johnh got a reaction from Palfy in Difficult one this, but on balance feel the need to post it....
Good on yer Mike. Just stare at the camera, point a finger and say 'If I can do it, you can do it'. Then play Z cars. Sorted. As Palfy says, its a no brainer.

Her indoors said she wants some peace and quiet while she's cooking, so I took the batteries out of the smoke alarm.

Mike, my local team, Maidenhead United, played in the very first FA Cup competition to be played in 1871. In the first round, they had a local derby against Marlow and won 2 - 0. I think Royal Engineers won it that season. Thought about going to watch them, at home, this afternoon against Bromley, too hot! 34C. Incidentally, looking at the Bromley team, there are names that never appeared on a team sheet when I played:
Kizzi, Okoye, Klass, Mekki and Hackett-Fairchild.😁

johnh got a reaction from Matt in Brexit...
I agree on the Holystove issue. Even though I don't agree with all he says, his posts are always well thought out and valuable, because he does have an insight into how everything works in the EU. If UK goods exported to the EU are delayed because of technical issues, then those issues will have to be resolved. Which they will be in time. However, if UK goods are delayed due to the EU playing silly beggars, then there will be a massive boycott of EU goods into the UK. (at least 52%). I don't think this will ever happen with so many EU economies on the brink of recession.

johnh got a reaction from Palfy in Aston Villa (Away) Friday August 23rd
First half 63% possession not a single shot on target. If we don't bring a half decent striker in in the January window its mid-table for us at best. I can't believe Silva keeps picking DCL to start. We will be playing for 0 - 0 draws every game but hoping to pinch a 1 - 0 win.

I thought we'd brought in a striker? We have DCL and stats that are identical to last season. 70% possession and one shot on target.

Don't think any teams at that level pay very much Mark. More like pocket money. I think the only 'full-time' pro's are in the Conference league and even there, some teams (including my local team Maidenhead United) do not have any full-time pro's. Below the Conference there won't be any teams with full-time pro's.

What a guy and they were all so humble. I worked with a guy in the early 1960's and knew he'd been in the RAF during the war, but didn't know any more than that. I found out some years later that he had been in Spitfires in the Battle of Britain and was awarded the DFC. He never spoke about it. Wish I'd known, I could have shaken his hand and thanked him, which I suppose I should have done anyway.

Couple returned from holiday in Spain. Wife was disappointed because all the food was English and everyone spoke English. She said, 'next time we go on holiday I want to go somewhere where the food is crap and you can't understand what people say'. Husband has booked a fortnight in Scotland.

Politics comes a very poor second to what we share on here - lifetime supporters of Everton. Will make my day whenever I meet fellow Toffee's. Cornish Steve the only one so far. What a memorable day that was.
