Matt Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 He had a decent season but is he really the best replacement? Not convinced. Quote
Romey 1878 Posted December 10, 2014 Author Report Posted December 10, 2014 He had a decent season but is he really the best replacement? Not convinced. And a 28 year old is hardly the long-term replacement for Howard they say we're looking for. Quote
Hafnia Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Got to say Goalkeepers are such a tough one to get right, Always tends to be a case of a promising keeper has to sit in the wings watching an experienced campaigner until they lose their reflexes and they get a chance - but usually they get a few years of being an understudy - need games and then go to a smaller club and prove themselves. Did we not put a buy back clause or "sell on" in this case? Stupid not to. From what i've seen of the lad I like him, big and commands his area. Matt 1 Quote
BoroBlue Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 And a 28 year old is hardly the long-term replacement for Howard they say we're looking for. We signed Tim Howard at 27 and he has been first choice for the past 8 seasons, 28 is a good age for a goalkeeper and at 4 million would be a very good buy imo Matt 1 Quote
Hafnia Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Big Nev never really became first choice keeper till 25-26. You get about 10 peak years from a keeper if lucky. Quote
Sibdane Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 I'd want an upgrade on Howard, and Ruddy is by no means an upgrade. Quote
markjazzbassist Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 I'd want an upgrade on Howard, and Ruddy is by no means an upgrade. agreed. my think is we have robles won the FA cup and looked great for wigan. RM needs to give him a chance the rest of the campaign, maybe he's the future, but don't sign someone and not give him a shot. Quote
c1982 Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Begovic would be my ideal choice but not sure we'd pay anywhere near what Stoke would ask. He's 27. Marshall is a good, solid keeper. He's 29 and an affordable replacement to Howard if/when he ends up in the MLS - old yes but not in keeping terms. Ruddy, I'd rank below both of these but not a bad option. Quote
