  1. According to BBC stats Sweden had 50% of their goal attempts 'on target'. England had 20%. (3).
  2. Do they serve Pimms and Spritzer's?
  3. Win by D/L. Both teams have had a win by D/L and both losers probably feel aggrieved. Pity the decider had to be subject to arithmetic.
  4. Shame, but a drawn series will be a fair result. If it stops raining and they get out again then England will have an advantage with the ball getting wet.
  5. My dentist is a professional, you wouldn't catch me going to an amateur, not where pain is involved. No matter how good the dentist is, he can't make the decision for you, you have to make it yourself.
  6. According to the paper today, Britain is the most tornado-struck country, for its size, in the world. Apparently, the epicentre is Berkshire. Having said that, I have lived in Berkshire for 40 years and never seen one - yet!
  7. What are we talking about here? I was just impressed that the Wirral appears to have got electricity.

An old manual has been found at the back of a cupboard in a Dublin second-hand book shop. The title is: IRISH DANCING Volume 2. WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR ARMS AND HANDS.
  9. Jones is slow, ponderous and not very good tactically. He is even worse at right back. I don't know what Clyne thought about being left on the bench for someone playing out of position, then, when they pulled Jones off put Henderson at right back. I agree with Haf about Hodgson. Don't rate him. Everything is safety first, keep possession and whatever you do don't lose.
  10. In those days they didn't dole them out like sweets either.
  11. The Duckworth/Lewis method was designed for the longer form of the game. I have long thought that it is not fit for purpose for the shorter forms of the game with some bizarre results ensuing. I saw the result of the Nottinghamshire v Warwickshire 20/20 game. Notts scored 149 Warwickshire scored 101 for 3 in 10.2 overs when rain stopped play. D/L quite rightly declared Warwick the winners but the result was ' won by 7 wickets'! What was that all about? D/L should be about calculating 'runs' not forecasting 'wickets'.
  12. MikeO, It doesn't get any slower. My eldest lad is 55 in a few months time.
  13. I came across a reference to this recently and it brought back memories. Back in the early 1940's in Liverpool, when I was six or seven years old, some of the older lads used to try and frighten us (and succeeded) with tales of Spring Heeled Jack. Records show that it started in 1837 in London but also in various parts of the country and reached Liverpool in 1888. Apparently, Spring Heeled Jack was seen by a large crowd on the roof of St Francis Xavier's church in Salisbury Street. He was also seen in Great Homer Street where, according to witnesses, he jumped from the ground onto the roofs of houses. I was interested in the St Francis Xavier item as when I researched my family history, I found that my great grandfather lived only a short distance of St Francis Xavier church. My grandfather would have been seven years old at the time of this incident. There is nothing in family folklore to say they were part of the crowd, in fact no one ever mentioned it other than the older lads. Don't know what it was all about, some 'experts' put it down to crowd hysteria and exaggerated reporting but there were large numbers of witnesses, particularly down in the south, including a troop of soldiers in Aldershot who fired shots at 'him'. I suppose it was the 'UFO's' of the day. I know we could have done with him going up for corners at Goodison!

Menu for Irish 5 course meal. - Four pints of Guinness - One baked potato (Seriously, that beats a lot of quality restaurants I've been in!)
  15. Copenhagen - it was named after the Duke of Wellington's horse wasn't it? Or was it the other way around?
  16. According to the Telegraph this morning, $750,000 dollars donated by FIFA and the Korean FA to the Haiti earthquake aid fund, was pocketed by Warner. Apparently, he asked Blatter for the money to be paid into his private bank account. The money was allegedly labelled 'personal use' and has not been accounted for. Wonder what Blatter's response to that will be? Warner is evil, they need to lock him up and throw away the key.
  17. NZ conceded only 8 extras in 50 overs. Hope England are just as disciplined.
  18. My plate is plastic. Got it done privately. Eating is the worst, if I am on my own I always take it out when I'm eating. Got to make a decision soon on whether to have the implant.
  19. When I played football a rough arsed centre forward elbowed me in the mouth. Knocked one of my front teeth slightly crooked. At the end of last year on having a check-up the dentist said that it was loose. The top had split away from the root. He took the top off and dug out the root. Since then I have had a plate for the replacement tooth. He said an implant will cost £2,300 and the procedure will take about 3 months. Don't fancy all the hassle but the plate is driving me up the wall, can't get used to it.
  20. I think the reason 10 has come out relatively quickly is to put right all the problems within 8. Saves them a lot of 'upgrade' time.
  21. The teams in the Womens World Cup are lucky. Blatter won't be attending as he would get arrested.
  22. Sorry to quote my own post but I don't often get something to brag about these days.
  23. Didn't know you lived next door.
  24. World football owes a very big 'thank you' to America. No names, but there are some European countries who, even if they'd had the evidence, wouldn't have done anything. By the way, did you know that France and Spain votes FOR Blatter?
