  1. Think of what you’re saying. Minorities/gay people have suffered through an inability to vote or to get married. They’ve dealt with discrimination and violence vastly disproportionate to other groups. To say we shouldn’t focus on addressing that because “all lives matter” is baffling. It’s like saying a doctor shouldn’t treat your broken arm because you have other parts of your body as well. You focus the attention on the area that is hurting. The area that needs help.
  2. Pound for pound this Gana thread may be the most interesting one we’ve have over the years.
  3. I agree it’s wrong for him to be forced to wear it or sit if that is what happened there.
  4. Nuance is dying in general. As if you can’t think “all lives matter” and still support a specific cause.
  5. It is a right wing talking point, at least where I live. It’s also dumb. Most everyone agrees “All lives matter”. I can only speak for how it’s used in my country but the intent is often for it to dismiss the grievances of the group in question. Police disproportionately arresting/shooting black people? Oh hey man all lives matter, this shouldn’t be a race thing. LGBTQ rights under assault? Why are we focusing on them? All lives matter! I understand the intent of saying hey we are all the same etc.. but when you use that reasoning to justify ignoring groups that have legitimate issues I find it ugly.
  6. I’m curious how you think PSG should have handled it other than just to never have a patch dealing with anything that is potentially political or touches on religion. I do think Gana should have been able to play without the patch. Overall I don’t think it’s a big deal. If he has an objection than that’s up to him. It is his right. If people think differently about him because of his views then that’s just life.
  7. Most people who are supporting rainbow lives, black lives etc.. aren’t saying that only those lives matter. They are drawing attention to historically persecuted groups and they have specific grievances. You don’t need to draw specific attention to groups that have not experienced that. Here in America in particular this idea that these movements and protests are to be discouraged because “All Lives Matter” is a common right wing talking point and an effort to deflect from the issues presented.
  8. Yea I mean, for me, it would be silly to expect all the players to feel the same way I do about these sorts of issues. There are certainly moral lines that would make me against signing a player but not wearing a patch because of your religious beliefs (however misguided I think they are) doesn’t rise to that level.
  9. I think if he’s making a point to not wear the shirt we can surmise he isn’t indifferent. I would disagree that promoting equality in a public way through various campaigns has no effect. Normalizing support does help in my opinion. I’d strongly disagree that all religions preach equality, particularly in this area. A lot of religious objections to these people are coming straight from the text. There are places in this world where homosexuality and the like may be a death sentence and that is fueled in most cases by religious fervor. In any case this is a deeper discussion. I don’t like Gana’s stance personally but I expect I’d feel similarly with other players of ours if I knew all their political/religious leanings. I would not object to his return if he can do a job for the club
  10. A googling shows he was in something like 5700 there and tied for being their lowest paid player. Probably just whatever his initial contract was. This move will make him 10x on his last wages at least so I’d expect him to be quite the happy fella on arrival.
  11. This is demonstrably untrue. He had multiple team of the year type seasons. He was also our best attacking threat when he was here. Being “worth” the money depends on how you look at it. Insane wages but given his status as one of the most popular athletes on the planet I expect we gained far more than his salary in exposure for our brand.
  12. The point is that 70k isn’t exorbitant relative to the league or our team. He’d be well below average for a 1st team starter. Your issue seems to be with Premier League salaries in general.
  13. I suppose but if it’s a good player who has several loan options then an assurance he’s going to play a lot is going to be a factor. Though I agree that an outright guarantee is silly.
  14. There are probably 200+ players in the league that make that. He’s 22 with good experience in the league. Even we have 8-10 players who make that or more.
  15. Tarkowski is a workhorse as well. I imagine that’s been a factor.
  16. Shouldn’t be a guarantee but particularly in a loan situation the parent club and the player are going to want to go to a place where he has the best chance of regular game time
  17. I saw an analysis that said he took shots from farther out than any other premier league player with a decent volume. Average of 22 yards. I expect that’ll be something Frank works on. I don’t actually mind it in a young player. He’s not afraid to take a chance and try to make something happen at least. I’d rather work that than someone who is just going to pass it sideways in the attacking 3rd
  18. I agree he’s about 7/10. Which would make it a solid deal for us for that price. At his age and being coached by Frank maybe he can get to 8/10 which would make it an excellent signing.
  19. To be fair Gordon does have no end product at this point but I imagine if we signed him for 15m or whatever almost everyone would love it.
  20. I thought he was more like 24,25. One would have to assume his best football is ahead of him, particular under Frank’s tutelage.
  21. I’m less worried about the raw numbers at his age since he still has plenty of time to improve anyhow. The one thing that is certain is that he’s an excellent dribbler. I wonder where Frank sees him positionally or is he a bit of a Swiss Army knife for us in attack.
  22. Looking in the other thread reports are we might still be trying to sign him. Though seems less likely (and less urgent for us).
  23. Who can know. Maybe Cornet was a first choice and we knew we could get McNeil if that didn’t work out. Maybe McNeil was preferred all along. *shrug*. I’m going to have high for any attacker who comes in under Frank. He should be able to get more out of them than most and there will be a real excitement for them to be coached by him.
  24. Something I haven’t seen mentioned too much here is his age and ability to play some different positions. The versatility is good given our financial constraints and the age suggests there might be more to come from him. Certainly if Frank can get that same bit of improvement he has gotten from Iwobi we’d have a quality player there. It’ll be nice to have someone who can really dribble
