craigb
I get the feeling he was refering to Portsmouth Portsmouth are no longer the threat they were when we last faced them , and we are playing much better now than then also . I predict 3-0 also . Just not saying who for yeah i was referring to portsmouth haha

The Beard
I can see this being a scrappy affair, hope they have had some fight knocked out of them after conceding so late at Boro. If we play to our strengths then three points should be accrued and The shite can do us a favour on Sunday, id rather we did it ourselves but as they keep reminding us "Every little helps". By the way its a 5.30am start up here on Saturday, think about that, those who enjoy the early kick offs
Jesse11
Glaring and Error are David James' middle names Jamie. I'm confident....which is a bit strange, because I usually like to opt for pessimism . Worrying. So you are worried because you aren't as worried as you usually are. Poor man. MikeO
Fascinating and well researched item from the BBC... If selected:- YAKUBU will be facing a former club. The 26 year old Nigeria international forward made 92 appearances (81 in the league) and scored 42 goals (35 league) between January 2003 and July 2005. dark
David James believes some of his Portsmouth team-mates are playing for moves away from the club, rather than focusing on their survival battle. Pompey go into the weekend fixtures in 17th, ahead of the Premier League relegation zone only on goal difference. James told Setanta Sports News: "You have to look at the personnel - not ability-wise, but the agenda of any individual in the side. "Come the end of May, when the season finishes, there's a fair few of our team who will no longer be Portsmouth players.'' >Read On< All of those thoughts can't be helping the spirit around Fratton. This game is for the taking.

The 26 year old Nigeria international forward made 92 appearances (81 in the league) and scored 42 goals (35 league) between January 2003 and July 2005. Good news that, players always seem to do well against there former clubs. Yakubu needs to get his finger out, hasn't scored in months now Howard, Jacobsen, Jagielka, Lescott, Baines, Osman, Fellaini, Neville, Pienaar, Saha, Jo.Subs: Nash, Castillo, Rodwell, Gosling, Agard, Baxter, Wallace. Jacobsen début and TC out . Good to see that Lars is making a debut, now we will know if it was the right thing to do bringing him to Goodison and from this 90 minutes we can make accurate judgement on whether he is good enough for the club. Having Jagielka at centre back breeds confidence as Lescott & Baines keep the good form going and protect Tim at the back. Those England callups will surely have an effect on their performance today. Osman and Fellaini need to boss the midfield with Cahill being out and Neville should just stick to what he has been doing all season - consistent leadership that will allow us to play good football and see the game off. Having two strikers only adds to the confidence of three points. Saha's goalscoring form has been superb for us of late and this can only rub off on Jo. 3-0 (1-0HT) Saha, Baines, Osman

dark
BAINES! From a third minute free-kick, about five men in the Portsmouth wall Leighton hooped the ball to David James' near post. Questions need to be asked over the goalkeeper to be honest, he might have seen it late because there was no movement from the man. It's Baines' first goal for the club and its fully deserved and it looks as if its wrecked Pompey's confidence. Keep pressing and looking for more goals, there bound to come. dark
Just had a corner that looked promising, the only trouble was that no-one made an attempt in the box to direct it towards goal allowing David James to come out and collect. We are still looking the better team and could well get a few more goals from this. Pienaar was down injured for a few minutes but he seems to have the all clear now, nothing to worry about. Keep this up and three points are coming back up the country. Looking comfortable at the back too, a ball hoofed up to Peter Crouch has just been successfully (and calmly) shielded out by Joleon Lescott. With the form that Jags & Lescott have shown in the opening 20 minutes its going to be a hard day for Crouch and Nugent. Baines looking good on the left and Lars not really making an impact as of yet. Edited March 21, 2009 by dark
dark
Pompey are level against the run of play and it's Crouch with a powering header. Great determination by the England forward to win the ball and head past Tim Howard from close range. A cross to the far side looked to be cleared easily had Lars seen it coming, he seemed to be just a few yards out position which meant the ball could be headed towards goal. Peter Crouch with a free header from right in front of Howard made no mistake in levelling it all up. We now seem a little shaky from the goal and need to get back into the momentum we had before the game. We should beat Portsmouth because they haven't looked that threatening, its just how much this goal will affect the two teams. A different game now. Portsmouth were wrongly awarded a corner in the build up to the goal which will always be of annoyance, but I guess thats football.
