MikeO
Matt Slater @mattslaterbbc Wow, @philmcnulty's blue phone just rang (Z Cars theme) 2 say #efcin 4 Barnsley teen John Stones - a game of Stones vs #wafc
tzp7zy
Mate, I'm not complaining about a smaller move, I'm just a bit confused as to why we've moved for him. We have Coleman who is fairly young himself so why is this fella leaving a starting spot to come here? Bainsey didn't get a regular game for us for more than a season if memory serves, and we paid 6m for him. Seamus isn't old but he's 6 years older than this lad. thoward18
And still has the best part of a decade at the top in him (Seamus, that is)... I like Seamus but let's not pretend he's Roberto Carlos. If Stones turns out to be superior then Coleman can depart. Worst case, we have two solid options. Zoo
We've gone from Leroy Fer and Negrado to fucking Josh Stones. I'm slightly pissed off that we are spending precious deadline day time buying a right-back when we desperatly need an attacking midfielder and a striker. JoeQuince
Well, I can see a few reasons Stones is a good purchase. First, Coleman can't stay healthy when seeing regular action. Second, we're starting to get low on English players, and this helps our home grown ratio. Third, he could develop into a real talent, and hence an extra hot commodity, when you consider the prices other premiership clubs pay for English players. I think the point is, and I like Seamus, that it would be naive to think that there aren't better full backs out there and its the managers job to strengthen where he can. Romey 1878
I think the point is, and I like Seamus, that it would be naive to think that there aren't better full backs out there and its the managers job to strengthen where he can. Do you know what I care more about? Finishing in a European spot this season, not hoping that this Stones might displace Coleman in 3 years time. And finishing in a European spot this season will rely more on us getting a midfield enforcer and/or a striker in, not a future RB. So, if we bring Stones in as well as what we actually need then WAHOO! but if not then it's a massive let down. Hafnia
I don't have a problem with this. I know everton are well informed on younger talent - the chances are he's been on watch and they were waiting their time - Wigan striking maybe pushed things. The fee will be based on appearances etc and is unlikely to be costly up front. Bravo everton. Lowensda
