  1. LIV would never work for us as a shirt sponsor
  2. Because creating your own shot in a 1v1 and shooting from distance are part of being a striker. It’s been years now. If he’s not getting in that position over several managers I think we can say that it’s not an effective part of his game. Also, he does sometimes get the ball in those areas. He just does nothing with it which is why it’s not something you’re likely to remember. It’s unreasonable to think that’s in his locker all these years he’s just not been given a chance. He’s now played in 190 games for us. How many more would it take to convince you that he has those limitations? He can be a good striker perfecting what he’s already good at but he’s never going to be at the top of the game without that other gear. Look at Lukaku for us. Not a great footballer and described as “lazy” by a big portion of our supporters. Like Dom he was physical, could get on the end of things and was excellent in the air. The difference was he could use his attributes to create space for himself and take defenders on. He was dangerous with the ball at his feet from 30 yards. Dom isn’t. Which is why his best has been 16 and Rom scored 25 before he left.
  3. Probably depends on how we start. At some point (as you know) you have to do the thing that gets you points, no matter how you’d prefer to play. I think it will be a couple years before we really see how he wants his team to look, assuming he is still at the helm.
  4. What Is the scale actually for here? Is it raw numbers, a % or just a rating like in FIFA? How does it compare to the league averages for a defender? This needs more context.
  5. Hope so. Sort of young talent we should be gambling on.
  6. It’s a shame as he’s matured as a player the last couple years and been our best central defender comfortably.
  7. I wonder how much of this is down to just being a big, heavy player by football standards. You see it in a lot of other sports where the bigger players tend to struggle more with injury and have shorter careers.
  8. Your argument is that he shouldn’t be judged for not ever beating a man or scoring from any distance because he’s not ever in a position to do so? I think that proves my point. He’s not dangerous in those situations so instead he just gets in the box and waits for a cross or for something to fall to him. When he does get the ball 25 yards out he’s not dangerous with it he just passes it to someone else or tries something that doesn’t come off. Those are more difficult examples to find as they don’t tend to make a highlight video but anyone who watches the games will know it’s true. Plenty of strikers score on crosses and tap-ins and also are a threat in other areas. Hell, Rondon was more dangerous than Dom with the ball at his feet from any distance. Gray, Richie, Gordon, Townsend etc.. are all better in that situation and I wouldn’t say any of them are elite finishers. I’m not against Dom. He has some good attributes and does well with lots of service. He’s just never going to be a top guy because of his limitations. Maybe that improves but at 25 I’m not sure you just suddenly become Mo Salah. I expect he will continue to be a solid premier league striker for quite a while but his goals will continue to come from close in. My worry is that he is just barely good enough and still young enough to keep us from seriously looking for a better talent in that position.
  9. Right and we aren’t in a position where we will get a finished product. Gonna be a cast-off, or someone young that comes good for us at this point.
  10. I took it to mean beating a player but it’s a distinction that doesn’t matter to much as he doesn’t do this. If Dom gets the ball 20 or 30 yards from goal in a 1 v 1 I’m not thinking about how he’s going to score or even get a good shot off, I’m looking to see if anyone else is making a run so he can pass it.
  11. We’ve watched different games I guess. Richie drives at defenders and creates opportunities pretty regularly. Highlights are not usually a good way to prove a point but in this case I think they do. He’s not a great decision maker in the final 1/3 for sure but we’ve had games where we just play it to Richie on the wing and he makes something happen several times a game. This isn’t a feature of Dom’s game at all. He does not create space for himself. This isn’t a striker issue it’s a Dominic issue. All the best strikers in the league have the ability to drop a shoulder and get a good shot off or to drive past a player. Lukaku had this in abundance. Salah, Kane, Ronaldo, Vardy etc.. Dom has never had that at this level. I just watched all his goals from two seasons ago, his best season by far. Every goal came from around the penalty spot area or closer and ZERO of them were him getting his own shot. Not 1. Half of them were from inside the 6 yard box. He’s great in the air and has learned to be a good gambler in the box. Lots of his goals are tap-ins when someone sends it across the frame . It’s a valuable attribute to know where to be but he’s always going to be capped in how good he can be if he doesn’t have the component we are discussing. Not for nothing but he’s also stolen a Richie goal that was headed in both of the last two seasons from about a foot out.
  12. Right. He can have a very productive career as a striker in the right sort of setup with the attributes he has. He’s just not Harry Kane. I’ve always thought he’d do well with a striker partner as that would give him more space to get his shot off and getting that attention on a cross would open things up for others.
  13. Must mean he is a relative of Dennis whose signing must be imminent.
  14. DCL has not shown he’s more than a poacher with decent hold up play. He just hasn’t. I’m not sure why you would say he is better than Richie in 1 v 1’s and then use the fact that he used to be a wide player years ago as support for this. Richie is a wide player at the Premier League level..Dom isn’t. He is not a player who beats people individually to get his own shot or create a chance often. Richie does that far more. Has Dom ever even had a threatening chance from outside the box? Has he ever beaten a man and then driven in on goal to create a great opportunity? It’s rare, at best. His average shot comes from about 5 yards out. He’s all the way an aerial player and a poacher. He’s good at it and it can be effective if he gets the service but without it he’s pretty limited as we’ve seen for long stretches.
  15. Also getting Myko, Seamus/Patterson to put in crosses. I’d like to be wrong but I don’t see a season of great opportunity ahead for Dom.
  16. Haha. I understand. I just think there isn’t a ton you can do with our shirt so I like when they try to punch it up a bit. Do we know if the badge is sewn in?
  17. Yea. I’m just curious if we will ever know. Could be a lot of things.
  18. I wonder if we will ever know why this fell through. Moshiri has made plenty of mistakes but I don’t doubt that he wants us to be a success and especially that he wants to deliver the stadium without issue.
  19. Uh..Patto, the person I quoted. I would have though this was self evident. It was a tongue-in-cheek response about the general habit of some Evertonians to find fault in everything. If you felt personally attacked by this then I’m not sure what to tell ya
  20. My comment wasn’t directed at you. Though your defensiveness makes me wonder if it should have been… My point was just that we are a group where a high percentage are going to complain no matter what we do. Kits, managers, transfers…
  21. It’s almost as if no matter what we do 30% of supporters (at a minimum) will complain.
  22. Could be a million things. Maybe he is still on holiday. Maybe they are having lunch. Maybe it has something to do with the takeover. It really doesn’t matter as long as he’s in by the time training starts. Patience.
