Does Dullest Summer Belong To Everton?

Recommended Posts

Is it just me that takes perverse pleasure from this?

I'm not saying I wouldn't like thigs to be different but it's a bit like Millwall ("everybody hates us we don't care").

While everyone acts like a patronising bastard pretending to feel sorry for us they're secretly thinking, "I wish our bunch of overpaid, expensively assembled mercenaries could finish as high as them/beat the "big" teams like they do...."

Love being an Evertonian...one thing it never is is dull :) .

we have to face facts, if we want to do any kind of business this summer, we will have to sell one of the main four :(

just a case of who, we are getting seriously left behind at the moment and are being embarrased by the likes of Sunderland(not saying i would want anyone they have signed, but you know what i mean)

how so? You mean other teams are spending stupid money on players who then dont finish above us like in the last 5 years?

no i mean other teams who are lesser teams than ourselves but seem to be doing business does'nt matter how much they pay for the players, we can't even get a down payment together for NZogbia, the club is a mess, and i don't honestly see how Bill can still call himself a true blue? how many years now is it he's been saying he's looking for investors, funds and whatever else? whatever happened to the fit and proper persons test? its clearly obvious the people in charge at Everton are not fit to run the club and do not know how to run a sports based business. i seriously think we will struggle next season, hope im proved wrong

Yet we finish in the top half of the table nearly every year for 11 years, 6 times in Europe and above these lesser teams...... The board are concentrating on getting us to balance the books before the UEFA rulings come in whilst at the same time not selling us to the likes of Yeung, Shinawatra, the Portsmouth "investors" for a quick fix.... Yeah, no idea what theyre doing.

I understand the frustration but aiming it at the board whilst theyre trying to stabilize us for the long term future is, in my opinion, daft. Im not getting into this argument again, I do it every year and it just winds me up.

Just wonder under what grounds Bill (or any of the board) would fail the "Fit and Proper" test  .

Firmly in Matt's camp here....but everyone already knows that and there's not much point in going over it again as you've both said :) .

I don't get particularly excited by Beckford either Si....but I've been very excited by some of the goals he's scored.

we are all fully aware that you are on BK's payroll Mike i just don't see how a club can be run with no money, but then Moyes seems to put up with it, so maybe the fans should ;)

If you seriously think the reason we're penny pinching is because they're trying to stabilize things in relation the upcoming UEFA regulations then you're kidding yourself.

We're penny pinching due to mis-management by this board and the previous board. We simply do not have the money to do anything any more - we've tapped out every reserve of credit we had available to us, we've sold every asset we possibly could other than Goodison Park, we've outsourced everything we can.

That's why we're having to sell playes and loan players out to free up a few pennies, not because of the UEFA regulations (which only matter if we're playing in europe anyway, which seems like a fanciful dream at this point tbh).

I don't think Kenwright is an evil man who wants to destroy this football club. What I do think is that he's just not very good and will destroy the club if things don't change.

was always more leaning towards matt's side of this argument but it's so depressing bein an everton fan in summer it's very hard not to listen to people like romey who make good points..

on the point of the article it annoyed me a bit cos it seems to go along with this idea that everton fans care more about liverpool fuckin it up than they do everton doin well

 A realist being defined as someone who agrees with you  .

Come on Pris, everyone is entitled to their opinions and I can more than see where Mike and Matt are coming from.

oh don't get me wrong i do see where they are coming from, but i just think we are heading for a very large fall at the moment, football is a game of opinions, and yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion i do agree

If the other clubs above us cant balance the books, Im assuming the place gets handed down a spot (though I dont know how that would work)? If thats the case, we need to be within the rules to qualify too. Even if its not for the UEFA thing, its still good sense to balance the books before you move forward.

Sadly, I'm with Romey on this one.

UEFA Fair Play doesn't really matter at this time because it doesn't kick in properly for three years..

Considering the size of debt it would surely take several years to balance without one of the aforementioned quick fixes?

Because the club trying to buy him have people under investigation for match fixing! You cant blame that on Bill!

But, Matt, they're not doing it through choice or good business sense, they're doing it because they have to because they've fucked up.

It is good sense to balance the books but lets not pat them on the back as if it was a masterstroke on their part.

Success is not finishing in the top half of a league of which we have spent the most years out of any other team.

I played indoor footy last night and we got beat, we had 4, they had 5. Did I come off the pitch consoling myself that we did better based on our situation? - that we had to work harder and the fact that we only lost by six goals was a moral victory? No, cos the other team were buzzing - they enjoyed passing it round and making us sweat. They enjoyed seeing goal after goal go in, and seeing us shouting and scrapping for the ball.

Am I going to be happy that we had 4 and did ok? No - I'm going to give a piece of my mind to the lad who didn't show up. Did he have an excuse not to play? Maybe - but that doesn't mean that it can happen again, if it does then we find a permanent replacement.

The same goes for our board.

how so? You mean other teams are spending stupid money on players who then dont finish above us like in the last 5 years?

Other teams are often spending silly money in replacing or adding to players who are not much better than what they already have - lessening the impact of their spending. Is Gibson or O'shea going to be a major improvement over cattermole? Is Charlie Adam that much better than Meireles? Is Ashley Young going to be any better than Nani? Has Pienaar shifted Aron Lennon?

We are talking about clear gulfs in ability versus what we have. Billy versus Nzogbia? for example is a prime example, we would be replacing a player who has no pace, can't beat a man, doesn't show any desire, hides, never gets balls in the box - with a direct, pacey, tricky winger who can set up goals and score them and is a dead ball specialist.

Up front is Beckford the consistent, deadly give him a chance and it's in the back of the net striker we badly need? Or is Saha going to give us 30 games? - or have villa wasted £24m on a proven goal scorer?

The 2-3 players we need, would make far more of a difference to us than any other team in our position, we have quality elsewhere. Sadly, under current circumstances it ain't gonna happen.

So.... brace yourself for the games where have 10 chances and lose 2-1, brace yourself for the games where we beat a top 4 team where the players where we need strength actually perform above their level(giving us a view of what could be if we had cash) - brace yourself for more "are we going to get relegated?" - "if we didn't have that poor run we could have been in europe" plus the usual "board out" topics

So what youre saying is that the other teams are spending lots of money but not really improving their team and then complaining that we are not spending money and not improving our team?

We are talking about clear gulfs in ability versus what we have. Billy versus Nzogbia? for example is a prime example ???, we would be replacing a player who has no pace, can't beat a man, doesn't show any desire, hides, never gets balls in the box - with a direct, pacey, tricky winger who can set up goals and score them and is a dead ball specialist.

Bily isnt a winger, not his fault he is played in the wrong position. Nzog has had how many sucessful seasons in EPL - comparing apples and sheep there. Nzog is a better winger by far, because he is a winger.

Up front is Beckford the consistent, deadly give him a chance and it's in the back of the net striker we badly need?

1st season he scored 10, matching a goal to game ratio along with the best.

Or is Saha going to give us 30 games? - or have villa wasted £24m on a proven goal scorer?

Whats that got to do with the argument?

This is being an Evertonian isnt it? Not saying I like it but its reality. The only people harping on about relegation are the crazies that swing with the media hype. In fact, I remember only 2 seasons where I was actually worried about relegation since BK took over, neither of them have been in the last several years. Prior to BK, relegation was a constant threat. Whether hes done a good job or not, we're not flirting with the brink each season now are we?
