I'm not sure there is one thing really, but I'd guess it's a couple different things.
Klinsmann did a good job reaching out dual-citizenship kids, especially those in Germany who father's were US Servicemen. Most of them were young, already playing in Europe, and uncapped. We just need some Army bases in Brazil now...
I think there are more kids now who have smarter parents that played the sport themselves at higher levels and realize that the US system has flaws in development. In America we seem to place a premium on raw athleticism - size, speed, strength etc, at the expense of technical skill. It "works" in basketball and US football. Not so much in footy, and parents that are wiser and understand high-level soccer also understand the domestic training is still a ways behind on the technical side.
I also think that the success of several of the current young crop coming into the USMNT has opened the eyes of both high-level/elite kids as well as their parents to the opportunities available in Europe for proper coaching and development. I think it's also made European scouts look more at American teenagers. Success breeds success so to speak. And right now, there seems to be a lot of young raw US talent heading to Germany.
I'd like to think our "soccer" IQ is growing, Maybe one day in the not way way off future, we will be able to domestically develop world-class players. But currently, our system will continue to produce great athletes, because that's what we do. But to produce great footballers, we need those teenagers to be in European academies and systems as soon as possible, and that's exactly where most of our bright young stars are.

yeah they need a good manager, that's the biggest need.  someone willing to play some decent football too, none of this work hard and try and eek out stoppage time wins while defending for our lives.  the talent and youngsters are there, just need someone to steer the ship.

i'd hire a foreigner, i'm not impressed with any of the american coaches.

We have the Russians working on that. I mean if they can rig an election across all of America, surely they can fix this shit right in their back yard?
Give us a waiver slot for being the only team in the world who has to play soccer against footballers.
Plant dead mosquitoes in their luggage  and quarantine the Costa Rica team for malaria.
Invade Croatia and pin it on Serbia.
Whatever, just make this shit happen so we don't have to have the FBI start indicting the entire governing body.  See, we're not an unreasonable lot.

It was a neat vid. They are 2 different teams, Red Bull had to  make significant changes and structure of the Austrian team when they and the German team qualified for EUFA CL last year, due to rules about 1 owner having 2 teams in the tourney. Pretty amazing, that they brought a new team in the bottom tier of German football, and in the 8th year not only got promoted to the Bundesliga, but were runner-up to Bayren.
Guess who got curious on the Google machine after watching NY Red Bull play Atlanta United  about RB and the footy teams?? ATL got screwed, horrible calls.

That being said, Lookman is the most exciting player we have, and it's really not close for me. Raw as hell, but would be horrible mistake to let him go this summer.

He is still developing, but is a very good CB. But, he has 2 great CB's in front of him. Sure wish we still had him and Rom (if their heads were right). The rub is that we didn't seem to use the 130m we got for them too wisely.

Title IX was enacted in 1972

MLS is reaching out more overseas, they have to. The problem is that there just aren't enough coaches being "produced" stateside. Part of it is lack of culture/history - not having generation after generation growing up loving the sport - playing, reffing and eventually coaching. Soccer was invented sometime in the 70's. Y'all have been playing football since the 80's. 1880's... Pulisic is a good example -of a second generation player - both his parents played in college and were around good coaching and playing, and so their son grew up around it, playing it, watching it and the parents recognized his abilities and knew where to direct him. We HAVE to have more domestic growth and it takes time to develop that culture from within. It's started, but we're still 100 years behind
The US development problems are complex, but beyond culture and player development /coaching are far and away the core of it, IMO. Geography doesn't help, with the sheer size of the US...the nearest place for me to send a child for quality coaching or in a quality league is 150 miles away or so, which makes it unavailable financially for lots to even GET the coaching to GET "discovered" to GET to an academy! I would venture to guess you have more professional academies within 75 miles of London than we have in the entire country.
It's generally a white middle to upper-middle class suburban sport as far the availability of quality coaching and competition.. Nothing against white kids in the 'burbs, but that's a pretty small percentage of our population. Trying to build a sport from 10-15% of your "pool" is an uphill battle. The rest are going to gravitate towards American football, baseball and basketball. Those sports have the 100 years of culture, which means generations of quality coaching, and locally available developmental systems regardless of income level. Actually baseball is in decline as a youth sport, and is becoming less available and popular, especially among blacks and Major League Baseball is worried. I think I read recently that blacks make up less than 8% of MLB rosters now when it used to be 20-30% .

Years ago, the NCAA (gov board of all college athletics) passed legislation called Title IX. In a nutshell, it says that a college must offer then same number of athletic scholarships to female students as male students. Colleges that compete at the top level (I think was 129 last year) have 85 scholarships to give for (American) football. So that means, they have to make 85 available to females. As a result, the "secondary" women sports at these schools benefit. Archery, swimming and diving soccer/football, track and field etc... And on the other hand, that means they aren't available to males. As a result, you have less colleges that even HAVE male soccer teams. College soccer is a MUCH bigger sport in the US for females, simply because there are many many more scholarships available.

Williams went from physical aggressive defender to blooming idiot that's a straight red waiting to happen ever since he body-checked that keeper into the ad board in Europa.  Like something snapped, and he has been a liability both in positioning and recklessness since. For me, he literally has no value to the team.

It would even been better if the said "$10m which is roughly $10m. At least it would have been accurate. My question now would be is it 10m pounds or dollars?

I remember reading that he had a twin brother who played, and the family lived in the US, Texas I think, for several years. I didn't realize he was playing professionally.  There is something about Funes Mori I have always liked - tho it certainly hasn't been his consistency on the pitch. He just seems like one of those guy that you really want to see succeed, even if it means doing so elsewhere. I don't think Fat Sam did him any favors as far as the World Cup To be fair, there was only one career that he ever cared about.

It would be a double dream if he truly develops over the next two years. USMNT LB has been as sketchy as a right footed RB filling in for Baines.....
Play the damn young 'uns and for more than the last 4-5 mins. Need to keep bringing fresh blood in, especially when there is so much promising youth. Tyler Adams showed in one game that he deserves a shot to lock down a spot in the midfield for a few years. Best young MLS player USMNT has had in a while. No offense to Jordan Morris.
