  1. Very happy with that news. He's certainly got some good years left.
  2. Whoa...that's an impressive career of travel. This is certainly a good way to stay in touch with Evertonians. Welcome.
  3. Welcome from a fellow American. I've only been on the boards here for a bit, but I learn a lot. I've been "forced" into rugby (union) as my girlfriend is the coach of our college team at James Madison University (womens) and she is also the manager of the US National Team (womens)...she's played all her life--tiny as she is--but due to several shoulder injuries she now just coaches. I've got a lot of friends in MPLS...great city.
  4. I haven't been paying too much attention but if this is his defense, it's ridiculous. Though, sadly, ridiculously porous defenses have worked before, such as in the OJ case. I recall this gem from the OJ case from the execrable defense team on the chances of DNA mismatches: Lawyer: So you say “10 to the power of minus 30” and your “colleague” claims it’s only “10 to the power of minus 24.” Isn’t that a big difference? Statistician: Actually, not so big… Lawyer: What do you mean “not so big”? Isn’t the difference between the two estimates six orders of magnitude? Statistician: Well… Lawyer: Six orders of magnitude, ladies and gentlemen. Six orders of magnitude! This is the difference between one dollar and one million dollars As if there is a huge difference between "never ever ever ever ever fucking happening" and "never ever ever ever fucking happening."
  5. Seems strange to disparage another fan's commitment...I live in the USA and lots of other fans live even further away (e.g., Thailand). I make a point to watch each game, either live or DVR'd, and next fall I'm going to make the journey over to Goodison to catch a few games over a few weeks. But holding a season ticket or going regularly to the matches is geographically out of the question. Does that make me more of an armchair supporter than others...perhaps? But I'm late in supporting Everton relative to many here I'm certain I'm likely to be labeled something like a newbie or whatever. Labels...humans and their fucking labels.
  6. Lukaku for me. Set up the first goal, got the second, kept their defense distracted. But the midfield was also amazing. Not a poor performance out there.
  7. I feel very bad for Benteke; he's out for a long time with an Achilles injury. I was looking forward to seeing his performance in the world cup this summer (and this will perhaps put more eyes/offers on Lukaku). http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/apr/03/christian-benteke-suffers-achilles-injury-aston-villa-belgium-world-cup
  8. Barkley had such a great game against Arsenal last fall...really hoping he regains that flair. And I hope McGeady starts.
  9. My dark horse team for Brazil this summer is Japan.
  10. How do you all pay for your internet usage in England (or elsewhere)? In the US it's usually through a cable modem and there is unlimited usage/bandwidth. For example at my GF's house we can stream anything we want for as long as we want (for a flat rate of about 80$ per month). However, I live way out in the country and have to pay by the download (like a gas meter), so for me it's 10 dollars per gigabyte. Hence my internet is strictly for email; if I stream a netflix movie, well that's about 22GB or 220 dollars. So speed isn't my biggest worry.
  11. Deulofeu's got a lot of potential, but in my mind his whole schtick at present is 90% fake-left-step-over-move/shoot right; and it's more than a bit predictable. He's pesky and effective in certain situations and I'm not knocking him for that, but he can be shut down pretty quick by an astute defense. Fortunately for him he's young so I hope to see his game get more versatile.
  12. Like others, I'm going with Howard--kept it from being a 3-3 tie in my mind, but strong performances throughout.
  13. I think we can get a win; Fulham's January moves haven't been paying off in terms of wins; they had a good result against Newcastle and tied ManU, but nothing else. I'd like to see McGeady in the starting line-up instead of Osman or Mirallas.
  14. I was really impressed with Stones, but it's difficult to ignore Gerry's performance; some great runs on goal and his passes set up the last two goals.
  15. Indeed, a rather shaky final minute for him.
  16. A few errant passes by Barry, but otherwise, McCarthy, Barry, Barkley are looking really strong so far.
  17. Newcastle 1 - Everton 1 Mirallas
