Wall Writer
For a bit of fun, with our (slightly) refreshed squad, and if all players were fit, what would be our best line up. Here's mine. ------ Howard ------- Neville --- Jags --- Distin --- Baines Coleman --- Felli --- Barkley --- Drenthe ----- Bily ----- ---- Saha ---- Subs from: Mucha, Hibbo, Yobo, Barkley, Rodwell, Stracquilursi, Cahill, Osman, Gueye, Vellios, Anichebe, Baxter, Wallace, McAleny, Forsahw, Silva, Duffy From the looks of it, we've got quite a bit of competition in the middle of the park, with Heitinga, Cahill, Ossie and Rodders all able to fit in. We do look weak in forward striking areas, though.

Hafnia
I said before this transfer window we were 3 injuries away from a bottom half team, at that time you knew what you would get from arteta, beckford and Yak (when fit) Take away the likes of Barkley, Rodwell due to age and needing rest etc (now coleman) and you are left with an incredibly fragile squad. Royston clearly is a gamble based on temperament, and Denis if he doesnt adapt would leave Saha as the striker with any hope of scoring goals... Really I am very worried, I can see Fellaini going in January, Arteta has given him and his Dad the "lacking ambition" dear john letter they need. Would you sign if you were him? Cahill is a lost soul without Arteta, I expect him to up sticks and join the likes of Emmerton in Oz within a year

EFC-Paul
I would like to see baring in mind I'm putting faith in that the two new lads settle in and in Denis's case is decent. I'd also like to use Gueye I know he hasn't had much time but from the glimpses I've seen he looks like he has the tools to do the job and with Drenthe down the other flank we would have pace on both side's I still think Bily could do well if he's given time and played in his proper position behind the front man. ----------------------------Howard Coleman------Jags-------------------Distin-------Baines ----------------------------Fellaini Gueye-------------------Barkley------------------Drenthe -----------------------Saha -----------------------------------Denis Or -----------------------------Howard Coleman-------------Jags-------Distin----------------Baines Gueye----------Barkely-------------Fellaini----------Drenthe -------------------------------Bily ----------------------------------Saha/Denis Edited September 1, 2011 by EFC-Paul

Lowensda
Howard Neville - Heitinga - Distin - Baines Fellaini - Rodwell Drenthe - Osman - Barkley Saha Allows our sided players to cut in and crowd the area outside the box. Will stop Saha from coming away from his line, and allows the guys to find Saha through passes from inside. It also creates shooting opportunities for the guys cutting in off their stronger foots. Against weaker teams i'd like to think we'd go something like this: Howard Neville - Heitinga - Distin - Baines Fellaini Drenthe - Osman - Barkley - Bily Denis Bily providing deeper crossing opportunities on his good foot, with Baines still occupying the spaces ahead and behind him. Denis getting the nod to run at defenders but also to be there, for the bonbardment of crosses that could arise. When Coleman's back i'd like to see an attacking three and a central three (4-3-3) and have Barkley and Osman (or Rodwell depending who's fit) to join the attacks when needed and run from deep to meet the crosses. Howard Neville - Heitinga - Distin - Baines Osman/Rodwell - Fellaini - Barkley Coleman - Saha/Denis - Drenthe But that all depends on when/if they're all fit. Subs inc: Mucha, Jags, Cahill, Anichebe, Gueye, Vellios (and whoever needs to fill from the above)
Lowensda
Stole this from Executionersbong, player importance last season, interesting reading IMO. And it just emphasises why Cahill is a great 'super sub'
BoroBlue
I hope Moyes was watching the England game last night, for me that was the best England have played in years and it was down to 2 simple things. The first thing is that we played a system that works and that suits the England team very well, the second is that no-one was playing out of positon which gave the team a good balance and fluidity to there play. England, like Everton for as long as I remember seem to have picked there best 11 players and tried to form a team out of them by playing people out of position rather than picking a formation, picking the players that fit into that formation and playing players in there favoured positions. The 4-2-3-1 formation used by England last night suits them perfectly, as it suits Everton perfectly. Our squads main strengths are the attacking full backs and the centre midfielders while out main weeknesses are lack of width in the midfield and lack of options upfront. This formation plays to our strengths as the fullbacks provide the width, the 2 holding midfielders provide defensive cover for the full backs, the remaining 3 midfield slots are allowed more of a licence to attack which puts less pressure on the lone forward to provide the goals. Using this formation I would like to see us play the following team: Howard Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines Felliani Rodwell Osman Barkley Bilyaletdinov Saha Just a few things I would mention looking at this line up. The fitness level and attacking ability of the fullbacks would cause problems for anyteam in the prem and would put the opposition on the backfoot (the old attack is the best form of defence cliche) while having 2 holding midfielders provide enough cover to prevent us getting exposed on the counter. If Rodwell gets a good run of games playing alongside Fellini I feel those 2 could control games for us in the middle. This formation would bring out the best in Osman and Bilyaletdinov as it gives them less defensive responsibility and allows them to cut in or interchange with each other and Barkley throughout the game. Your thoughts please? Are there any strengths of this formation I have not mentioned? Are there any weaknesses of this formation I have not mentioned? Which of our players do you feel this would suit the best? What formation do you think would work better than this?
EFC-Paul
I would say Boro regarding players playing in their real position's is that Bily is best deployed behind the front man as seen for Russia he was the man that made most of Arshavin's goals and attacking play. I wouldn't play Rodwell and Mo in a defensive mid role you only need one in that position Moyes is negative enough and this would just add to it, I think if we used Gueye and Drenthe they would both cause team's problems down each flank plus with Baines and Coleman we would have some real fire out wide for a change. It will be interesting to see what happens now we have lost one player Moyes has put a team sheet around out, I just hope he becomes more attack minded and uses the obvious quality we have in some of our younger players.
