MC11 Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) For those of you with a sense of humour I thought this was a good idea of a thread: Anytime someone bigs a player up or gets something massively wrong this is where they should be outed. It can be from 3 months to 10 years. I always find it funny reading back old posts... Small minds and all that.. Edited November 11, 2014 by MC11 Quote
Lowensda Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 I've made a couple that i've eaten humble pie on (Naismith being the largest slice, the rest I've been pretty consistent on and only changed opinion when they've let me down. But the big one, which I can't find as I've not got the time is definitely the whole Daniel Sturridge saga that I was involved in 2 years ago (I think). Always thought he had talent, he showed great promise, had all the attributes; he just needed some guidance but he moved to Liverpool and the amount of abuse and ridiculous comments that came out because of it, was like he sexually assaulted some participant's family. Went on to bag a serious amount of goals for club and country. He proved them. Quote
Shukes Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Haha i think that's pretty funny and could be quite fun. Think I'll be in there a few times haha. Quote
Guest millwallforever Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 I nominate: MC11. Reason 1: bigging up Gibson on the basis of one game that he has not even seen. Reason 2: whimsical recourse to Squawka statistics, wholly devoid of any contextualisation. Gibson has a pass accuracy rate of 95% during 14 + 3 + 78 minutes played: some killer sideways and reverse passes; therefore he is great. Fàbregas has a pass accuracy rate of merely 89%; that probably makes Fàbregas shite. Quote

I don't remember him giving the ball too often to be honest, most of the time he was tapping it to McCarthy to do something with it before he disappeared from his defensive duties. Not arguing that he's potentially an extremely good CM, because on occasion he has shone, just as on the weekend he stunk. But he is definitely not a DCM (can't tackle) and he definitely has not proven over a long enough spell of games during his Everton career to justify your claims of being better than Barry or McCarthy. You really are a glutton for punishment Edited November 11, 2014 by Matt Quote

You really are a glutton for punishment Oh this old chestnut..... So I'm not allowed to judge a player on over 40 games now. Lol. How many is it Matt? It's my opinion that he's a better "footballer" than McCarthy & Barry. That's not to suggest I think he should be in before McCarthy because I see his role as a defensive player. What I've always said is we lack creativity in the middle with both those players in. Ramires was mentioned in another thread. Yes, that's a fine example of a proper "box to box" midfielder. He can go both ways. Unlike McCarthy and Barry and is just as efficient going forward as he is in defence. Those players though cost big money, we can't afford them. But having the balance of a forward thinker (Gibson) and a defensive player (McCarthy) in the middle can only benefit us in the final 3rd and controlling games in the middle. Look at Barcelona. Busquets and Xavi. Is Xavi a defensive player? No he's the play maker, the engine room, the guy who controls the pace of the game. I'm not at all suggesting Gibson is anywhere near the calibre of Xavi (before you jump on that) I'm using it as an example if a balanced central midfield. Nobody has ever suggested Gibson is a DM he's not it clear. He's a proper central midfielder who is best suited with a defensive partner (McCarthy). Breaking teams down who want to sit back will be made much easier with a player who can see pictures in his head. Gibson is that type of player. Quote
MikeO Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Thought this was quite a decent idea for a light hearted thread personally; but it's turned into a car crash after eight posts . Quote
MikeO Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Blame Matt Think it was Millwall who took it offline in post four to be fair, then others piled in. Be good to all kiss and make up in this thread (so gay on here today anyway) and take it back to what it was intended for. Then the hissy fits can go on in the usual places, just a thought. Quote

Matt Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Blame Matt I was going to debate it as an adult until I saw this, but whats the point? Mike, I thought it was supposed to be light hearted too, hence the last sentence in my post. Quote

MikeO Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 This was/is a competition and someone had to be nominated. But "The Vaults" shouldn't really mean something said in the last two days; the intention was for people who've slagged off/bigged up players in recent years and turned out to be wrong. The Gibson argument is ongoing. Quote

MC11 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Report Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Competition rule outlined in the opening post: "It can be from 10 years ago to a day ago." Ok let's change it so it really is the vaults.... Minimum is 3 months that way the dust is settled and we can debate recents elsewhere. Edited November 11, 2014 by MC11 Quote
MikeO Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Competition rule outlined in the opening post: "It can be from 10 years ago to a day ago." Fair enough, missed that; bad "smallprint" from MC, you can't be "proven" wrong in a day. Needs a longer timescale and general consensus to agree that the post is bullshit. EG, someone saying, "Why have we wasted £60,000 on that Irish kid from Sligo?" would be fair game. Quote
MC11 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Report Posted November 11, 2014 If the Gibson posts are moved into the Gibson thread this will look a little neater. Quote
Guest millwallforever Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 No, let's not change the rules. Lot more fun this way. Ok let's change it so it really is the vaults.... Minimum is 3 months that way the dust is settled and we can debate recents elsewhere. Quote
Guest millwallforever Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 If the Gibson posts are moved into the Gibson thread this will look a little neater. What you are really saying is: "If the Gibson posts are moved into the Gibson thread I'll be off the hook." Quote
MC11 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Report Posted November 11, 2014 What you are really saying is: "If the Gibson posts are moved into the Gibson thread I'll be off the hook." I'll debate all day long Millie. But this is meant to be a fun thread, it's turning into a debate. Which Mike is right Gibson is ongoing... Quote

Guest millwallforever Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Don't worry, I admire the persistence with which you advocate your case. You should be barrister. One day you might just find a less hopeless case than Gibson. I'll debate all day long Millie. But this is meant to be a fun thread, it's turning into a debate. Which Mike is right Gibson is ongoing... Quote
MikeO Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Not going to move the Gibson posts because there's too much crossover and it wouldn't make sense but new rules apply. I'd personally have given it more than three months (a year maybe) but MC's thread so we'll abide by the rules Quote

MikeO Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Lets give Patto a chance to call me on Junior Calling you on Eto'o would be easier . Though I have a horrible feeling I agreed with you . Quote
Matt Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Calling you on Eto'o would be easier . Though I have a horrible feeling I agreed with you . 3 month rule :I surrender: In my defence, I have mentioned several times that I am wrong about his attitude, which was my only concern. Quote
MC11 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Report Posted November 11, 2014 Good shout on Eto'o.... Some absolute beutys amongst this lot - and that's only the first page! The same Eto'o that currently is threatening not to play in the world cup because he feels he is not paid enough? Not a chance Nope. No tar. Not then, not now, not ever. Im eally not knocking him for his age. Its his poor attitude towards the national team. To represent your country in the world cup is an honour. Should not be tainted by money arguements. Oh and he is too old. No thanks, I prefer Kone and naisy over him to be honest. Not a slight against arouna and Steve, I just think ole SAMs tank is empty. Wouldn't want him even if he wanted 30k a week. Not a chance No thanks. He's finished and has been for the last few years yet still demands ridicilous wages like 150k a week! no thanks. Quote
