This summer certainly will be interesting.
 
I can see everyone staying apart from Stones. I was dreading the summer transfer window but now i cant wait. The names we will be linked with will be crazy.

But haven't our results been much better since Lennon and Cleverley have been back?
Surely that's a reason for them to stay in the team?

The defense we have now is based on the defense we had under Moyes.

The only player that Martinez has bought is Mori, all the rest were bought and trained by Moyes. They did not forget how to defend, nor has Martinez trained it out of them. I think there are many reasons why we are defending poorly:
 
1) Howard's skill has diminished badly over the last 2 or so years which has unsettled the rest of the defense.
 
2) We as a team don't have the same emphasis on defense first that we had under Moyes, and we have a changed from hoofing it clear to passing it out of defense, and the transition has been uneven, and exasperated by reason 1.
 
3) While the defense has mostly remained the same, the midfield has changed making it a different team dynamic.
 
4) Individual mistakes by players have been more frequent.
 
The defense will come good, once we get a quality keeper who commands the area, and Martinez has slightly more defensively minded defense.

Well according to the Moyes trend, stones like dier, mustafi and Duffy would have no doubt stayed in the reserves. As for Barkley well let's just say he would probably be on his 6th loan club.
 
So, that leaves players moyes left behind behind... ageing, lacking in quality. 7 of the 13 mentioned not good enough or needing imminent replacement. That's £70m worth of a talent gap.
 
Mccarthy, Barry, Besic, Cleverley, galloway, deulofeu, mori bought in for £30m. 7 players probably worth £80m plus now.

That was moyes last everton game. 4 first choice players in their last contracts before inevitable retirement. 3 players not good enough.
 
Basically he left us in a similar shape as Dalglish left liverpool when he did a runner first time round.
 
Martinez had to sell fellaini to work in the transfer market and look at what we have now. We were in serious trouble in terms of players ages and lack of funds.
 
I'm far from happy with his tactics and subs but seriously please stop talking about moyes like he's bill shankley.

Exactly. Some fans act like Martinez is doing nothing right at all. He has changed an aging squad, brought in some great young talent and is changing the way we play Football. It was never going to be seemless.
Therefore i don't think its as clear cut as saying its time to go, there is a bigger picture to look at.
 
People stuck by Moyes for 10 years and we basically stood still with a few highlights. At least with Martinez you can see what he is trying to build and create.
 
I hate seeing Managers sacked after a short time. You cant judge a manager after 2 years when so much needed changing at the club. He frustrates the life out of me at times but iv never seen us play so much great football either. Just my opinion.

Which led to the best football iv seen us play for a long time.
Freshening up an aging squad and instilling a different type of football on them isn't going to happen over night. 9 goals and 3 clean sheets before the WBA game which we should have won but to me teams like WBA are teams we will struggle against as we like to play football and they dont. The minute we lose the shouts of 'martinez out' start, its ridiculous. His subs frustrate me at times, but i do see that in some games we need to change the shape and not just the personnel.

He's a lot better than I gave him credit for and happy to hold my hands up...plus he can take a corner!!!

Clev, Mo, and Lennon get my picks for the three most improved players of late, and the three that have made the greatest impact on the pitch in the last few matches (well Mo before his injury).

I was thinking he'd be a decent squad player when we got him, but he's already expanded on my expectations -- glad to see him get some recognition.

I don't think anyone is "making excuses" for martinez. I make excuses for no one when a lack of quality/professionalism costs Everton.
 
I believe establishing the criteria between "work in progress" and "enough is enough - get gone" is what is at debate.
 
He has a lot going for him, but his faults are costing him and overshadowing any good work.

1 dimension is still nonsense though. It wasn't just hoofball, or, for example, am I just imagining the Pienaar & Baines partnership? One of the best team goals I've seen at Everton was Ossies vs Larissa.
 
He had his flaws, for sure, but 1 dimensional and boring is nonsense in my opinion.

He's vital to us. He does need to improve certain parts of his game, but those talking about selling him because we've got Besic and Cleverley are foolish.

Same side that Beat Newcastle for me. No changes needed unless Rom is injured.
Cleverly and Lennon's work rate was one of the factors we won that game, Need the same against Stoke. Strong Bench with Kev back and Geri.

Got to stick with Lennon & Cleverley for this. Both have played well enough to earn spots.

Mirallas back is good news.

Stoke have been poor the last couple of matches tho.

Tbh, I can't remember those days. Going to Stoke (indeed playing them anywhere) has always been a tough game and never somewhere you'd expect us to pick up 3 points.

I think its been a successful window.

McGeady out and 8.5mil for Naismith.

2 Great prospects in for the Future and 1 Striker in for the First Team.

Im not a fan of Kone like most others but what he does bring is the best out of Lukaku, so if Niasse is just a better quality version of Kone then it could work out very well for us for a few reasons. I don't know much of him but reports say he works hard, has pace and an eye for goal!, all very positive attributes.

Not unknown - plenty of clubs were sniffing around him.
 
We have lost 2 players that were not fetauring in McGeady and Naismith (£70k a week wages plus £8.5m)
 
We have bought in a striker who will push/support Lukaku who was the russian player of the year.
 
I'm more than happy with this Jan window.

Plenty of players would come here. Bit they have to be able to make a difference.
