If we breezed through the first two rounds, we'd probably take is seriously. Otherwise, this cup is usually a distraction.

joel we all know you want to start but getting on an internet forum and bashing tim howard is not the way to do it. practice well and win your place on game day that way. also i don't think roberto would be happy if he found out you were on a fan forum.

hopefully it's true, a barkely replacement and another striker would be nice.

Badger1998 reacted to Planet Goodison in Europa League Watch
Just in case anyone was wondering who Everton should support in the Europa fixtures this afternoon, I put together a little information on the games and what it means for our upcoming group draw.

    Check it out at: http://planetgoodison.com/2014/08/europa-league-watch/

Basically we need some favorites to get beaten by underdogs to have the chance at Pot 2; a scenario which would give us a much easier group.

(Sorry if this looks like shameless self promotion for my blog, it kind of is, but this is more about the Europa League than anything else).

hiya Badger good to see you.

I support Everton and any team that plays without cheating or buying a trophy.

As for the word "soccer" it is just an abbreviation of "Association Football"

To be fair, up until last season I've been banging on about a new goalie for about 2 seasons prior but in Howards defence he had a good season last season, probably his best in an Everton shirt so deserves the gloves again this season.

Keepers do get better with age of that there is no question. That being said, I would swim all the way to the States with Howard on my back to swap him for Begavic (or a keeper of similar ability) Howard has been guilty of some serious clangers himself but keepers mistakes usually highlight tenfold over an outfield players. A striker misses an easy chance it's not remembered hardly, where as a keeper lets in a soft goal and it's never forgotten.

I personally think the hype over Howard over just one game is ridiculous. Keepers have games like that all the time every Saturday somewhere in the top divisions of football across the globe. It's talked about appreciated and moved on. Howard had a good game against Belgium but hardly enough to change an airports name (i think it was) over it but I guess that's just what our American friends are like and it's benefitting Everton in terms of our global appeal so it's a win win for me.

Keepers generally get better with age, and I see Howard being no exception. Tim has made some big errors in the past but they tend to be limited to a handful a season. Otherwise he is quite solid and without spending 10-15m+ on a new keeper we won't get near his quality.

I still have faith in Robles, people seem to want to write players off after a few poor performances. The lad hasnt had regular (that means a run of games, not once or twice a month for the cups) 1st team football for nearly 18 months and is still very young for a keeper at 24. There was a player in him at Wigan, I think we just need to be patient.

Welcome mate! I had pretty similar reasons to you, especially the one about not wanting to jump on one of the cash cow clubs. Also for me it was Tim Cahill rather than Howard, as I'm Aussie.

I'm also with you on the term soccer Football is an umbrella term in my mind and covers Rugby, Australian Rules, Gaelic, Gridiron etc.

When it comes to other teams competing, I don't generally care so long as the game wins (beautiful football, no cheating, etc)

For me it depends a little more than that, but I would say it's accurate in general. I will on occasion support a team like Arsenal, for example, since I appreciate the way they play and do business. For most of the big teams this is not true. But since we're playing Arsenal this weekend I wanted them to crash and burn as well .

Edit: Welcome to the best club in the world, badger!

    Not a stupid question.

9/10 will be supporting the "foreigners" I'd say, particularly when the English club is one of the monied elite. Wigan/Hull etc playing in Europe I wish then well but the "big" teams I want to crash and burn every time.
