He was woeful tonight, offered absolutely nothing
I’ve never been sold on him. I’m praying he’ll come good but he’s now got attack minded players around him and we’re still seeing nothing.

While his price tag was ridiculous (especially as we'd already brought two other number 10s in at that point) that's not my issue with him. My issue is him just living up to being what he was brought in for. And that's to be a focal point of our attack and I don't feel he involves himself in the game enough. He's shown that when he does involve himself that he can be exactly what we need and a huge influence for us. And it shouldn't only happen if the whole team is playing well. His role is to lead the others, not the other way around. He is supposed to get the rest playing well. That's what frustrates me.
I watched it all the way in and it was as beautiful as the replays make it look. My reaction was literally "wow".
His job should be to play the 10 role you can’t count the time under Koeman or Allerdyce as he’s was played out of position regularly or was playing in a team set up not to lose. This season will be his big test and I think so far he’s done well.

If we’d have paid £20 million for him nobody would be questioning him. I see it on Twitter all the time “ he needs to start living up to his price tag” why?? Fid he ask to be sold for that much money, is it his fault we overpaid massively for him, is it his fault he walked into the middle of a shit storm? The lad is easily one of outlr best players and one of the few who gives you hope that we can do something a bit special when we are struggling or need to pull a rabbit out the hat.
He shouldn’t be on pens though.

Anyone else a bit concerned that Fulham seemed to have literally the whole of our half of the pitch to themselves a couple of times when they broke?
-
Widley reported that that’s true now. Broke his metatarsal. You couldn’t make this up could you. It’s like we’re fucking cursed.

Just the grown-ups messing about Pad mate, thread off at a tangent, normal TT stuff.
I’m
talking about the thread title- what’s wrong with it?

Still not got the slightest clue what anyones on about and to be honest, I’m not in the slightest bit arsed.

Every fuckers injured- we’re struggling to put a strong team out against West Ham- have they really been not worked properly and are they really that unfit or have we just been unlucky.

But there is risk with every signing. What happens if we let him go and bring in a dud? What if Mina is rubbish and we need to move him on too?
there is a lot to be said for having a steady guy in the side.
So we buy an already proven younger CB. Jagielka has been a great servant I’d hate to see him being treated like Reid was at the end, imo opinion that’ll happen (already is in some sections of fans) should he play another season with us after this one.

His legs are still quicker than Keanes!
Will they be next year? 37 is old for any player to play premier league football.

So? If he’s still playing well he’ll at least be a good stand-in if needed. Not to mention the off field benefits of having him around.
See above post. If we want to push into top 6 having a 37 year old full back who’s legs are on the way out is not for me. Buy a replacement and let him go.

I don’t care how old he is. Why does that matter if he’s still a positive influence and good enough.
I don’t want a 37 year old defender as back up- his legs have already gone. Buy a replacement and move him out.

Jags was by far our best defender last year. We can’t replace him with a back up player that would even be as good as him let alone better. Why not just give Jags another year to keep some consistency in the squad and still a good standard?
Next season he’ll be 37 wont he?

I just don’t see it with Davies, I’ve been patient and watched and watched him. I don’t get it, he’s not good enough

This season has started off well so don't want to get too far ahead but looking to next May the following appear to be out of contract: Baines, Jags, Williams
Apart from Baines they should both be released. Baines deserves one more season (as back up) for me.

Naismith (Lukaku aside) was the best finisher we have had in a long time. His inability to keep up with the forward play and constant losing of the ball breaking up attacks was his downfall. His finishing was top notch.

I really hope that we have a clause to buy the lad. I know what he’s said, but Lukaku said the same and stayed way past his 1 season loan. Can we get lucky twice?
There’s no clause- Silva has said there isn’t hopefully he loves it here and we offer Chelsea enough money to tempt them- IF he continues to impress.
