Based on the other thread where I mentioned Spurs squad and signings, I had a little think. Based on having 2 players of quality to cover every position I think kelly they are maybe a little short at right back and that's it. They have enough quality cover in every position, albeither one of themy includes Sissoko. Someone like Dier would have to cover DM and CB but that's not unreasonable. Looking at our squad we are short at LB cover, I think we are a first choice CB short but have plenty of cover and we also lack cover for Coleman at RB. Maybe Holgate can do it but that open for debate. We are really strong in midfield, especially if Sigurdsson signs and Barkley stays. I think DCL would provide decent cover at CF but again that too is open to debate. If Sigurdsson signs then Sandro could cover CF and wide but I classed him as starting wide. I haven't even included Lennon or Lookman as cover, nor Besic. We have a crazy amounot of depth there. We are just really short at the back.

That's true, they had plenty of rubbish. I guess that's another comparison with us. Out of interest where would you say they are weak?

If any team loses 3 of their best players they will struggle. Don't forget they lost Kane last year and did pretty well! As long as they don't get 2 injuries to the same position I think they have enough cover.

He started almost every game last season so he can't be that bad and he definitely strengthens UTD and theoretically should allow Pogba further forward.

He is a poor man's Eriksen in my opinion but that's not a bad thing, it's just the crazy price. Makes you realise how much of a bargain Spurs got!

Bit of a tangent but what do think about Spurs this window? I can't work out if I am impressed enough with their squad that they don't need to buy too many players or whether I think it is risky leaving it this late in the window. No doubt they will get one or two but I think they could get through the season ok without anyone. It's a small squad but they have a lot of quality and then some youth players coming through. I wonder if that's Koeman's aim with us. Small squad, lots of quality and then rely on kids.

Would be a bit shithousery to the fans if we put Barkley on the branding, almost encouraging fans to get his name on their shirt if they knewes he wouldn't sign a new contract.

I actually can't wait for this. It should be crazily one sided but Mcgregors a nutter and Floyd has struggled against the more unconventional fighters. I so hope McGregor does it, would be unreal. It would be a movie.

I can see both arguments with Gana. I have never seen someone intercept or tackle as much as this lad can and he has such an engine on him too. On the other hand he gets sucked out of position a lot and I don't think he supports the attack as well as our other midfielders. By that I mean his runs are very obvious and his passing/shooting is basic at this level. In big games he would be one of the first names on the team sheet. When a draw isn't enough I don't think he is as important (assuming Schneiderlin plays). In an ideal world I would probably rotate him and Davies depending on the opposition.

It's not like his contract runs out this year. If we offer him a a new and by all accounts decent new contract with over a year left that's plenty of time. Given the what's happened since I expect informal negotiations were underway before April but without any joy. The club then put their best offer in place in April and things haven't changed.

It was a problem last season too and we are making it worse. Geri was another who played in the first half and Barkley wasn't a slouch, not that he ever got in behind. Basically our front 3 will more than likely be Rooney, Giroud and Sigurdsson with Sandro here and there. That isn't just slow it's pedestrian.

Also is anyone else find it a bit strange that we bring in Walsh and in his first summer window we haven't brought in any of the players you would typically associate with him. I could have done that job for a lot less money

We do but like Lenton they don't look like starters or even a bencher in Lennons case.

I would be concerned that this leaves us pretty pedestrian with only Sandro and Bolasie as our pace. In fairness it doesn't affect Spurs but look at the impact of Mane being out last year for Liverpool, it made them too predictable. Likelihood is that if both sign either one or both of our two pace men won't play.

If he takes free kicks and corners it can get skewed too (both chances created and assists).

Anyone else sureprised that we haven't scheduled another preseason game for today/tomorrow? I wouldn't be expecting the first 11 to start but we have plenty on the fringes and players like Sandro/Holgate/Pickford who need game time.
