  1. Definitely. There are things you are taking away from each aspect of viewing the game. That's why I trust our scouting team; they watch the games in person and also go through the extensive footage of players that we are interested in as well.
  2. Fair play. I agree with you. I've never been to an Everton game unfortunately, but I have been to loads of matches in the States. I go home from the match all the time having one view of the performance, but then when I go back and look at replays from different angles, I realize just how much I can miss. My eyes don't have the benefit of rewinding what I'm seeing in the game, but my DVR does.
  3. I agree that the best squads are the ones that have a familiar set of starters and bench players, but I'm worried that Europa won't give us the funds(in the first year) to truly build the squad depth we need to compete on both fronts. I guess my main worry is that the consistent first team players might suffer in the league from fatigue or pick up an injury in a EL match, which is very likely to happen. If our league form suffers and we drop back to seventh, then we won't be in European competition at all. A club like Everton should always be in European competition, so there's my reasoning on why we should concentrate on the league. Hopefully, the additional revenue from Europa (although miniscule in comparison to CL) through time will help us add an additional 2-3 players each year. I definitely see where you are coming from though. I guess we could just win it every year to ensure that we are always competing in it -- I really think we could win it. That said, we're going to qualify for Champion's League, so this is all pointless anyway.
  4. My mouth is watering at the prospect of Roberto Firmino!
  5. This is where I'm worried. Welbeck can obviously play in the PL, but he comes from United. I'm always worried about signing players from the "Big 4" and now Man City because of wages.
  6. I don't hold any hard feelings towards Arteta. As far as acting like a dickhead towards when we played against him... well, I've definitely acted like a dickhead to my own friends in a lowly pick-up game when we've been on opposite sides. Hard tackle here, a shirt tug there; people don't like to be tested. Competition brings out the worst in people sometimes.
  7. I wouldn't mind him here. Everyone expects youngsters to be stars by the time they're they turn 20 now it seems. He's young, shows great potential, and if the price is right, why not? We aren't going to be able to buy any world-beaters. However, I do realize there are better options out there, but will we be able to get them, let alone Welbeck?
  8. Wow. I forget how little we paid for Gibson sometimes.
  9. It's not too terrible, even though I'm not a fan of the gold/auburn on top of the pink. Would rather the slash be blue with some additional blue trim around sleeves and/or collar.
  10. Oviedo: the definition of "Sin Miedo."
  11. God, I hope so. I love having big-name players in the EPL, but I'd be okay seeing Suarez leave Liverpool.
  12. I'm inclined to agree, besides the fact that I'm actually excited about Europe. I with you in thinking that fringe players should be given opportunites in Europa. I believe our fringe players are still just as good as most teams that will be competing. If we make further in the competition --when games are more spaced out -- we could start fielding more reliable players. I also think Liverpool wouldn't be where they are now if they had been in the Europa League. They are similar to us in that they don't have a lot of squad depth to depend on.
  13. I don't rate Cleverly at all, but if Martinez does, then I'm more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I honestly can't say I've ever had more confidence in a manager getting the best out of player like I have Martinez. All of our players this season have been useful in one way or another, bar the injured. Even Gueye got a goal when he came on in that one appearance in the cup.
  14. If true, I have a lot of sympathy for Moyes. No matter who big of a twat your manager is, you just don't do that; it's totally unprofessional. After reading all the speculation of a fallout between he and the players, I can't help but feel sorry for him. It sounds like the players never gave him a chance, even if his tactics were a bit outdated. I have a feeling that a lot of the players just really hated his fitness regimen (I've read reports about it being outdated). I've always heard Moyes' fitness training is one of the most grueling.
  15. I understand exactly what you are saying, but I believe that he's actually become less selfish recently -- even when he is being selfish, his movement disrupts defenses. I can just see him terrorizing the Southampton fullbacks. Honestly, Osman has been less consistent to me than Gerry. One thing that bothers me about Osman is how often he shoots from far out. He scores the occasional cracker, but he also wastes chances too. Osman seems to act better as a sub these days.
  16. Southampton 1 - 2 Everton Lukaku
  17. I'd honestly be surprised if MLS wanted him... for a player like Barry, he would need a "designated player" contract to cover his wages; most teams are only allotted 3 maximum. I get the NYFC-Man City link, but MLS brokers most of the deals, so ultimately, the final say on whether or not a player can join a club is decided by them. (See the problem with Edu joining the Union from Stoke City). Now I love Barry, and he is a fantastic player, but MLS isn't going to splurge on a player that isn't exactly "sexy" or an American player from abroad. Even though there is the Man City link, I just don't see it happening. Look at Henry, Nesta, Beckham, Ljungberg -- Cahill acts as an outlier for me, but he's still an exciting player to watch -- MLS is trying to bring in recognizable names to help build the reputation of the league. I guess it's not impossible, but Barry would have to take a significant decrease in pay(even though he'd be on a DP contract, I still doubt they would come close to matching his wages at city), and he's not the type of signing that excites fans, although he would definitely be a good signing. Just my two cents.
  18. Of course he goes down when we need him most, but I truly believe the McGeady and Gerry and more than capable of filling his void.
  19. I had no idea where Ipswich was before, but I knew exactly where they were talking about when I read "too fond of tractors." (My buddies refer to themselves as "Tractor Boys.")
  20. I was feeling a little sympathy for Moyes until I read those quotes again. Too big for Everton? Fuck off.
  21. Coleman -- Just never stops running that wing.
  22. Keep it up, boys! I would love to see a 4-0 scoreline.
  23. Everton 1 - 0 Man United Naismith
  24. I'm feeling sick about this match after the Crystal Palace match. I have my hopes on fourth still, so I'm going to be biting my nails throughout this entire game.
