured it’s only taken Schneiderlin going down for us to need him as a starter. If he’s struggling to get games once Gomes and Bernard bed in loan him off in Jan, but it’d be crazy to get rid of him now.

I respect jags but I can't see him starting ahead of Mina, Holgate, Keane or Zouma when they are all fully fit, he turns 36 next week and I don't see them renewing his contract at the end of the season either. The Mina-Jags pairing might make sense if you're thinking of it as a youngster paired with an experienced head, but tactically they don't compliment each other - Mina is 6ft 5in and built solid, he's strong, slightly pacey with his extremely long legs over short distances when running forward but is particularly slow on the turn, he'd be better served pairing with a faster more mobile defender who can sweep behind when he challenges for headers or when we're caught on the counter. I'd be scared ever pairing the two.

As it stands, with Holgate injured and Zouma not a confirmed arrival yet, I'd still be starting Jags over Keane. A pairing of Mina and Keane against any fleet footed player is just asking for trouble with their turning circles.

Fair question. My impressing was the he was more the physical imposing type, not the silky ball playing variety, but I've only seen him play a handful of times and was not watching for him

It's just that the main things I've heard about him are his aerial presence and how he's very much the modern defender in how good he is on the ball and with his passing 😅 My main concerns over him are whether he'd be able to adapt to a more physical, high-tempo league and that (from all reports) he's quite an aggressive, pressing defender who'll probably need a calmer head next to him in defense to keep him in check.

Edit: forgot that this is in the Zouma thread, but I am talking about Mina above 🤣

Is he meant to be a ball playing CB?  If we are after someone like Mina then we need another to compliment.  Right now we have absolutely no way to come out from the back. (Unless Holgate is the plan)  I have to think SIlva's style would demand someone back there who has confidence on the ball.

Are you trying to say that Mina is good or bad on the ball? Because there's a reason a team like Barcelona bought him initially.

What makes you think Jags is a back up? Right now he’s first choice, by far our best defender. Regardless of the next few days, Jags and Keane have the starting spots on Saturday.

I’ve always like Zouma though, looked a real talent. Not sure how his last year or so has gone.

I get the feeling he hasn't been the same since his injury in the 15-16 season. Still managed to play the majority of games for Stoke last season while on loan, but they did get relegated 😕 Loan to buy might be the best option for him.
