Wall Writer got a reaction from Sev in The shite (Away) 21st October
The thing you hear about Young is that he’s an experienced player. Diving in on a yellow like he did is not what I expect from an experienced player. It’s awful play from him as he should know better.
As soon as that happened I pretty much stopped watching. Of course they’re gonna get a penalty at some point, of course they’re gonna have decisions go their way. Cos that’s how it goes, an experienced player would know that.
The result sucks and the manner of the result stinks.
But despite that, we did ok. We’re a team that’s on the way back up; that’s all I can take from this game.
It wasn’t a decisive win on their part - even though they had every kind of help to make it so. A soft pen and a late counter, hardly convincing.

Fuck Ashley Young for getting the red and for being the reason Keane gets brought on.

To just goes to show how the media works.
His attitude is completely the correct one. That old prayer comes to mind “grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”
But they have to spin it some way that implies wrongdoing, incompetency or some other contemptible behaviour.
The article could just have easily been titled “Dyche Takes Sensible Stance in Matters Out of His Control.”
But who’s gonna retweet that?

Yeah, logic doesn't sell and is increasingly irrelevant in debate. Its all about exaggeration and hysteria so they get the clicks.

I put this Chermiti signing in maybe a similar bracket to Stones, Deulofeu, Vlasic, Onyekuru, Lookman, Kean, Besic & Patterson. A reasonable fee for young players but unproven in the Premier league. They are not all going to succeed, but in most cases you would expect to be able to get most of your money back - on average you are not going to lose millions and possibly even turn a modest profit on some of them. Its a near cost neutral approach. I see Chermiti as a low risk stratergy purchase.
It's when we have tried to buy more 'proven' player in their prime and at top doller where we have fucked up as a club.

At 40 I'm still a kid
You're a kid in this game until you're a regular in the starting squad or until 23 in my eyes.
And I was very, very much still a kid at 19.

I don’t think he was in any way a panic buy. I think it was more a case of “how much can we scrape together for a striker and who is available and fits a profile in that price range.”
We desperately needed back up for DCL and now we have it. Do I think he’ll be a good signing? I don’t know. I don’t think he has bags of quality, but I think he’ll put in a shift when he plays and provide a presence up front. If that translates into goals and assists, then it’ll be a good signing.
But just having the option to rest DCL or bring on another option is also a huge bonus.

No because he offers other attributes to his game that we need, he’s going to struggle to take DCL place but when the time comes to step in he won’t let us down.

I agree he may not be a prolific scorer like DCL, but he bullies and hassles defenders into mistakes that others can benefit from, I like his size strength and commitment maybe the not fastest or blessed with a good first touch, but if he gets in the box and the ball is accurately delivered he will cause chaos for most defence's.

But you’re not gonna buy a striker who’s guaranteed to bang in 15-20 goals in the Premier League for 25 million.
Considering our present financial situation, we’ve got in one guy who is probably one for the future and another guy who can come in as back up for DCL.
I think overall that Thelwell has tried to play his hand sensibly here. Sure we would like to have better quality, but we are where we are. At the same time we are still better off than we were 12 months ago with Maupay. So there is improvement.

Panic signing? We were linked with him last September (2022), then apparently had a bid rejected in January, then several bids rejected in this summer. Doesn’t seem to me that it was a panic buy, rather that we’ve been tracking him for some time.

You're speculating. He may or may not. What's factual is that since we got actual strikers in, we've won 3 of the last 7, drawn 1 and lost 3. So nearly a 50% win ratio with players starting to come back from injury. Speculating, but a 50% win ratio over the season is 57 points which we will never achieve if fans are jumping on the managers back which will get him fired.
He's not perfect, he makes mistakes and stupid decisions. But the amount of ridiculously OTT criticism, of the guy who's been here 9 months and most of that time didn't have someone to lead the line, is ludicrous and massively damaging to the club. We need stability. Stability comes with time. 9 months and a ragtag group for 8 of those 9 months is not something to judge on. From now until the end of the season is.
