Easily. Easier than working on his touch, as you guys keep pointing out.

My mother had three brothers in the first World War. Two were gassed in France. One died aged only 51 from complications caused by the gassing. The other had a mental breakdown and spent 25 years in a mental hospital. The youngest was in the Navy and when he was due to join his ship he was dropped off at an uninhabited island where stores were kept. He was told that his ship would be coming for supplies and knew he would be waiting. He was totally alone on the island and waited 2 weeks for his ship. He was 18 years old. His mother, my Grandmother, told us that they had no contact with him for 2 years. Their father, my Grandfather, was a stevedore on Liverpool docks. He died, (long before I was born), in 1921. He drank contaminated water on a ship they were unloading and died from cholera. My Grandmother was born in Liverpool but of Irish parents. She was only 4ft 11in tall. She lost two daughters aged 8 and 18 months, what a hard life. She was about 83 years old when she died. I have a photostat copy of a letter my Grandfather wrote to his son in the Navy, just after he joined up. That letter and one photograph is all I know about him.
Just two stories about my Grandma. She once turned up at our house in Liverpool in the middle of an air-raid. In the black-out she had fallen and cut her hand badly (which eventually required several stitches). My mother went mad with her for coming out in an air-raid and Grandma just said 'well the Germans didn't get me'. She lived with one of my mother's sisters and after the war they moved to a house overlooking Newsham Park. I visited one Saturday and walking through Newsham Park I saw that it was packed with tents and marquees for an Orange Lodge 'do'. I went into Grandma's house (the doors were not locked in those days) but couldn't find anyone at home. Finally, I went into the 'front room' which was only used on special occasions. In there, I found Grandma kneeling down praying. I was a bit embarassed and made to leave but she said 'it's OK, come in, that's the Orange lodge over there and I'm praying for rain'. (Hope this doesn't offend anyone!)

    But.....

He cant score goals like Shearer. Win headers like Dzeko. Doesnt have the work rate of Costa and cant control a ball like Berbatov. All this and he's the ripe old age of 21!

And he cost £28m so i'd expect him to all of the above and more!

Talk about putting a spin on it!

How can comparing a strikers full season against anothers first 11 games be right?

If your comparing a seasons scoring for one, do it for the other! But that doesnt suit your point does it?

Beckford: 8 Goals in 33 League appearances (10-11)

Lukaku: 15 Goals in 31 League appearances (13-14)

Honestly...Its just seems like because we didnt get Bony in the transfer window and he was the one you wanted us to sign you've spat your dummy out and refuse to see anything good in it. Its like a kid getting a great christmas present but not quite the one he wanted. So he throws a tantrum and no matter how good it looks or how many cool flashing lights it has, it will always be seen as rubbish because its not the one you wanted.

Just on FF and Lukaku has a goal or an assist in every couple of games. If you include assists it makes him a 1 in 2 striker, without the assist he's 1 in 2.3 games. Not bad for a 21 year old who's not been fully fit and playing in a team that's been without 3 of its best players Barkley, Coleman and Mirallas for half the matches.

Under Moyes our top goalscorer averaged 9.5 per season. Lukaku has already matched our best goalscorer over a decade and on current form would get 13 and match Saha our 2nd top scorer under Moyes 09/10.
Yakubu's 15 goals (and 3 assists) but only 5 (plus 1 assist) against top half teams compared to 10 goals and 5 assists of Lukaku's being against top half clubs. Both seasons we finished 5th, I'd argue last years team had more quality, but Yakubu had a bigger advantage as we played to his strengths.

He's not as good as Aguero or RVP, but at his worst Lukaku is as good as the best we've had since 96/97, so ffs stop the bloody moaning.

The price tag again?! The price tag has no impact or representation of the player or his ability. It is a transaction between clubs. That is all it ever was, is and will be.

Wonder if this bollocks would still be branded about if we'd paid £28m for Barkley and Rom had come through the academy? Just a thought....

Which is the category McGeady is in. He on numerous occasions, has run into a man (surely manouvering your body around a player is also one of the basics), he over hits his own knock-ons, he's run it out of play a few times too. He's 28, Kone is 31? If Lukaku doesn't improve his touch in 7 years (minimum we can use to be fair) then Vault my ass to the moon. But until then, players like McGeady aren't even at a level we can compare Rom to.

I just don't get why Lukaku gets all the stick but players like McGeady and Kone are still getting away, scot free, when the arguments against Rom MOST definitely fall with those two players as well? That's what i don't understand.

Okay you werent saying McGeady was shit, but you were trying to deflect the blame on to Rom as to why other people think he is.

I'll agree with you and give credit where its due, McGeady was our best player against Sunderland or he was certainly the one who looked like he was going to create something. But he has been shite for the vast majority of this season.

Roms got 4 in 10 in the league. Just under a goal every other game. Forgive the lack of concern regarding a "recession for Everton" on my half.

Cant believe im getting dragged into this again but i really dont understand some of our fans expecting some world class accomplished striker coming in when he signed. The idea was and always has been that we've signed a young prospect with a great goalscoring record already who is only going to get better. People are expecting way too much from this 21 year old kid! Haf pitting him against the Likes of Shearer, Costa, Dzeko and Giroud before is whats driving me up the f*cking wall! I'd love to have seen how they were when they were 21! nobody had heard of Giroud Dzeko or Costa until about 2-3 years a go! its a comical argument to be having.

we dont expect the same from Barkley, he's been shite the last couple of games and nobodys batted an eyelid whether its because he didnt cost us anything or because he's one of our own or what i dont know.

He's a striker, he's young and will fuck up and he's scoring goals (not as prolific as many of you would like apparently?) Honestly the critisism of him is way over the top. If he's shit, he's shit and i'll say it, he was awful last week. But some people on here only seem to want to give him stick and any appraisal is always through gritted teeth, there's very rarely any balance given to any Lukaku argument on here.

We do have a forward who can get into the box. Unfortunately he is being asked to be a hold-up player whilst others join the attack, the job of an AMC. That goes for all of our strikers, whoever is leading the line; all are expected to hold the ball up and link up play rather than do their actual job, which is to be in the box to score. They cannot do both jobs at the same time.

    McGeady's shit = Lukaku's fault

Teams shite against Sunderland = Lukaku's fault

Win 3-0 against Lille, why wasnt it 4-0? = Lukaku's fault

    Global warming = Lukaku's fault

    Recession = Lukaku's Fault

Honestly bored of the Lukaku arguement now and its been done to death but to suggest McGeady's Ineffectivness is down to him as well is just bollocks.

“Yes, why not? I think that they could. They have incredible physical capabilities and they are good technically"

In other words interviewer has specifically asked about those two players. Given that there isn't too much to get excited about with the England team at present it's not surprising they were the examples.

The reality is far different. Sterling is not as good as he is made out to be. Barcelona had Pedro playing for them aged 20/21 and was far better than what we see from Sterling.

I think Xavi is a very polite player who isn't likely to say anything negative. As much as I love Barkley I'm not all of a sudden going to elevate my appraisal of him.

If we didn't have two defensive midfielders then Baines and Coleman wouldn't be able to bomb on like they do and so we would lose more creativity than we gain

Lukaku and Barkley are getting a lot of flack. Lukaku is 21 and Barkley is 20. They will develop into some of the best players in the world in time and they are playing for the blues. Unfortunately, I feel that they carry too much of a burden and expectation when the real criticism should probably go to the manager. Lukaku and Barkley are both investments that will show their quality and resilience in the long-term. Let's not be so short-sighted and look for scapegoats.

Are you having one of those days where you feel that not everyone is in love with your fav players as much as what you are?

Don't worry - Gibsons qualities aren't lost on anyone - but neither is his propensity to pick up injuries - which means Martinez is likely to be using him with caution.

Maybe the fact that many cruciate rebuilds break down within 12 months may be the reason behind this.... let alone the fact that cartilage injuries are common place after ACL injuries. Next thing you know he will be getting mocked like Arouna Kone for being injured. Patience.... I agree, he offers us a different quality in midfield and he will give us creativity and balance.

I think most improved player would be Lukaku, but was he the best player in a blue shirt? For me it was

    1. McCarthy by a mile
    2. McGeady
    3. Naismith
    4. Lukaku

That's not having a go at Rom, he did have a good game but motm because it was an improvement kinda isn't the usual rationale or is it?

The point we're all missing on Gibson though is he wont stay fit and it's such a shame because he's such a good footballer.

He showed in the one prolonged spell he had with us that he could be a pivotal and imense player for us.
