brittoncarl got a reaction from Matt in John Stones
He's over hyped by his fans and over criticised by his doubters, he's had games where he has been top notch defensively against some of the best players in the world, different types of players too from Aguero, Rooney through to Andy Carroll. I do agree though like people have said I think he needs to do an Eric dier and go dmc this would give him slightly more freedom to play, alternatively he could stop trying to play as last man unless the game is at the point it's worth taking a risk!

Not so many moons ago most thought that Stones could walk on water. A stupid error on either his or his agent's part (transfer request) and a few below par games and the knives are out.
What a pathetic bunch of arrogant pricks some are. All this 'I could see two years ago that he was crap' shit and many are only too willing to re-watch every game he played to find an error in order to say "I told you so'.
The lad ('cos that's what he is) has had his world collapse around him and he will eventually be stronger for it but he needs support not a crowd baying for his head. I wonder if there's an element of 'Tall Poppy Syndrome' around Goodison, where because some people are so angry that their lives are so shit will take any opportunity to make other's lives as shit as theirs? And the taller the poppy, the more they want it cut down.
Players do not ever, I mean ever, become bad players overnight and deserve the wrath of the great unwashed. Sure, they lose form or confidence or have to change the way they have been encouraged to play because a new manager has new and different ideas but they are still good players.
I honestly feel that Stones has 'new manager syndrome' and is uncomfortable with the new setup. That may or may not change any time soon but until Stones gets his mojo back he needs support, not bollockings from a hostile crowd. FFS folks get off the lad's back because if he's forced out we'll get to see him excel in another shirt and still be England's captain.
Move on people, there are far more things to be concerned about right now than an early hiccup in what will be an exemplarary career. I just hope it's with us because if the fans get on his back too much, he will move. And we will regret it for a long time.

I think that is a load of bollocks. Have you seen the things he does for kids in the community? Visiting sick kids and being a patron of numerous charities? Does that strike you as someone who is arrogant? Every time I see him walk he seems a genuine young lad who unfortunately is living a different world to the rest of us. He is having a bad patch, granted I wasn't happy he put a transfer request but he won't be the first or last player to either make a mistake or be badly advised. What disappoints me is that u can hear the crowd waiting for him to make a mistake so they can have a go at him. That's not being a supporter! We are Everton nothing but the best is good enough! This lad will be the best but unfortunately it won't be in our shirt because he will be hounded out by pricks that don't know talent if it was staring them in the face

Mistakes the same ones that Smalling Jones Cahill and co constantly make, Hodgson is a tit if the highest order at times very much like a teacher who has his star pupils and barates the rest

We all know Stones as with any player made and makes mistakes but for me Martinez is as much to blame, lourding him as a gifted non typical ball playing CB he makes a few mistakes and then hangs him out to dry

Mori has been great don't get me wrong and I'm far from defending Stones but he's young learning his trade in a position that maturity and experience generally improves a player and for me he's been poorly man managed by Martinez

I think it's the same as any team. We have a lot of confidence players.
We need a couple of strong hearts in there.

Like Dier, it could work. Would relieve some pressure on him to do "old school" defending. Allow him to progress his natural game.

Coleman. Unbelievable 90 minute performance. Lennon was also very very good.

Lukaku massive special mention as he basically won us the game but based on 90 minutes it's seamus.

I would like Rom to watch Costa and take just a minute amount of the gunpowder that that fella takes... he's a prick and a nutter but a nip of what gets him going would turn Rom into what he could really be... a world class player.

Agreed except at this point i think that is completely our opinions. So far with 3 at the back we are outscoring our opponents and keeping a clean sheet. Mirallas put an end to that scoreline and system with his ridiculous play. I hate the system. Hate it. However we have yet to determine if it can be effective for Everton - way too small a sample size.

Or it was a world class player making a clever run onto a quality delivery. Depends how you want to see it.

He's in a poor run of form. So many of you are far too quick to write kids off.

Or are you now convinced this Rolls Royce of a player is actually an Escort with a good paint job?

Just as well you lot aren't actually in charge of our squad. We'd be left with a load of proven, hard working, no nonsense and no flair players playing for 6th and no sell on value.

Luckily, Stones will still be seen as a 50m player because the people in charge of other clubs will recognize that its a dip in form after a tough summer on a young lad. They'll invest stupid money because the lad is class, but having a poor period.

The issue with defence is not systematic; just look at the clean sheet, away, against City. It's more a matter of inconsistency at a time when key players - Jagielka, Baines, Coleman - have been out for extended periods. In theory, players should be able to swap in and out and make little difference; however, Stones is still learning from Jagielka, and Funes Mori remains new to the Premier League.

Bottom line is that we as a fanbase have never been happy.

When Moyes was here it was yah boo sucks because we were so "negative" and couldn't buy a win away from home against big teams because we'd bottle it, and he'd never drop his favourites. Now we complain because we have a manager willing to give games to young players, trusting creative types to express themselves and go after matches away from home to the point where we expect so much we're slitting our wrists about a draw at Stamford Bridge in a match where we'd earned a fair victory.

Results wise, Moyes finished 17th in his second season and even after that, it wasn't an irregular position for us to be sat in mid table at this time of year. For me, there's very little difference in the pairs' results aside from the fact that under Roberto I'd expect us to hit higher heights but also more disappointing lows. For example, under Moyes we'd never win at Old Trafford but we'd also never get slammed 4-0 at Anfield, we'd never have seen us field a striker like Lukaku capable of scoring 30 goals in a league season, but we'd also never concede 7 goals at home against Leicester and Stoke in the space of a week.

The reality is though, Moyes was our manager for a decade, we won no trophies and we finished 4th once to be rewarded with a single two-legged Champions League qualifying tie. For all the areas in which Moyes may be better than Martinez, if you look back at that with positive nostalgia and label it "getting results", I'm a little bit worried for you.

Spot on. I'm encouraged by this draw. We went to a big boy away expectin a win and are pissed we drew. Fuck me moyes we'd go expecting a loss and praying for a draw. Away we were awful.

Bob gone to old trafford won, Emirates, walloped arse 3-0 day after my son born, best man city leg 1 semi final cup hopefully beat them again. We aren't scared of anyone now.

Got youngsters playing first team, hell of a scouting network, homegrown Ross Barkley not ready for first team David moyes fucking future of England talent under bob.

Stroking it about and playing beautiful attacking football. I'm encouraged that a Chelsea draw pisses us off, really am. Shows we have grown and have higher aspirations.

Now let's win both those cups

Can't wait to see the FA react to Roberto's comments, all of which are just.

If Moyes were in charge today, he would have folded at 2-2 shitting himself trying to hold onto a point.
We can't let this unfortunate result demoralise us and take away from the fact that we've just matched city twice, matched Tottenham and in your opinion outplayed chelsea ( bar 10 minutes ) at the bridge.

Strange... we have a manager who has us playing some of the most exciting football we have seen, and has recruited some amazing talent... but we can't defend and he should be sacked???

For me he is close to being an exceptional manager. Some work to be done but FFS we suffered moyes brand of football for so long. Isn't this a bit more interesting?

Do people think there is a manager who will maintain our attacking style and turn us into a clean sheet machine.

I agree that the League Cup means nothing; few top teams really try to win it. League position is the best judge, and I'm convinced the results will come as the season progresses. I've mentioned before that the correlation between league position and goal difference is very strong, and I expect us to move up the table. In the second half of the season, we've tied (away) with City and Chelsea - and should have won the latter. This is a good sign, not a bad sign.
