That's exactly the reasoning why Tosun and Walcott were signed. I'm pretty sure there would have been better players to be had for the 50 million spent on transfers plus around 200k per week on wages than those two.

Evans has left for Paderborn on a permanent transfer.

So you would have said no to Beardsley and Watson?

Think he had three available midfielders and the third was Schneiderlin.

Well, you have to take deprecation into account in any business. If you as a business owner buy a machine you might consider it takes 5 years before you have to replace it. So 20% if its value is deprecated every year.
This is also what it says in Everton's financial statement:
Under FRS 102, the Club is required to
capitalise the cost of acquiring a player’s
    registration (transfer fee) and then
amortise it over the length of the player’s
    contract, effectively reducing the balance
sheet value of a player over that time.
No increase in the valuation of a player is
permitted until that player is sold and a
revised value is crystallised in the profit
and loss account through a one-off profit
    or loss on disposal.

Pete,  do you have some sources for that? I've read differently. For instance, home-grown players are worth nothing in the books as far as I know.

Player's value is very simply the price bought versus how long he has in his contract left. So for a 30 million pound player on a five year contract value drops by six million each year. And players who go beyond that original contract (sign a new one) are AFAIK considered to have no value. They don't really try to guess what players are worth in the accounts.

How many training sessions has Ancelotti had so far? Five? No wonder they haven't picked up the tactics yet.

That's still a fact of life unless you are owned by arabs or are called Real Madrid. Our turnover is half of Spurs's and even less against the other top teams. We will not buy better players than them if we just buy players at their prime.

That option would want at least a three year contract and wages would probably be around 100kpw. So this 32-year old would cost the club about 15 million in wages alone. And no-one would take a 34-year old off our hands even for free so he would see the contract out. Have we not learned anything from the other players the club doesn't need anymore but who can't be shifted because no-one else is as stupid?

I still argue Silva was very unlucky this season. In the matches since he was sacked there have been so many situations that I was genuinely surprised they didn't go against us because I'm so used to it. It felt like under Silva every mistake by the defenders for instance lead to a goal. There have been mistakes after him as well but no goals.
We wouldn't have gotten 11 points from the last five matches with Silva for sure but on the other hand we should have had more points before the Liverpool game. Couple of ridiculous VAR decisions alone cost a lot. Silva did make mistakes, like the stupid high line against Liverpool but underlying numbers were sound. The team created more chances than it conceded in almost every match. That's what a manager can do in the end. He can't control if the defender makes a mistake or a striker can't finish (especially if it's not him who signed them).

I would be very surprised if we went back for Zouma. There are now better alternatives, ones that actually can trap a ball and play under pressure.

DCL's scoring rate so far would put him at 19 goals over a season if he played every match.

They went on strike because of the owner, not Ancelotti. Koulibaly is still not coming, though.

It's very easy to test your own values: if that player was linked to Everton at that price would you think it's a fair asking price? If you think Everton should never pay that much for that player then why should anyone else?
