MikeO
Jags doing well so far....Glenn Johnson the weak link in the back four. Gone missing once or twice and very nearly an own goal.
marcopaulo
from 606 'Phil Jagielka's defensive headers have been outstanding, shame Glen Johnson hasn't looked so confident at the back' Do you agree? nice to see he was a bit shaky against villa imo...johnson just is not a right back he doesn't look comfortable.. 2-0 now defoe again

Bailey
Jags looked very good last night. Won everything in the air and read the game superbly. It was also interesting to note that I didnt once see him hoof the ball up the field like he does for us... Smells like a Moyes tactic to me! MikeO
Nice to see Lescott not even on the bench. From established number three center back while at Everton (now Jag's spot surely) to number seven or eight. But he's got a decent bank balance and a comfy seat in the City dugout when they get their injured players back so I guess he's happy . holystove
In other EC qualifiers news : Bayern Munich defender Daniel Van Buyten lost the ball in his own box to Bayern Munich player Sweinsteiger, who passed it to Bayern Munich player Muller who passed it to Bayern Munich player Klose who scored. Conspiracy! and then he blamed Felli for giving him the ball in a tight spot.
MikeO
The Mirror... Phil Jagielka - 8 "Outstanding. Made a superb last-ditch challenge on Bojinov, read the game brilliantly on a night when he proved his credentials at this level." Phil McNulty on the BBC website... "Everton's Phil Jagielka barely put a foot wrong in central defence and enhanced his reputation in the absence of Terry and Rio Ferdinand." Telegraph... Phil Jagielka - 7 "Highly impressive on his first competitive international start. Used his pace to make one particularly eye-catching tackle to deny Valeri Bozhinov and was always a calming presence in central defence." Guardian... Phil Jagielka - 7 "Grew into the contest, his distribution improving and his judgment and pace in recovery at times impressive. There was one particularly eye-catching challenge to repel Bozhinov. This was encouraging."
Romey 1878
Hopefully he'll carry that over into the league because he's looked very shaky for us this season.

Jags positioning is generally spot on, you dont win the amount of headers he did on Friday without it. Dawson did however look a bit out of place, he was solid enough but he looked nervous IMO although I have seen him do the same thing at Spurs?! It will be interesting to see who Capello pairs him with against Switz, Cahill doesnt look international quality at all IMO and looked startled when he was on! Id be tempted to pair him back with Lescott, although it would be a risk knowing how little footy he has played especially at CB.

MikeO
Didn't see it but it seems Phil did OK again . Telegraph... Phil Jagielka 7 Switzerland hardly pose a limited attacking threat, but Jagielka again looked comfortable on the international stage and seems now to be first reserve at centre-back after John Terry and Rio Ferdinand. Mirror... Phil Jagielka Did really well again. Cleared up the danger on more than one occasion last night. Is showing promising signs of long England career.
