Can't agree that that was undeserved. I by no means think Chelsea were the better side but when you're on top you must make it count and we didn't.

    Absolutely gutted though.

To be fair Jags was a rock all day alongside Distin so criticising him for that foul is very harsh. One of those things lads. Chin up! Hopefully get a good FA cup run! COYB!

Of course it doesn't work - look at the player attrition levels (turnover) at those clubs... its a patch up methodology that does not provide sustained results.

Player acquisition needs to be specific and deliberate, this is not Football manager 2014... Look at Bayern and Barca versus Real, Chelsea and City.

New players need to integrate into the existing culture, not come in numbers and form a new one.

Laughable how you can judge him after 1 game considering his circumstances. Pointless saying anything more because you've already made your mind up. Bit embarrassing really.

New to this site so I don't know anyone or how people are, i've just come on here during work time hoping to have discussions with some proper Everton fans. Winds me up how much doom and gloom goes along with being an Everton fan, you get it at the match all the time people moaning because a player misplaces a pass or we draw with a team a few places below us and its the end of the world.

This season has been a good season whether we finish 1st or 11th, we have a new manager that plays football the right way and knows how to make posiitive substitutions, we have been unlucky with timing of injurys but you can't expect any new manager to come in and perform miracles immediately! Its a working progress and we are definitely moving in the right direction, the McCarthy shout was beyond deluded, the lad has been brilliant.

I'm looking forward to the next few years under Bobby and I think all Everton fans should.

That makes him better than Lukaku! His goal scoring record is now up there with Sturridge and actually better than Suarez! Brilliant!

Not sure how many will remember this, but it seems that Blakey's personality has suddenly affected these forums. People were not so negative when Deulofeu had a questionable first few games, so why pick on this guy? Why all the moaning - is it the weather? It's just plain ridiculous! Traore scored inside of five minutes, and still some believe he's pure crap. And I don't give a flying fig that someone wrote "can't wait for some to claim it was his first game in a new league". Yes, it was? New team, new teammates, new league, new atmosphere, new language, new style of play, and just back from injury. Give the man a break.

He may be a good player once he's fully fit, but this is what I was talking about when he first signed and I thought it was a bit of a silly move. He's not played in five months, been injured, is coming to a new league etc etc so he's going to take a hell of a lot of time to show how good he is (whatever level that may be). But the whole point of a loan signing at this stage of the season is for the impact they can have straight away. And yes he scored yesterday, so you could argue he made an instant impact, but he needs to do that every week for it to have been a success and I'm not sure he's going to be able to do that while coming to terms with everything already listed.

Fingers crossed he does like because we desperately need the goals from somewhere!

are you seriously saying that training is the same as match time?!
60 minutes, apparently he first game time in 5 months. Should we write everyone off who doesn't set the world alight immediately?

Inherent attributes. Well, let's judge the striker by the way he scores goals. Oh wait, he scored. Positioning? yup that too. Causing the CBs a problem? All the time he was on the pitch. Confidence? Very much so.

Edit: and who cares what all you negative Nellys say, Martinez sees something in him and he's done quite well so far. I'm going to listen to him

Anyway, enough of this. Did anyone else see people climbing over him! It was the same as when Felli was here, but it's ok because he's big. Pisses me off.

The 6ft 8in forward made his first return to action since October at Goodison yesterday, and admits he must play catch-up quickly if he is to have an impact during his loan spell on Merseyside.
“It is hard because it’s almost five months since I last played and it’s a bit like another pre-season for me,” he said.
“Every training session and every match I need to be at 100% intensity to get quickly back to my best.
“I need to get my rhythm as soon as possible because time is short. But it made me feel great to hear the reception I got. It means a lot to a player, and now it’s down to me to do my absolute best to repay them and perform well.”

Bit embarrasing this. Its like people need a new whipping boy now that Naismith seems to have sorted himself out, or because he had a good game.

He wasnt as bad as some of you are making out. I cant remember him being beaten in the air all that much because we never hit a cross to him in the entire game. Of course he was off the pace because yes i am going to bring up the new league, new country, coming back from injury, hasnt played in over a month...because guess what...thats the reality of it. I dont know what some of you were expecting?

Messi looked shite when he came back for Barca a month or so a go, dont think people were saying he was shite then.

He's going to take a few games to get to show what he is about. I dont even particulary rate the lad but i know he's better than what he showed. He scored on his debut, tracked back well a few times yes he lost the ball a fair few times because his touch was off but i dont get the complaints about his airial ability...when did he have chance to show it? we play it on the ground and when we did get in positions to cross yesterday for whatever reason they were always low and hard or cut-backs.

that was effortless, i have recently gone on the red cafe forum which is the man utd website just for some perverse humour and it astounds me how bad their supporters are. Unfortunately some of our fans are the same and want to write off a player that has just come back from injury and played in a wank Russia league and is expected to hit top form. For me he looked knackered after half an hour. Big concern for me is our style of play is conductive with a player that works the channels not a target man. We totally break down at the final third

Small club mentality Sideliner. If you dont think you can compete with the "big Dogs" you never will.

I can give you tons of clubs that play in Europe on a regular basis that benefit from it in their local leagues.
In the Nordics we have Rosenborg in Norway and Copenhagen in Denmark. They rarely progress to the knock out stages yet their balance books are the healthiest in the Nordics. And now they are neigh on impossible to beat in the league. (modern times) They were not always the richest clubs.

IFK Gothenburg had a great run in Europe during the 80's Even won it one year. They have since then capitalized on that for many years. Becoming one of the most popular clubs in Sweden.

Its not only prize money and tv money and gate money. Its a fan base grower. If we play more in Europe we find more fans in other countries. Those fans increase the likely hood of being televised more often. They also buy merchandise.

Are you honestly saying that a run in Europe wouldn't benefit the club?

If you don't play better teams often, how are you to improve?

There is a Chinese saying - Big Birds don't eat small crumbs. (if we want to be the big bird we need to start going for bigger crumbs)
There is a Swedish saying - What you lose on the swings, you gain on the roundabouts
Another Swedish one - Fortune comes to the bold

If we never stand up to a person that we cant defeat sitting down we will soon have a sore arse from all the sitting. And that is exactly the mentality DM had when it came to facing the bigger clubs. He never stood up and took the fight. RM did it straight away. If RM stayed sitting against Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea this season we would have 7 points less.

ALWAYS!!!!!!! (for as long as we've had the current European format) been down to seventh if FA cup winners/runners up plus league cup winners finish top six in the league.

Why does this come up every year

It's only a five point gap because our game was postponed.....that's what's so absurd about this whole thread. If we'd have picked up three points last night everybody would be positive; we'd have picked up two points on Chelsea & Arsenal and pulled a further two away from United and everything would be back on track, hot on the heels of Spurs.....we'd have a points total after twenty six games that we equalled only once under Moyes (04/05).

Some people are panic stricken because it got windy last night ffs.....get a grip!

GoodisonRoad got a reaction from Romey 1878 in Longest Thread For Drivel (or the Romelu Lukaku thread)
I think our system is better suited to a striker who plays between the lines and is of a much smaller build than Lukaku. Someone who relies on technical ability rather than strength. The reason the shite are playing so well in a similar philosophy to ours is because of their strikers. Both (Sturridge and Suarez) are "nippy" relativley small players who look to get in behind but can also come deep and get involved in the build up as well.

Lukaku rather looks to get the ball into his feet and turn a man, or get played through. Unfortunately, i dont think he suits our play at all. Both sturridge and suarez can link up with the midfield because they wouldnt look too out of place playing there, similar to MIrallas with us. At times, Suarez and Sturridge can look as though they are playing in midfield and they build the play up together with sterling etc. I think thats the reason Naismith has been playing that role and has looked a lot better than he did. Because essentially, he is a midfielder but he has the ability to come deep if need be and link up with our midfield or be played through because he's got a bit of pace.

We need somone who can do that for us, obviously these players dont come cheap and im hoping Martinez has some spanish guy nobody has heard of lined up, but honestly? Lukaku just doesnt fit in to our style of play IMO. I'd maybe even go as far as to say maybe in the summer try and get Mirallas more adjusted to playing that role and being less selfish. If he could pass and know when to pass, he could be a brilliant player. Someone who can link up the play, run at people, score goals and get assists.

I just hope the striker we do buy in the summer is more of a Mirallas than a Lukaku.

He'd ruin his career going to Milan. Italian football is a joke, not to mention corrupt. Cant see Arsenal being too attractive to him either tbh. And United?
