McCarthy versus Fellaini:- for me Felli has the strength, aerial ability and control to be the best of his type around. For me where he lacks is where mccarthy excels - he is a fully commited team player. He runs himself into the ground, is technically competent with a good array of passing. He is disciplined and consistent.

Fellaini has far greater potential but for me doesn't show it enough. For hald the price of what we can sell felli (£24m and mccarthy £12m is ok by me)

efc1111 got a reaction from marcus jones in Steven Naismith debate
Martinez is surely going to want to meet Naismith and see the guy in training and in a couple of pre-season games up front in HIS system before he makes a decision on whether he sees a future for him at Goodison or not? Especially as Kone won't join up until later in the month so it's a chance maybe to play him up front and see how he gets on.

I doubt it's going to work out for Naismith with us, despite his undoubted workrate and enthusiasm, and he seems like a really decent guy too, but if RM decides this month that he wants to cash in on him then I feel sure there will still be clubs interested in him.

Pretty sure Kone and Robles will speak some English after last season (Robles was tweeting in brief English while he was with Wigan) but probably don't feel confident enough to do a lengthy interview in English.

For Robles, doubtless it will help his progress to have a Spanish goalkeeping coach to work with.

We've signed THREE players in two days? I really need to lie down for a while!

Pleased with the three additions so far; it's good to get them sorted early in the window and get them among the current players as soon as possible.

As he's been working with their youngsters, I wonder if he'll take a similar role with us and Stubbs will move up to first team coach? Stubbsy did well with the U21s last season so maybe he'll be rewarded with the step up to the first team, especially as he was a defender so you'd hope he can add those strengths to Martinez's backroom. Just a thought.

I feel bad because this is all Everton's fault.

We sign the powerhouse, Kone, and our competitor's shit themselves and put pressure on Benteke to hand in a transfer request to make it easier for a move to happen.

Sorry Villa fans .

Have you noticed Martinez has the same shirt on in his interviews?

It's fair to say that the interview had been segmented, and the club knew they had their man.

Why is it though, that they can't let the fans know, rather than us find out via leaked sources? It would be great to log on to the official site and see something for the first time that was exciting.

I agree we need progression, but in his first window a bit of safety might be a good idea. He keeps talking about bringing in the right characters, he knows this guy and can trust him.

agreed -

makes it much more competative on our frontline, I think he is going to be a good signing for us, a grafter and a bit of quality as well.
If just siging him kicks Jelavic on it a bonus, I don't care much who scores as long as somebody is.

I think we have just significantly increased our chances of more goals over the next two or three years without breaking the bank and putting our eggs in once basket.

I will judge Martinez's dealings over three or four transfer windows, not his first two or three signings - the quickest and easiest transfers are going to be be the ones he knows from his former club and they are going to be be the first couple in. That might just happen to be Kone and Alcaraz, (with the pair only costing £5M tranfer fees and around £40,000 a week wages). I don't think these first two signings are going to define his on going transfer policy over his contract period.

£5M is not than massive an investment.

efc1111 reacted to RuffRob in Martinez won't last the season
Gone by Xmas or the end of the season what an absolute joke - we are not Chelsea, Spurs, Man City or QPR, and we have not signed Harry Rednapp, Mark Hughes or Di Canio as the manager. Martinez is not going to rip apart what Moyes has already steadily built, and go wild in the transfer market. Martinez spoke with respect of where the club are and how he want to steadily improve.

Although Moyes and Martinez are different in many way regarding there approaches to the game - They have few things in common they are both real grafters and student of the game. They are both really honest and straight talking fella's with strong principles and act with integrity, I think Martinez will build the same type of open and close relationship with the Chairman as Moyes did. I don't see any sort of love hate relationship going on.

I am nervously excited about the next regime at Everton - From what I have heard from Martinez so far I really think we have the best man for this particular job (I was in the Pereira camp originally) . Will we kick on?, I don't know, its a very tough ask to consistently rub shoulder with any of the Man U, City, Spur, Chelsea, Arsenal and even Liverpool, they all have vastly superior resources year after year and this is not going to change any time soon.

The Everton job is actually a difficult job for any manager in world football - you have very little scope to screw up in the transfer market, you can't buy yourself out of trouble or amass a large squad to cover transfer dealing deficiencies, and us fans expect year on year progress.

By explaining what he sees in Kone in the way he has explained it says to me Martinez knows exactly what he's talking about, he knows exactly what he needs at Everton to make his system work and it manages the fans expectations of Kone as a striker in that he will score goals but he's also a team player who will create chances for others both with his use of the ball and the space around him.

Chances are we've already signed a cracker of a manager so get Kone in here too. Pronto! £5/6m will seem like chicken feed if he does the business compared with £5/6m for someone younger who turns out to be no good for us.

Sign him!

I'm replicating the unbelievably blinkered posts on this thread. Fooking embarrassing! Yeah, I am on one, but half of these aren't opinions... They are lazy random picked stats to discredit an unfashionable name.

I thought most on here were open minded, seems to me that unless we are in for a player who was heralded as the next something by the media a few years ago then it's not good enough.

I'm actually being positive about something the club is doing (potentially) for reasons that I'm comfortable with I.e an informed opinion using my own eyes.

Premiership strikers do not come cheap. I am with Haf on this one, it's not the deal of the century.

He is a decent player. £5M is probably a fairish price age verses quality wise. I would expect him to get between 10-15 goals easy enough in our team, and even two seasons out of him doing that's decent enough as the squad develops. A fairly low risk signing, he is based in the north west, has played well under Martinez for 12 months, so will hit the ground running under the new manager (most probably better than most players we have in the squad). So in that way he might be the right signing at the particular moment in time.

He's not going to be coming in on silly wages either.

I think Martinez will generally go with bringing youth through, but he's not going to do this over night in a new squad, Kone will be a good 'bedding in' signing for the new Martinez regime. He is a signing for this season and not really the future.

I not sure the doom and gloom is called for just quite yet.

I think people are over reacting slightly on this and some far too much.

I fully agree that anything over £4/5m is excessive not due to ability purely due to his age but that said if He can score 15+ a season then his fee would be fully justified.

If we had Him last season there would be a good chance we would be playing some form of European football this coming season as we all know we've missed some great chances and should have been far more prolific upfront.

The one thing you will get with Kone is a decent instinctive goal scorer if you watched him last season he not only scored a few but created space and chances for others as he is a handfull.

When we are on form we create chance after chance and if this guy was in or around the box last season he'd have thieved on the service and I'm pretty confident he'd have scored a fair few.

Not at a great age but still has ability and a few seasons left in him if he stays free from injury and although I won't be ecstatic I'll be fairly happy knowing we have a bloke who will convert chances work hard for the team and he knows the league and regardless of age will cause teams problems...

I'll give him my full support and be pretty confident he'd prove a fair few wrong.

I think he knows that his first few signings need to be reliable. He knows the character of Kone and Alcaraz, he knows how hard they work and how they interact with other players, he knows if they rock the boat or not. They also know his systems and can help him integrate it into our squad.
If he brings them both in and it costs £6.5m for added depth and competition, then I won't mind. He's playing it safe.
If we only bring in these two and lose none, apart from Johnny, I'll be happy to wait until January for more additions.

Signed a pro deal at 18 today. A Centre back that's played a bit of Under 19 for England.

Anyone seen anything of him or know much of him, much of a prospect?

Seems smart lad, picking up 10 A* GCSE's! Rare enough from a footballer especially the amount of time they spend training as well, gives himself decent options if things don't work out.

Moyes officially leaves tomorrow and Martinez returns from USA and takes full reign. There will be action this week - maybe backroom staff first then the players (and I expect a fair few) will start coming. I think Alcaraz will be the first signing.

The FA aren't corrupt at all.

The Women's Super League will have two divisions next season. Doncaster Belles have been in the top flight of women's football for 22 years. The FA have decided they'll be in division 2 next year, because;

"The FA decided which teams should play in each division via an independent panel that assessed clubs on their financial sustainability, with factors such as management, marketing and the quality of coaching staff and facilities considered"

So, your business plan is shite and we don't like your staff. You're fired!

And who will they be replaced by............

"The club will be replaced in the top flight by newcomers Manchester City Ladies."

efc1111 reacted to Cake in Ruddy & Jutkiewicz
It was Ruddy's contract, not his handshake, that was the problem. His contract was the same as Thomas Myhre in that we will have had to pay Cambridge Utd (in Ruddy's case) 'x' pounds for every 'so many' games he played.

In Myhre's case we had to pay about £250k(?) to his old club for every 'x' number of games he played. So, when he was approaching playing the agreed number of games he, too, was farmed out 'on loan' until we had the money to have him back so he could play for us and we could pay his old club.

Ruddy's only game (I was there) was also by fluke, as a very early sub against Blackburn because Iain Turner (3rd choice) was sent off for handling outside the area and he was only playing because Martyn & Gerrard were injured. So Moyes put Ruddy in, he played a blinder when he had to, we won 1-0 and Ruddy was never seen again because we didn't have the money for the clause in his contract which said we have to pay Cambridge, as well as him, when he plays.

I think a lot of clubs arrange contracts like this - it's just that we've never had the money to fulfill them, as others do, and sadly we don't get the benefit of seeing what, in Ruddy's case, have been some very fine performances.

I remember seeing it reported before that the clause has this time limit in each window so we don't get left scrambling for a replacement at the end of the window. Very wise.

I wonder if the actual trigger amount of the fee decreases slightly in each window as the time remaining on his contract decreases?

In any case, if he's going I hope it gets sorted soon so RM can get moving on replacements. Shame that it seems only Arsenal might be interested at present as Wenger seems to be a bit of a ditherer.
