I Hoole we don’t get drawn in to the Zaha stuff again, I’d much rather go for some younger players, I really like the look of Jack Harrison at Leeds, fast, direct and good skills. Our record of bringing in older players recently is poor, James, Siggy Ashley Williams, none have delivered what we expected.

A DOF cannot be held accountable for a player getting injured, is Liverpool’s DOF accountable for VVD (the most recent serious injury I can think of at the moment) anymore than they would be for them being involved in an accident of some sort, or the player becoming seriously ill. What they could be accountable for is signing a player with known injury history caused by no contact activity, even if they were, it’s a commercial risk. We signed Peter Reid who had a long history of injury, it was a risk, but that one turned out well.

I’d like to update my thoughts after the last few games. Holgate can go, his “I’m really good” attitude and lack of care put us on the back foot against Villa, and nearly cost another goal on Sunday, he doesn’t seem to be able to learn from his mistakes. Gylfi and Gomes haven’t upped their game when needed, no clear desire to win important games, I’ve started climbing down the selling side of the fence now.

On recent performances we need to leave it until the end of next season to renew, of we want to, he either puts in a decent performance or is anonymous and becomes the ultimate finger pointer. Being realistic, he’s not the player to help us break into the top 4 unless we’re going to get two penalties every game.

I’m going to use my most used word of this season, woeful. Absolutely no desire to win that game, we were outplayed in every position, including a 17yr old. After Ramsdale made the three saves we caved in and lost all hope. Our starting 11 should have had enough quality to win, but it didn’t, and looking to the bench gave me little hope of getting a goal never mind two. A lot has been said of crowds not being at games affecting the home teams this season, if we would have had a crowd there tonight, they would have slaughtered that performance and lack of desire. I’ve no idea where we go from here, I just hope Carlo does.

I can’t think why we would even consider selling the best aerial player in the PL if not Europe at present, we need to play to his strengths more, ie get to the byline and put crosses in that he can attack, that sort of play will blow the roof off Goodison and land on Bramley Moore.
