We need to see an improvement in the next 9 games too.

I'm an open fan of Martinez and what he says about football etc...but he is on trial now. No doubt about it.

They need to pick themselves up.

    No more excuses.

It's all eyes on the league from now on.

I think QPR will get a hiding from a pissed off Everton team who thought they'd finally cracked it only to revert back to idiotic defending. They should be very pissed off and up for this game.

Well that's your view. So fair enough.

At the end of it all, we can't look to blame him for every goal we concede. Credible posters ruin themselves when blinded by pure dislike of a certain player. All 'ifs and buts'. It's a shame really.

Barkley got blocked? That bit was clever too. And the finish wasn't very easy. At the point of contact, the bloke is on the edge of our 6 yard box, about 2 yards in front of the near post. Really smart finish I thought.

I think pro footballers need to show a thick skin. More so now than ever.

I often wonder how us fans would react at work if we found ourselves berated by 30,000 people? I don't think many could even handle walking into their place of work and having, say, 5 colleagues call them 'shit', 'useless', 'your kids not yours', 'your wife's a slag'...etc etc. Most would probably file a complaint in search of compensation or call the union.

At the moment, with this below par season, there is not a lot these guys can say that is 'right'. To be honest, I'm not arsed what answer they give to journo's, like us all I just want some meaningful league performances and wins.

    Awesome 2nd half performance.

We can do it...fuck knows why we don't do it more often. That was the Everton of last season. It ain't been coached out of them. It needs, it has to, happen more.

Could have done with another goal. That away goal is important to Kiev.

Now to recover. Get ready for Newcastle. If we don't play that game at high tempo, I'll be pissed.

This is the Everton we've missed!

    Attacking with pace, urgency, constantly!

Full backs pushing high up. Barry dropping back in. Centre backs splitting. Loads of energy and power.

Some over the top stuff getting said these days. Suppose that's human nature when shit is hitting the fan.

I still back him. But even I'm annoyed at certain things and can't see logic behind some of it (2 examples that stick in my mind is the dropping of Robles and the insistence on one wide player). I'm even slightly annoyed with some of the positive talk, although I get that he is speaking to journo's and not to us. There's other niggles I have too.

But my backing for him comes from him being a very young manager at 41 with plenty still to learn. I really really really want him to learn from this season. Because his philosophy on football, culture, how a club should be...It all makes sense. And if it all comes to fruition, it will set the club up brilliantly.

But he needs to be clear with himself how to translate those wise words into action. Needs to be honest with himself that he doesn't know it all. That it's ok to adjust the plan if something doesn't work. That the best managers/leaders quite happily admit when they get something wrong. Anybody can talk a good game, read the forum for plenty of examples, but doing something with it takes that extra 'something'.

Honestly, I really hope he has that extra 'something'. Haven't seen it for the most of this season, but hopefully that's part of the learning curve.

But I thought the effect of a new manager doesn't happen until 12 months later?

I'm sure I've read that somewhere.....

The thing that is really bugging me is that pre - Everton, Martinez had a sound reputation in football for his knowledge and style of play.

He was widely lauded at Swansea. He was lauded at Wigan.

At both clubs, his style of play was not what we are seeing this season.

Last season was sublime. I know his critics give credit for that season to Moyes. But are we really saying that a man with so much footballing knowledge has taken our performances from last season, and our achievements, and 'coached' them out of the team? Basically told them he doesn't want it doing that way?

This slow tempo is not how I envisage Martinez wanting us to play. It doesn't make sense.

This is a rough season. Horrible season. I'm not sure what's going on. It's bemusing.

But I think Martinez has more to give this club yet. So, for me, he is still the man.

But if I was the Chairman, I'd be asking some real deep diving questions. Like, be honest Roberto, what the fuck is going on? What's the idea of one natural wide man? Why are we playing so narrow? Why the slow tempo? What's the plans for pre season?!!! And the rest!!!

Newty82 got a reaction from Matt in Relegation Battle!
I was confident we'd put a run together. No shame in admitting it. It's what I thought. It was my opinion. No one really knows the future do they? No one really see's it coming? If we could, we'd be millionaires. I also said I would look at it at around game 28-30...because that's when I always do for all things in the league...title, Europe and Relegation.

I don't regret saying any of it, because it's what I truly believed. I'm left feeling really disappointed. Not because I was wrong, I can handle that, but because it just has not happened. To be 11 points off 10th is awful.

Am i at the point where i fear relegation? No. But I am at the point of 'looking over my shoulder' and thinking that this long run if poor substandard form cannot carry on until the end if the season. We need a run of results.
