35 too much for Koulibaly, bit 20 for Zouma is a steal. I’m lost with football now haha.

Possibly the best CB in the world for a bit more than a player who the top four are willing to let go to find first team football.

I would rather spend 20m somewhere else and keep the CBs we have, who aren’t far from his level.

A bit of artistic license with the phrase "best CB in the world".

  2. No way this guy (back on topic) should cost 25M or more. If Varane is going for £34M. Yes Varane is likely on 200k a week but the club still accepted that fee so they can address their finances. Same goes for Lengelet. The highest end of the market has been set and our targets should be lower...if we decide we are in for a CB that is.

Matt the season before he arrived we were mid 70% he took it to mid 80% in his first season 18/19 which is what that season shows  And it would have been so much worse if not for some dubious accounting from Moshiri and Usmanov, no problem with that all the big clubs are at one way or another, my problem with Brands is that he has spent massively since he arrived and stuck players on wages that have been unheard of at Everton even Walsh’s signings bar Gylfi weren’t getting anywhere near what Brands signings are getting, that’s why our wages are the on % the worst in the league I dread to think what 19/20 and 20/21 are. But read something earlier that our latest signings are due to the fact we are struggling to stay within FFP. Another big bug bear of mine is that when he signed him and Moshiri said his main role was to get us back on a better financial footing when it came to wages, in 3 years he’s achieved completely the opposite, and what’s disappointing is we haven’t seen much improvement in the team.

I'm pretty sure the 77% ratio delivered by Walsh the year prior was boosted by the Lukaku sale which would have counted as turnover.  Maybe we will sell Richarlison for a similar figure and Brands can have a better ratio!!!

The reality is we won't be able to use any balance sheet data reliably because Covid has screwed it up...which is why all the data/stats quoted are stopping at 2018/2019.

I'll drop there as I do think we genuinely agree that brands could be doing better but isn't solely to blame and we also agree that while moshri has improved the balance sheet he has totally screwed up managerial appointments.

With really seen the difference that has made to our league position in the last 3 years, Zouma isn’t here Mina is always injured Gomes and Digne had one decent season the latter looks like he could be on his way sadly I love Gomes but he’s struggling. Delph Iwobi Bernard and Tosun seem to have slipped your mind, also you missed out probably his best signing since he arrived Godfrey and he’s not on silly money, our wages are going to hold us back next season we have far to many players hitting over 100k+ sanctioned by him which cannot be denied no matter how much slap your head.

The players having a great first season and then shit afterwards is evidence that brands bought the right players. The subsequent management of those players is what leads to inconsistency.

I'd love to see the evidence behind those "facts"

It’s true. Although there were only 3 teams below the 50% quoted. One (Cardiff) was relegated and another (Spurs) reached the Champions League Final and opened their new stadium which gave a massive income boost.

I don’t think anyone disagrees that we have made bad signings on high wages but I wouldn’t lay all of this at Brands door though. For that 18-19 season quoted we made 5 or 6 key signings that summer (brands 1st window in his role); Digne, Richarlison, Mina, Gomes and Bernard. Most were above 100k a week and have been successful. Gomes was a loan and Bernard a free. We must have shed a lot of wages this year through contracts expiring and possibly Gomes/Bernard leaving.

For me the jury is out but he has only been here 3 years. We were just hoping for a magic transformation ala Man City which hasn't happened.

  6. I think wages and transfer fees in general went up. So whether we had a DOF or not we would probably have spent the most amount of money on wages in our history.

According to Sportrac we spent the 6th most on wages / 4th most on transfer fees the year before Brands was appointed. Last year we spent the 8th most on wages.

Can’t argue that what we are spending is not being spent wisely however!

  7. And the impact of COVID. Not on us financially (although prob some impact there) more about how FPP is based on income vs. Outgoings over a 3 year period. Not sure how many of our players took pay cuts but our income would’ve been down both in terms of match day as well as TV revenue. I think FPP was adjusted for COVID so it takes 4 years not 3.

Turns out the rich owner we all wished for brought us nothing different than what we already had.  Moshiri will be a winner because of Bramley Moore, sadly he still has a ton of work to do on the pitch to be revered.

while moshri hasn't taken us to the promised land we had hoped for, to say that we don't have anything better than what we had before is laughable.

  9. Sharing my story from the Philippines.

I think we are the only county in the world who still has kids locked in the house. 18 months. I get the whole need be safe and we've had masks/shields mandated everywhere since March 2020 but locking kids in for 18 months has generational impacts across most age groups.

the vaccine % here is now only about 10% (1 dose) all because the President didn't want to buy vaccines upfront before they were manufactured so big pharma said fine place your orders early 2021...back of the queue.

    Sorry state of world affairs.

hope you and the family are safe haf. Me/Wife and 5yr old all caught it in March. No hospitalisation thankfully.

  10. I think the owner is allowed to put more money into the club to reduce the net losses - I know there is a cap and it is proportional, but they are allowed to do that I believe. I also think you are allow to improve the income side of the equation with advertising...so maybe the new stadium gets a shiny new Russian name a lot sooner than we expect. He has first rights on it I think.

"The signing will depend on Everton obtaining a work permit" - oh joy! I so love Everton's work permit sagas. I look forward to us spending the next 2 years trying to register this guy only to then send him on loan for another 4 years once we've managed it.

And this was before we gave the middle finger to Europe...gonna be easy getting a work permit now.....not! Surely to get a work permit you have to prove you are providing a value/skills that can't be obtained in the local market...maybe that isn't how it works.

Sad thing is he could have left in January but we blocked the move and he didn’t play (1-2 apps?).  Makes no sense why he is still here.  Makes you wonder

What does it make you wonder? Ancelotti is even more clueless than we thought or is this Brands fault also?

  13. I thought the interview was solid. Though like others words are just words at this stage. You can certainly screw up an interview but not really get any credit as it's expected you will say the right things.

what was most telling for me was the high standards he will have for himself.

I also loved the way he said he knows something is missing and so did the senior players - he didn't say it directly but heart and fight seemed to be on his mind.

  14. I see this as a great move. Whenever you go into a new role (business or sport) you want to surround yourself with people you trust. This is even more critical if the company (team) you are joining is under performing.....If you know a guy you trust and can get results...you bring them in and use that as the foundation to build from.

having a rock star (albeit aging) at the back might even help bring Godfrey along even more, might even help calamity Yerry be consistent, might help holgate get his shit together.

Surely with a big name manager such as Rafa, all the world class players are lining up to sign with Everton.  Oh wait….I’m still shocked he was seen as a “big name”.  The transfer rumors speak for themselves.  The names we had with Carlo have all dried up and we are getting a former Newcastle player linked now.  Sadly I fear this will be another allardyce that takes years to clean up (hell we still have tosun!!).  Honestly not even sure if I’ll be along for moshiri coaching carousel at that point, I’m becoming despondent with this team

Fat lot of good it did us getting linked with a lot of supposed big names over the last 2 seasons. I think we can all lament on prior managers shite signings (Koeman - Bolaise?Sandro?, Martinez - Alcaraz? Kone?) but they've likely also had gems but as with life the bad overshadows the good.
