Ant1979 reacted to Romey 1878 in January
One plays as an out and out striker, the other plays mostly as a winger... so you'd expect that?

Ant1979 reacted to Matt in Leighton Baines
Arteta had a pay rise for one season then sold (though for a poor fee in retrospect)
Felli had a pay rise for one season then sold (for crazy money)
Baines is being given a pay rise --> either here for life (additional 4.5 to 6m over the next 3-4 years for one of the best LB going = bargain) or being sold on for stupid money (giving us money to spend and improve the squad).
Im happy with either scenario to be honest. Very happy to keep him, but wont be too upset if he gets sold for an inflated fee - considering its going to be a summer transfer window after a World Cup, a great chance of his fee being even further inflated!

The way I see it is, no guts, no glory. There's no safe, risk-free method of getting into the CL. We'll have to take some gambles. I think Baines is a good gamble.

Likewise. But it would be a great statement of intent from the club and the player; £75,000 may be a lot for us but less than he'd get if he moved I think.
As Ant said the new TV money kicks in at the end of this season so a big chunk of that was always going to be passed on to players (sadly). If we were to get champs league and bring in the players to give us a decent run in it that's the sort of money we'd have to be looking at anyway.
Exciting dilemma to have though .

Ant1979 reacted to johnh in Everton article in Irish Times on the Everton-Irish connection
The first article gives the impression that Peter Corr played in the late 1950's. I saw him play for Everton in the late 1940's. He was brilliant in the first half but ran out of steam in the second half (every game). There were no subs then so it was like playing with ten men in the second half. Peter Farrell, Everton captain, was brilliant. Never stopped running for 90 minutes. Was stood behind the goal when Peter Farrell scored for Ireland against England at Goodison (about 1948/49). Ireland won 2 - 0 which raised a few eyebrows as England didn't lose 'at home' in those days. They had never ever lost at Wembley. Tommy Eglington was a mercurial presence on the left wing. Can still see them all as though it was yesterday.

Ant1979 reacted to MikeO in Difficult one this, but on balance feel the need to post it....
Not going to turn this into a "cancer diary" because those want a bit more info are getting it already but I'll update briefly on occasion because of all of the kind responses.
Surgery last week was a success and I've had my first chemo & radiotherapy sessions in the last couple of days. Feel great, really positive, bring it on .
That'll do .

Ant1979 reacted to Louis in Training in Tenerife
If anybody's interested, there's a Tenerife-based Radio manager/Newspaper editor on twitter who has been posting photographs of the team in training.

I have no idea why he's wearing a scarf in Tenerife.

Ant1979 reacted to Cornish Steve in People you admire
I thought it might be a good idea to start an uplifting thread. Who do you admire in life, and why?
This incredible young man passed away last week, just one day before he was to be honorary captain of the New England Patriots. How can you not admire his courage in the face of adversity.

Ant1979 got a reaction from s-mackie in Aiden McGeady
I think Martinez is the man to get the best out of him, more than any other manager in the prem. As he did with Maloney, a player who struggled at Villa but became a real talisman for Wigan. Roberto gets players expressing themselves with confidence, the word negativity just isn't in his vocabulary
