Bit of a strange move to start McGeady when he hasn't even seen bench time. Would've thought it'd be more beneficial to start Deuloreu because he's further along with his fitness.

And, oh my god, Barry isn't even on the bench. He's actually getting a rest!

He is also in our starting 11 today. Definitely does not mean that he is staying by any stretch of the imagination but if he would have been out of our lineup, it would have all but meant that he was gone

Disagree here for a few reasons:-

Regardless of whether you think we will socre or concede less or more with or without John is irrelvant, this is an opportunity for us to stand up for ourselves. The change the media perception of us, to stop the boring "everton have young talent will sell to man united or chelsea"
We will not replace him in a cost effective manner at this stage - this season is massive, TV money is next year and will make the £40m for stones seem like the £10m for arteta. Stones value will not fall - he is too good. and too professional
Part of me wants him sold at a pittance and the money not reinvested as I want this board smoked out and I want investigations and a "full" audit ran on the finances from expenditure to recipient to invoices. But no - this is a big moment in our recent history, we have a great youth back bone and I want him retained.
Any money we get will be spent at an inflated price. - no bargains, Johnny Evans at £12-15m etc etc, add on agents fees etc and that is £17m in elstone talk. leaving about £8m for a bog standard attacking mid.

are Barnsley stupid? why sell a sell on clause??? clearly it would be done so that there is an advantage to the buyer.... get back under your sun lamp bob.

I think the word classless is very appropriate for your club. You have very little history other than the premier league era where the London millions and the russian rubles have turned you into some "chav like" lottery winners.

The way Chelsea behave smacks of some stella swigging yob who won £20m on the lotto and decided to buy a country estate. Whilst the longer established neighbours get on with their activities in a classy quiet manner, the Chelsea chav has a chip on his shoulder, he knows he doesn't truly belong among those who have an extended history, he knocks on their front door waving £50 notes asking if they want to sell their range rover to him - he doesn't know a good car he just sees people drive one so he wants it.

From Manager to players your club just smacks of arrogance and it has made you a very unpopular club, no wonder the fans have a chip on their shoulders. You could go and win back to back leagues but you will never be considered a grand club. Your fan base is pretty much made up of:-

15% - the old firm, a few headhunters who argue that the 80's were better when all the business men weren't eating prawn butties.
60% - the prawn butty bunch - drop into mid table and watch them go and follow rugby or something
25% - the fifa/football manager generation. Everything is about money and a players pace and skill ratings on a computer.

    which one are you?

It may be fun for yourself but you've joined a forum to basically take the piss no two ways about it as Ten said if you came on with your second post then fair enough but you didn't

People will use the word classless and rightly so the way your smacked arse manager goes about his business and the club itself is just that

If you want constructive information on the lad or how we feel about the situation then ask away but don't come on taking the piss then trying to take the morale high ground as it won't wash

I know I moaned about him yesterday but it wasn't at him. I think he can be an excellent player with a lot to offer when played here.

It's not his fault Roberto plays him as a winger.

Some of the messages posted today have me baffled.

    - First off, comments made to the Barnsley guy were disgraceful. Whatever happened to "thinking Evertonian"? A little decency costs nothing.
    - Second, this is a transfer request. Request does not equal "done deal". Everton hold almost every card in this little game of poker.
    - Third, football is a business. If a recruiter tells you they can triple your salary, would you ignore them? I can't believe anyone here would remain loyal to their company with such an offer on the table.
    - Fourth, almost everything discussed so far is conjecture. There's no point crying over something that hasn't happened.

My main concern is that, behind the scenes, some shady shenanigans are going on. I don't mean anything with the board, but some of the billionaires that play around the Prem represent, shall we say, powerful interests. I would not be surprised if we aren't being held to ransom here - with power-brokers blocking our attempted transfers elsewhere until we give in to their demands. Fair? Of course not. Real life? You betcha. Anyone who's done business in the parts of the world represented by these owners knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Ok. Well if it's nothing to do with us wanting him to submit a request then let's politely remind him he is contracted to us and we will look at things next year.

What's the worst that can happen? He's unlikely to kick up a fuss and spit his dummy out, it's the euro's next summer, he needs to get his head down.

As stated above a transfer request does not mean sell.

Can we not just get back to the fact that this is a transfer request (because he's in no position to demand one).

    Request...

noun 1.the act of asking for something to be given or done, especially as a favour or courtesy
We are under no obligation to give him one. Just say no. Problem solved.

Not sure of this stuff aimed at 'BarnsleyFan'. Seems a bit OTT.

Having pops at the lad for his club being in League 1 and being bitter...then having pops at Chelsea for being plastic, buying success, having no history etc. Who sounds bitter?

If Stones goes, it will be gutting. As gutting as it was for Barnsley fans when he left them. Stones made a natural progression from them to us. He MIGHT now make another natural progression.

I really really really wish football business was different. I really really really wish that we could hold onto these obvious young talents and head into the top 4 causing a footballing revolution and proving that it can be done. But money talks. And we don't have any. Our players know that and our fans know that (read the board thread...but somehow we still act shocked when this happens!). So given the chance, players will make that jump if given the chance to. It's fuckin annoying as a fan, but it's also 'real life'.

IF he has handed in a request, let him go and get every last penny we can get.

IF he does go. Wish him well and thank him for being a good player for this club.

IF it all goes through, and you ever see his agent, Jose or any of these rag journalists in the street...Rip their bollocks right off and stamp on them.

    That's all.

Baines was a little different though Matt. He wasn't pushing for the move, he said himself when them fans filmed him in his car, if the club accept an offer I'll go, if not I'm happy to stay.

May have been a bit of bull shit in that, but he didn't push for the move.

The club need a statement tomorrow before the match, if they haven't confirmed by kick off the boo boys might make John's mind up for him.

This. I'm shocked if the request was actually put in, especially because I'm sure Stones is well aware that that Martinez and Woods have both said there's no way we're selling now, Martinez going as far as to say that even if he puts in a transfer request he's still ours. Gutted that he would then test Everton's resilience by putting in a request anyway, but 100% we have to keep him until January at least. He'll still play, he'll still play well without the pressure of Chelsea, and we'll have 4 months to get in two replacements.

    Definitely

We are in no position to be able to sell him now, even if we managed to bring in Mori and Evans/Van Dijk . Two have never kicked a ball in the Premiership and the other is permanently injured

I cant see Stones throwing a tantrum if we turn down his request and either way I would take an unhappy Stones over an injured Evans any day of the week

    I hate football.

I honestly never believed for a second he'd hand in a transfer request (if he has). Not to mention how late he's left it too. We've been struggling to bring in a back-up CB all summer, how are we going to manage to bring in a starter that replaces the quality of Stones?

I said there was still a chance we'd come out of the window stronger, now we definitely won't. I'm sure we'll do some business when we get the money in for him (it'll be £40m max now) but we won't bring in adequate quality, and I'm embarrassed that this will be the only way we were able to spend money this summer.

Feel like fucking football off in all honesty.
