Hi lads,

Big fan of your forums - congratulations to all involved.

My name is David Lyons and I am the editor of

www.NononsenseFootball.com

Your club's section on our website requires its Ultimate Legend!

We are asking all posters on these forums to vote for your club's

Ultimate Legend. The vote will occur right here over the next seven

days when we will collate the findings and add the name of your

official ultimate club legend to our website.

All the contributors to these forums have to do is post the name of

the person they feel is the club's biggest legend in its entire

history in this thread.

The ultimate legend will be a player or manager who has represented

the club at any stage throughout its existence.

I am very grateful for your cooperation to this project as we search

for your club icon that will be listed forever on our new website on

your club's homepage.

Please enter the name of the person you feel deserves the title as

your club's "Ultimate Legend" below.

Many thanks,

David

Claus Thomsen, Michael Milligan, Vinny Samways, Ian Durrant, The list is endless

Of course Dean would be most peoples choice, he was the greatest player we ever had, ever saw, the name requires no introduction, he was immense, most (outside of the club) couldn't even comprehend what a player he was, a soccer legend if ever there was one. But names that may have been considered, at least could have been Lawton, Sharp, Ball, Labone, Hickson, Ratcliffe, and Southall. Ok they weren't quite as big in stature as Dean, but many would remember them better or have them as a club favorite, and they all are, after all, club legends, each and every one. But Dean was the absolute biggest for it, so therefore he has to be the overall winner. But you can't leave out some names that were great club servants that at least deserved a mention.

Its all dependant on how old you may be. Some younger supporters will invariably go with names like Sharp, Southall, or even Ferguson while those with a little more memory may go with Ball, Labone or Young even. Can get a little conflicting sometimes between 'greatest player' as in overall ability, stature etc, and then you have merely in terms of a favorite player who you liked most to see play or remember.

I.e. Greatest player - William Dean, Favorite Player, Lawton or Sharp etc.

We all say Dean of course and recognize he was the greatest player the club ever saw, even though nobody can ever claim to having seen him play live, but even so, there was no-one ever with more stature or greatness at the club since then.

Everyone knows about Dean and rightly so!

Pehaps these don't qualify for the title 'ultimate'......but where would we be today without.

Howard Kendall.

The 80's squad....1984-85 the finest season in the history of Everton fc.

Graeme Stuart.

Kevin Campbell.

The last two names might be unknown to some, but they might not be on this site if it were not for Stuarts and Campbells goals.

Don't want to start a pointless thread, but as its pretty clear that this is a non contest, out of interest who is the second biggest, and should they have statue in honour of them?

Personally think Big Nev, but Ball and Kendall not far off. Then there's (Rubecula's pick) Young, Harvey, or Labone all worth a shout. Not far off, Lyons, Mercer, Mountfield, Reid, Royle, or Sharp. Also the modern players who bleed blue: Watson, Unsworth, Campbell, Ferguson, Weir, Stubbs, Cahill, Arteta, Hibbert, Howard, Osman, and Baines. Honourable mention to Li Tie and Straqualursi for effort.

Not a bad lot to pick from, if you look at last seasons champions they only have one stand out, Summerbee and he weren't even that good. Just shows how lucky we are to be chosen :)

Who was that cerebral degenerate posting those images around the pages earlier tonight ? FFS dry.png

In any event, if Dean was biggest in stature, then you can take your pick once again from Lawton, Hickson, Sagar, Vernon, Labone or Southall as next in line. It can be hard to choose a second or third place such was the caliber of players at our disposal over the years

You have to have a certain quality, or go some, to be an actual club legend, and some of the names mentioned thus far just don't make the grade I'm afraid, i.e. Unsworth, Hibbert (!), Howard or Mountfield for example. But it's all about different perspectives isn't it
