I’m not commenting on the player at all. I’m commenting on your opinion that he’ll only sign a three year deal.

If there are clubs out there offering him a three year deal then he is worth a three year deal, that’s what the market dictates. If he isnt being offered three year deals then the market dictates he isn’t worth a three year deal. It’s not complicated, it’s how markets work.

Well, I don't want Everton to be the idiots who over-inflate prices like that. Rather see us spend the money wisely.

  2. Quote

Last year he gave up an attempt to take control of Arsenal, selling his 30 per cent stake in the club to his American rival shareholder — a decision that irks him. “If we had worked together, we would definitely have achieved so much more. But the time will come, you know, for more success and Arsenal’s fans will come back to the stadium.”

But Usmanov may have another option. His old partner Moshiri owns a majority of Everton FC. Would Usmanov like to join him there? “Yes. With great pleasure, if he asks,” he says. “I am thinking about my investment in this club . . . I cannot reject Arsenal. I will not leave them as a fan. But if I join Everton, then I will wear an Everton shirt, because I am a professional.

“They are going to build a new stadium. Why not the USM Arena? It is not obligatory for me to participate myself. I could just sponsor them.” A week after our meeting, Usmanov brokers a deal to bring Carlo Ancelotti, the former Real Madrid manager, to Everton.

“What is the remedy for love? New love,” he laughs. “If you think like a Muslim, who can have four wives, or a harem? . . . I love Arsenal, but I failed. What can I do? But I also believe Arsenal lost something without Usmanov.”

You are assuming he will only sign a three year contract. If it’s that bad bringing in a 32 year old then no club will offer a contract of that length, therefore he would have to sign a shorter deal.

Barry and Jags both served the club well in their 30s, Baines is doing so now. Nothing wrong with having good experienced pros in the team.

Why wouldn't he? Why would he settle for a shorter contract? This will be his last big contract. He wouldn't be moving to Everton to win trophies, that's for sure.

Is he really so good we can't get better and will he really improve the team that much?

It’s about a certain player to add to your team/squad. Like people have said it’s not about the re sale value it’s about the value. It’s about watching a class player that gives enjoyment to us as blues and can bring the younger players on.

We tried that with Walsh & Koeman. We are still paying I don't know how many millions to some of those players.

  5. That option would want at least a three year contract and wages would probably be around 100kpw. So this 32-year old would cost the club about 15 million in wages alone. And no-one would take a 34-year old off our hands even for free so he would see the contract out. Have we not learned anything from the other players the club doesn't need anymore but who can't be shifted because no-one else is as stupid?

  6. I still argue Silva was very unlucky this season. In the matches since he was sacked there have been so many situations that I was genuinely surprised they didn't go against us because I'm so used to it. It felt like under Silva every mistake by the defenders for instance lead to a goal. There have been mistakes after him as well but no goals.

We wouldn't have gotten 11 points from the last five matches with Silva for sure but on the other hand we should have had more points before the Liverpool game. Couple of ridiculous VAR decisions alone cost a lot. Silva did make mistakes, like the stupid high line against Liverpool but underlying numbers were sound. The team created more chances than it conceded in almost every match. That's what a manager can do in the end. He can't control if the defender makes a mistake or a striker can't finish (especially if it's not him who signed them).

  7. Sabitzer seems to be the random suggestion in your message. He scores about one in four which puts him the same ballpark with DCL. And I'd rather keep DCL.

Napoli is in the playoffs in the CL so I very much doubt they will sell two of their stars in January. And even if they did, Koulibaly in particular would have many other clubs to choose from. Ones that play in the CL every season.
