Bit confused about what Mirallas and Deulefeo's role is... surely 1-0'down at home is the time to change shape and attack with two wingers?

Naismith was the right choice of we we trying to keep the clean sheet, not when we need creativity to unlock them

Injury after injury with no depth in the squad to cover positions. A week to go with 4 million spent and only 2 new players.

    So excited for this season.

Have to admit...after watching Kone up close yesterday, I am really worried about our forward situation.
What if Lukaku does get hurt?
Ahhh got it....Dunc....put a shirt on mate.

Makes me laugh Barkley is the most over rated Everton player ever??!!!How the fuck is that worked out??? Has he won young player of the year or something???

Over rated is someone like gravesen or Tony cottee not a fuckin kid who has played less than less than 2 seasons worth of first team games and had a potential career ending injury as well as playing with clubs whose players admitted to not being anywhere near the same wavelength as.

Funny isn't it. Rom calls himself a complete striker, has played twice as many first team games as Ross, is hailed as the next drogba but if you criticise then we must remember he is just 21 - 22 and next year 23 no doubt.

Barkley owes us fuck all. If we sold him for £10m that would represent a 10m fold profit.

I just wish he had lukakus self belief, one player calls himself great, the other just doesn't realise how great he is.

This isn't a slight on Rom, it's just putting things into perspective. Hopefully Rom has a fab season and shuts me up

As for Barkley, just look at some of the stuff he's done... It's GENIUS. The goal against man city, the run against newcastle, the left foot strikes that make you think he is left footed. When the penny drops he will be up there with the very best.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, a large part of football is made up of opinions. 10 people can see the same game and have 10 different opinions on it.
My points were twofold, 1, that Barkley is a young talented lad that loves the club who had a difficult last season and needs us to support him rather than get on his back.

2, that to write him off as the most overhyped player ever to pull on an Everton shirt is ridiculous given some of the dross we have had to endure. His first season under Martinez he was a revelation. Second season he suffered for various reasons, and like any young player he is going to have ups and downs. The best way to get the best out of him imho (and no I don't have any experience!)is to allow him the freedom to develop without getting on his back.

The season hasn't started and I was a little passed off that one of our younger players is being slated and written off.

load of shite, Baines has had the performances that have proven him for that position.

Baines wouldn't get dropped unless he had a particularly bad run of games which doesn't happen too often for him. The best thing for Garbutt is that he gets a full season of proper competitive football that will really help him improve his game.

i don't see how anyone can see this as a negative, yes he's a good talent and could be useful to us this season but it's hardly like were playing some shite bag in the team while he sits on the bench.

I don't really see the thing with "favourites" in our side either, besides Barry I don't see anyone that played all that many games when they shouldn't have been last season. Team selection was erratic at times but all of the midfield got benched at some point last season and in defence there's little competition, Stones came through ahead of Distin while Coleman had no competition and Garbutt got games when Baines was injured.

Who should have been getting more games that wasn't?

Yeah that will be precisely why he turned down offers from several other Premier League clubs to sign a new contract

It's because he's proven that he's likely to play every game by being the best left back in England - certainly at our club. By loaning Garbutt out having signed a long term deal gives us the best of both worlds. Why didn't Courtios sit on the bench rather than go on-loan to Atletico for 2 seasons?

Oviedo isn't necessarily ahead of him. The fact is that Baines is the best left back in England maybe the league - he should play every game. Baines is at an age where he may decline in the next couple of years and in Garbutt we have potentially the perfect successor. We just need Garbutt to get some essential experience and play every week which he is good enough to do. Oviedo is decent back-up and he adds the bonus of being quite versatile as he's comfortable on either wing. If Oviedo sticks about long enough then he'll probably be Garbutt's back-up too!

Pato or Kone? Pato or Kone? Pato or Kone? Pato or Kone? Pate or Kone? Hmmmm.....
Edit: just noticed the typo but i'm not gonna correct it as I'd still rather have a piece of pate as a back up to Lukaku over Kone....

I'm going to be a MASSIVE cynic now...but does anyone get the impression that our Transfer Window, whatever happens with players coming in (if no more do especially), our 'business' approach, will be lauded for keeping Stones beyond the Window?

Say we don't get ANYONE of note in (which were promised before the season ended) and we get to keep John for the season, do you get the impression that the lack of dealings will be papered over, due to the fact we kept him?

I can see the headlines. RM: "The best business we could have ever wished for the window, was keeping John at Everton." BK: "We proved we're no push overs, we just kept hold of a promising player" etc?

Massive cynic but i've seen it before.

I am desperate to see some new faces. Decent players coming into the club. I think we've missed most of our targets.

in what sense? Money? yeah sure but as Martin Sheen said in wall street:- "What you see is a man who never measured a man's success by the size of his wallet."

If Roman left and Chelsea got relegated and went to divison 2 lets just say in the way Man City did, how many fans do you think would go the game? I'd guess 10,000-15,000.

If we went to division 2 we would get 25,000+ in the way Man City did.

You see that the beautiful thing about being an Evertonian, the fans behave in a reverse manner. When the chips are down we stand together. I have been more motivated to go to the games when "the side needs us" - when we are struggling and when the team needs the 12th man.

We aren't the sort to stand taking selfies when Barcelona are in town (not that we have had that opportunity)

People like Mourinho seem to forget what makes a club big and this is why I am falling out of love with the game.
