Cornish Steve got a reaction from markjazzbassist in Man City
I agree with one of the comments at the BBC website: Lukaku is a 45-minute striker. The last couple of games have revealed that, so give Kone the chance to shine for a complete half.

I've given my views on this before. If we let the betting industry spend many millions on sponsoring teams in the league, it won't be a surprise when we learn that games are fixed - with either players or refs paid off. Of course, no one can say that without the FA banning them, but it's so obvious. No matter what the impact financially, and for the integrity of the game, no betting company must be allowed to sponsor or otherwise finance football activities.

Absolutely, yes. This demands tolerance from everyone. While I would argue that we can expect everyone to be tolerant and treat everyone with respect and dignity, we cannot demand that everyone accept. There's a big difference between tolerance and acceptance.

I disagree. It would be saying that you refuse to support discrimination against gays - which is something quite different. It's not promoting anything; it's highlighting and trying to overcome discrimination.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Sibdane in Striker strategy
Following a season when he was one of the league's leading scorers. It's a bit different in his case because he's building a consistent record of scoring. And talk about hyperbole. I'm suggesting trading one of our older players to get this younger player - adding a little cash to reach the asking price.
As others have suggested, easier said than done - and maybe it's pie in the sky. Still, there's no harm in having a primary goal and falling back on alternatives if it doesn't work out. Shoot for the sky and sometimes you get there.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Matt in Can Haf please be Moyes?
Right now, as I look at my most recent post, the name assigned to my system-generated profile information (shown to the left of my post) is 'Bob Latchford'. Please please please could the name assigned sometime soon to Haf be David Moyes?

Who knows what the future holds!
- Everton could win a CL spot
- Chelsea could spend big-time for a striker in the winter transfer window
- Lukaku could blend so well with the Everton team that he wants to stay
- Lukaku could submit a formal transfer request
Yes, we have a strategy for bringing in new talent, and maybe paying smaller fees usually consistent with that strategy. However, I would have thought that building a younger team for the long haul has to be way up there in terms of priorities. In exceptional cases, why not spend 30m on an outstanding player - especially when trading an older player?

If anything, I suspect over time that he'll play a little deeper.

£20m for Baines in the winter transfer window plus £10m made during the summer's transfer dealings equals £30m for Lukaku.

No. I think ManU fit the bill quite nicely for a Sunderland bounce-back.

Cornish Steve got a reaction from Droobie in Baines
If, by Christmas, ManU are already out of the Champions League and in about 8th place in the league, and if Everton are in 3rd or 4th place, why would Baines want to leave? That's the best way to keep him at Everton: demonstrate success.

All three have new managers, and I think the media have forgotten how difficult transitions can be. It shows just how well we are doing, since we're also in a period of transition.

I respect any young person who puts their life in harm's way to protect my way of life. Maybe I'm biased, because my brother is a major in the army, but every soldier I know is someone worthy of respect.

Has anyone ever read the book entitled 'The Wisdom of Crowds'? It's full of amazing examples of pinpoint accuracy when the average of many estimates is used. So, here's the combined wisdom of this forum. We'll see at the end of the season how accurate these results are.
1) Manchester City
2) Chelsea
3) Arsenal
4) Manchester United
5) Tottenham

16) Newcastle
17) Cardiff
18) Hull
19) Sunderland
20) Crystal Palace
Everton to finish between 6th and 8th place.

But he wasn't, and we're ahead of ManU in the league standings.
