Martinez has an advanced degree in business, right? One of the attributes of a leader is to set a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) so everyone on your team strives towards that goal. JF Kennedy did it by stating that men would walk on the moon within ten years, something that many just laughed and scoffed at. But, once the goal was set, everyone knew it and worked towards it, and the goal was met. Playing Champions League football is now the BHAG for Everton. Everything that's done, from style of play to transfer strategy to team selections, will be in support of that goal. Without such a clear target, games are just games. With this target, there's always something to reach for, and it drives teams to improve and work together.

I just read the thread and i'm sorry but you come across as being totally unreasonable, in other words 'being a bit of a dick'. We all do it sometimes and all we can do is put our hands up and admit it, instead of getting nasty.

Hahaha who the fuck am I?! That made me laugh. I'm the same as everyone else on here, an Everton fan who wants to discuss Everton without getting abuse or reading other people needlessly giving out childish abuse.

I've said this before but the motto of this website is 'for the thinking Evertonian'. You don't think with your fists mate.

Blueboy122 - I'm far too old to hold grudges with guys on here, and will have forgotten about your comments by the time I've finished my afternoon cup of tea, so why not consider cooling down a little, and let what happens happen, before the stresses of the occasion spoil the enjoyment of the forum for everybody? Everybody is concerned about the same thing, and everybody wants the best for the club.

The more I think about Martinez being in charge of football matters, the happier I am. In fact i'm ecstatic, he is a footballing man, he knows the game, he's got bottle and he instills a culture in his clubs.

He has some similarities with Moyes, studious, hard working, analytical and thorough, however I believe he leaves Moyes standing in one department - tactics. He is flexible, reacts promptly, has more than one plan.

I was further intrigued by the calibre of player he can attract and what he got rid of to sustain Wigans ability to operate and no go into admin.

Here's some player salaries wigan got rid of:-

£40k+ bracket: - King, Heskey, Bramble, Scharner, NZogbia
£30k bracket:- Melchiot, Kirkland, Koumas, Kapo, Mido, Brown, Palacios, Valencia,
£25k bracket:- De Ridder, Cattermole, Sibierski, Camara

At present their top earners are:-

    £25k Al Habsi
£15-20k Boyce, Alcaraz, Figueroa, McCarthy, McArthur, Caldwell,
all the rest are on under £15k a week averaging approx £11k a week.

In all seriousness anyone who choses to ignore those stats and say "Martinez got Wigan relegated yadda yadda yadda" needs to have a word with themselves. Fellaini and Heitinga earn the same as 6-7 of their top paid players.

And yet when we have played Wigan, they've certainly not looked like a budget sunday league team. I think Martinez is licking his lips at the prospect of working with the likes of Osman, Barkley, Baines, Pienaar, Mirrallas, Gibson, Heitinga, - all technical players who pass the ball well and would fit the bill as the type of player he likes in his style of play.

    exciting times...

Harry Redknapp made a good coment, he said he wasn't a tactical genius - he got the best players he could get and the better the players, the better the team could play. Get the best players out there, motivate them and they play well. Let them worry about playing and they will often do a good job.

Martinez has had possibly the worst defenders (with injuries etc) for the latter part of the season. You can't get a defence to perform well if you have no good defenders fit. You can't get good defenders if you don't pay 'good defenders wages'. Martinez will inherit international class £50k a week defenders at Goodison, he won't be stuck with Wigan squad players on £10k a week. Big difference.

Martinez I believe is a mixture of all the best qualities you want in a a manager. He is tactically astute, is bold and attack minded, lets his players play with no fear, holds himself accountable for his team, has an eye for a player and brings out the best in them.

I really do think that the future will be bright under Martinez. We won't be getting the last 5 minutes of MOTD, we will be attracting admiring glances from the footballing world, will this even put us in the spotlight for investors??? Certainly attacking, pressing football will help.

It could be worse, 32 year olds could be signing extensions at a time when we don't have an active manager..oh.*

*I'm find with Hitzelsperger signing an extension, providing he's in the new manager's plans. I don't understand why Osman was allowed to sign one when his contract doesn't expire 'til next year and the new manager could have made a decision based on whether Osman still has something to offer.

My haf style description of the current manager status:

Moyes inherited and old scrapyard when he came to EFC, it contained a few good relics like Ginola and Gascoigne, but nothing worth saving. Slowly over the years he has taken his JCB to the site and rid the place of it's crap and built the foundations and brickwork to a nice big house, and all this under the watchful eye of councilor Kenwright in the planning department who promised swimming pools and tennis courts. However Moyes has now been offered the chance to help build and live in a castle so has left us with an unpainted house. We need someone to paint and decorate that house so we can sell it for maximum profit, we don't need one of builders trying to paint the house. We need a decorator to finish the job.

    Pulis and Neville double act...

"Right lads, I'm the gaffer and Nev is my number 2, he's gonna take training. He epitomises everything I like my teams to do, he takes a long throw and hoofs the ball up from the back, any questions?"

Ability is one thing. Belief is another. We now have enough players with ability to lose our 'punches above their weight' label. The biggest job our new manager faces is to get our players believing it and to stop thinking like underdogs. We need to take some more belief, confidence and even arrogance out on the pitch. I'm fed up of being thought of asthe nice club who just can't quite crack the top four. Next season needs to see a new attitude as well as a new manager.

Moyes has always said we don't sell cheap, so he'll know he can't come back with low ball offers if he wants anyone. Personally I'd be surprised if he comes in for any of our players.

For me I would take Benitez but after Laudrup and Martinez. The next manager will have to deal with high levels of expectation from day one. That is not something that Laudrup orMartinez have had to deal with yet. Not saying either of them couldn't deal with it but Benitez has taken it in his stride, and with great dignity, at Chelsea.

I would prefer Martinez or Laudrup but would be ok with Benitez. Now is not the time to promote from within. Ournewmanager has to reflect our status as a top 6 club with serious and credible ambitions to break into the top two or three.

I was afraid it might make us look small time today but it was in fact the complete opposite, I'm glad to admit I was wrong. Moyes couldn't have been more professional, the team reminded us all that there is a lot to look forward too with the quality we have in the squad, and what a brilliant atmosphere. Everything was absolute class - that's just how Everton do things. Proud to be an Evertonian!

I think he deserves a very warm send off. Eleven years in today's football climate is a great effort. You have to take into account the poor finances he had available and he has left us in a much better position. If it was more than 2 games then I'd agree that he should step aside but our position of 6th is almost confirmed regardless of the next two results. I for one will be giving him the accolade he deserves tomorrow. Thanks Mr Moyes and for me I hope Martinez is his replacement.

    I'm gutted. I'm excited. I'm sad. I'm happy.

As its been said, highest plaudits deserved for turning our great club around and bringing us closer to where we should be. He's walking into the hardest job in football. Not only are they one of the biggest clubs in football (if not THE biggest) but he's following in the footsteps of arguably the most acclaimed mangers to ever grace football as a sport. For that, best of luck. For what has been, thank you.

efc1111 reacted to Avinalaff in David Moyes - sign or go ?
I don't think it's a kneejerk reaction or indeed fickleness to be fair, at least regarding my own opinion, as I've always been a Moyes loyal fan, but I am unhappy with his current attitude, and as a result he is gradually losing my confidence and support.

1: Public display of a lack of commitment regarding his contract
    2: Smug interviews and responses
3: Same team, same tactics, same outcome
4: Bad handling of the transfer window
5: This is Everton Football Club. Either bite the clubs hand off to get a new contract, or resign, and let another attempt to rescue the season

I look at our situation and I see things being taken for granted, and not enough enthusiasm from the manager. If it were a relationship I would be more than a bit paranoid and uncomfortable about things.

"I'm not sure I love you anymore. I'll see how I feel at the end of the year".

How about I make your mind up for you darling Davey ? The door is that way. Do one.
