Agreed all unknowns at the moment and that's if he does sign but I really can't see him being on anymore than £20k max well I hope not.

Things could just click under Martinez, Coleman and Vic could keep getting better, Jellavic could start scoring, Baines might stay and have a great season with Pienaar, hell! the players might just enjoy a fresh approach.

Other teams might just slip up a tad.

Just wish the new man well and hold your nerve, that's what we did with Moyes.

I think people are over reacting slightly on this and some far too much.

I fully agree that anything over £4/5m is excessive not due to ability purely due to his age but that said if He can score 15+ a season then his fee would be fully justified.

If we had Him last season there would be a good chance we would be playing some form of European football this coming season as we all know we've missed some great chances and should have been far more prolific upfront.

The one thing you will get with Kone is a decent instinctive goal scorer if you watched him last season he not only scored a few but created space and chances for others as he is a handfull.

When we are on form we create chance after chance and if this guy was in or around the box last season he'd have thieved on the service and I'm pretty confident he'd have scored a fair few.

Not at a great age but still has ability and a few seasons left in him if he stays free from injury and although I won't be ecstatic I'll be fairly happy knowing we have a bloke who will convert chances work hard for the team and he knows the league and regardless of age will cause teams problems...

I'll give him my full support and be pretty confident he'd prove a fair few wrong.

He scored 15 goals for Levante, who finished sixth in Spain last season, btw. I'm guessing if we would have bought him from them in stead of from Wigan people might be more excited.

as Ten is rightly saying, its not good financially. But its just dawned on me, we are no longer in the same financial situation. For now at least, we are not going to be a "selling club" (always hated that phrase because every club is a selling club) so its not necessary to buy young potential in the hopes we can sell them on for 3 times the value, which would certainly have been the thinking with some of our buys.

So, we can take on these 2 older players and let them either shine under a manager they know or they can flop. The financial risk of them flopping is still there, but will not have the same impact as it wouldve 3 years ago. So long as any other signings dont go in the same way, this might keep me content. 2 more additions with these 2 (depth and a marquee signing) and I'll be happier (so long as we dont lose anyone)

Age of our squad is all i seem to hear, villa had the youngest team last season and nearly got relegated.
We have Duffy, Oviedo, Barkley, Stones, and four others who went to the under 20s competition, give the manager the chance to bring them along and introduce them over the season, the age of our squad will soon look a lot better.

I don't agree with that at all Jay.

He might not be the right age for us, or even the right signing, but the guy is clearly a very good player who would improve any squad. We can debate the ifs and buts all day long, but let's not start attacking the player himself, as that's just wrong.

12 league goals isnt so bad in a team that went down. If he scored three more and got into the 15 goal bracket he would have been right up the goal scorers list.
If we buy him we buy him, let him prove himself.

I can remember people going mad at Moyes wanting to buy Distin 4 years ago when he was 31, he's 35 now and has been a very solid defender and well worth the money.

If we get 15 goals a season out of Kone for the next four seasons he will be an excellent signing. Why not give him a chance and wait to see what happens. It seems like he and Martinez have been found guilty without a fair trial, lot of people on here behaving like a lynch mob.

Why make such a idiotic thread, you say I don't want it to be a "you're not giving him a chance thread" well what do you expect. You're not giving him a chance. Flipping heck there hasn't even been a pre season game yet and you are saying he is not good enough and that he won't last.

Lets look at the differences between Wigan and Everton:
    1) Wigan cannot attract the same players we can.
    2) Wigan defence was weak. Martinez knew that and signed Scharner in the summer transfer window. He kept having a few problems with injuries. They also signed Ramis for 5mil but he got injured half way through the season, January I think and has only come back from injury quite recently. 30th June I think. That is 5 months without his experience. To be honest I don't think they had a lot of money to buy anyone else in January anyway.
    3) Wigan have not got a strong as a team as what we have. Martinez would have loved to of had players like Mirallas, Fellaini, Baines, Jags etc.
    5) You're a pessimist simples.

    Few questions for you memmaclub.
Were you one of the people who were wanting Moyes out?

(Because he didnt win trophies etc, lets face facts here where a football team who can't compete on a finacial scale to the likes of Spurs, Chelsea, City, United, Arsenal and even Liverpool. Where not going to be competing for top 4 football each season. We are close with the squad we have but yes we do need more players and with your comment about signing Alcaraz and Kone what is the problem with that? There is stats out there which show that the team played better and conceeded less when Alcaraz was playing. (Don't have the link but sure someone does)

Kone - 6mil. A bit over priced not going to lie about that but again do you think we could get someone like Pauliniho who has signed for Spurs? No we can't. Kone scored 13 league goals for Wigan last year. Jelavic scored 7, Fellaini scored 12. With Baines, Pienaar and Mirallas cutting in the box, crossing it in then he is bound to score that amount or even more.

Who would you of wanted to manage Everton? (If Martinez wasn't our manager)

By any chance was it Porto manager or Laudrup?
No to the Porto manager as he has had no experience in the PL. Also anyone could have won the league with the players he had at his expence. They didn't exactly win the league like United won the PL was it? It came down to the second to last game where Porto needed to win against Benfica to go ahead. If they drew they wouldn't of won. Benfica made a stupid mistake which cost them the second. Luck.

Laudrup has no ambitions, he will stay at a club and coast his way through until $hit hits the fan, watch what will happen when that does happen and trust me it will happen.

You cannot compare us to Wigan in any way, shape or form, do you honestly think we will do that bad with Martinez that he will be sacked in January?

No disrespect to Wigan fans I have loved the way you have played this year. I think everyone has been the neutral fan and I was cheering you on against Arsenal like a lot of people were but they haven't got the same resources we have simples.

Were you around when Moyes got appointed?

I was and everyone was nervous about this appointment because we had just signed a manager from Preston, pratically a nobody and look how that turned out he transformed our team into a competitive top 10 side even top 5 side.

I am nervous about the new season, heck I am nervous every season when it starts, like a lot of people are, it is part of what being a football fan is, the nerves, the highs and the lows and everything.

Even if we start badly I will still support our team and not want Martinez to be sacked. I mean we have had bad starts to the season before but Martinez will be manager by the end of the season and for more seasons to come. IMWT

What an absolute twat of a thread to start. I'll be critical as you like about things I'm able to be so based on facts, and I'll back them up and make them stand up. The worrying thing is you appear to be wanting to be proven right about something you have no clue about.

I'm sure some people spend more time behind their pc's following opinions rather than using their own mind to create their own. Martinez I think based on what I have seen will create a culture within the club of fearless expansive football. Will I be proven right? Yes I will and I look forward to memma holding his hands up at his premature negativity.

It's important to stay positive about things until proven otherwise, only then you can all try and outdo me for being such a miserable doom and gloom merchant.

If it was for around £2m then I'd be more than happy if we did bring Him in as he can score goals and is a slightly underrated player who could do a job but for £6m and 29 it's a no from me.

If we can bring in a better defender than Hietinga (based on last seasons form he cant be any worse) for free who is on a quarter of the Johnny's wage then sell Heitinga to free up transfer funds then its a no brainer for me

Haha was just about to post that you've gone off the monthly figure

Around £10.000 a week is peanuts in today's game and I very much doubt We could get many players in who know the league already on that kind of money.

Some are hung up on form, form is temporary. The major asset he would bring is raising awareness of the club in the Far East. Lee and Honda together at the same club would be incredible... They are South Korea and Japan's most prominent players.

Well worth a watch it's slightly different to the usual zombie flick and has some great 3D moments.

He made his league debut in the 2011/2012 season at the age of 17 Bailey from which He was quickly moved through the England youth set up from the under 17's through to the under 21's and also won young player of the year in his first professional season for Birmingham

He's only played two full seasons and in that time has improved, not to be rude but honestly have you actually watched many of Birmingham's games? to label him as not being an intelligent footballer is harsh and makes me wonder if you actually have seen much of him.

Don't get me wrong he's no footballing genius but name me many wingers that are? He's not a lynch pin creative midfielder his job is to beat players and create chances which for the most part he does.

People bang on about Anichebe being young enough to develop at bloody 25 years of age after years of failed improvement up until very recently and some where pleased with his performances out wide and we get linked with a decent young and cheap talent he gets wrote off even before any interest is even official....
