Can I just say that if Mourinho passes wind it could actually just be a fart and not a clever mind game. Thanks.

The young lad Shaw at Southampton is destined for better things. I am still not convinced Baines will leave in January

I like Holloway and if I was Championship team with half a chance of promotion I would probably appoint him now - although he seems so have lost his mojo <or had it sucked out of him>

Those two stunning goals on Monday night would have knocked the heart out of most teams - never mind an under-cooked bunch of strangers, missing their two best players and finding their feet in a league where any error or weaknesss is generally punished.

Fair play to the chairman for saying he was quite prepared to go down with Holloway in charge, knowing their chances of coming back up were good. That's the way it has to be for most of the promoted clubs until they can establish themselves a la West Brom.

Fair play to Holloway too for admitting he tried to change things too quickly.

The wee man looks burnt out. Bit of punditry beckons before he gets back in the saddle.

Agree on Kone. Game of inches isn't it?. I have a feeling when this chap finally notches it is going to be an important one at it will kick start his season.

Not much between them now I feel. Baines puts in some tremendous blocks inside the box. I remember one from the away game at Newcastle a couple of seasons ago < a 2-1 win I think>. I recall saying to myself "Self, How did he get to that?" Tough choice for the manger. Cole probably will get the nod.

Fingers crossed. I'd rather play them without Fang.

Agreed. Some whoppers on another board used to say James Vaughan was "Injury prone". Having knee trouble, a dislocated shoulder and a hole in your shin is simply bad luck. Injury prone is the likes of Anderton, Giggs and Owen.

    Shame for GIbson.

weebittight got a reaction from Sibdane in Tony Hibbert - will he figure again?
Too young to retire but he is a throw back <old-fashioned > full back who needed upgrading long before Martinez darkened the doors of GP. I want to hug him for his tenacity < an kill him for his shanked of floaty crosses that led to nothing>. A promotion chasing team could do worse than employ Hibbert.

He is the top man/best coach for me. Tweaked a few things that will make Bayern even better I think. Reacted positively to criticism from ex Bayern players <who are always ready with an opinion> instead of taking the hump.

Seems he took the year out partly because Mourinho had dragged things into the gutter towards the end of his time with Barca and added to his burn out. United should have done everything they could do get this chap. Perhaps they did.

I believe Sunderland pulled the plug on Martin O'Neill too quickly. I have no doubt he would have kept them up. The players were complaining that he gave them too many days off but when they had it the other way with Mussolini the same ******* were moaning again.

Di Canio is a sandwich short of a picnic. Him standing in front of the mackem faithfull last Saturday gesturing and pouting was Mourihoesque and embarrassing.

I kind of like Gus Poyet but that gig is a poison challice.

weebittight got a reaction from markjazzbassist in Will Roberto help us win a trophy?
We should have won one last season - but Moyes was out-coached at Goodison by someone. You need a lot of luck but a lot of people might see us as a good bet for one of the domestic knock out trophies. The reality is they are the only things we are seriously competing for other than 6th place < which you cannot parade on an open top bus>

I know people who massively undervalue the League Cup - but I think winning something gives the club a lift - not to mention a European berth.

Birmingham, Portsmouth and Wigan were going to be in the dogfight. A better example is Swansea. Their cup run did not effect their season and they have just heaped more glory on themselves by a. matching The Shite on Monday and b. winning at The Mestia last night.

Wigan returned to London a few days after their Cup triumph and gave Arsenal a game for over an hour. As pointed out by Hafnia thier season was devastated by injuries to key players - a couple of whom even missed the win over City. We have a much stronger squad than Wigan did.

A good appointment. I also met him one day in a sweet shop in Lymm, Chesire. He was stood next to me in line at the counter. I froze and didn't speak to him. He probably appreciated that in hindsight.

He cannot do the things Pienaar can when he is out wide but he has a habbit of popping up with a goal. The boy is so obviously a second striker Full marks for the shift he put in and for being Johnny on the spot for his goal.

weebittight got a reaction from Matt in Martinez won't last the season
That is very disappointing to hear. Hopefully the Martinez plan for this season's trip to Anfiled is to have a go at winning.

I made the point earlier in the week but it bares repeating. Moyes always talked a lot about what we didn't have. Accentuating the positive seems to be a strong point with RM - which I find refreshing

Never fancied him. One of the worst players to have played in a World Cup final. Lot of fist pumping masked some very ordinary performances. I will concede he did have one good prolonged spell in his time with us. An upturned jug ratlled with a stick that's him - lot of noise very little substance.

I get the feeling a lot of punters have already made their minds up about Martinez - probably the same ones who did not want him in the first place.I hope he is given realistic targets and the time he needs to achieve them.

We should have won the first two league games but sometimes the ball breaks favourably for the opposition or a keeper has a blinder. Do we look like a decent Premier League team? Do we have several good youngsters in the squad? I say yes to both. What we lack is glaringly obvious - and we do not have the funds to address it.
