I'm grateful for this thread because I have a habit of forgetting to play, so my streak ends. Here's the latest for me...

What you need to do in those circumstances is what I did today; on the fourth attempt forget the letters you have and put in a word that contains three/four of the possibles, then you should get a clearer idea on what the answer is/could be.

They’ve been using words no one uses anymore lately:

Was a avid crossword fan for a lot of years so my word knowledge is pretty good, although caulk was a new one on me a while back.

I know caulk just because my father is sort of a “handyman” by profession. It is by no means a common word at all, unless you spend a lot of time in Lowes/Home Depot.

I did actually use it once (built a kitchen), but I didn't know what it was called....or maybe I did and I forgot.

Since the NYT purchased the rights to this game, they've included several words with a repeated letter.

absolutely I have a couple of words I like to use that are strategic if one isnt good go with the other as a marker.

Lots of Wordlers think "scare" is a good word to start with, I use  "Wedge or Stamp" as my starters.

Another good one is Nudge. 👍

I use "aline" (stolen from Richard Osman), uses the three most common vowels; though on reflection maybe "atire" would be better as that contains the two most used consonants as well.
